I am a doctoral student in Ethics at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies. The aim of my PhD project is to understand how faith-based refugee relief and care relate and contribute to the justice and ethics of forced migration in Europe. It does so by highlighting and assessing the role of Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) in conserving and (re)constructing infrastructures of care at Europe’s (external) borders, with a specific focus on East Mediterranean border spaces.
The practical and ideological disclosures, denotations, and significance of faith-based care and religion in European border spaces will be approached through a philosophical ethic of care. In doing so, the project shows the potential of care ethical theory to offer alternative moral considerations to the multi-disciplinary debate about the ethics of refugee relief and persisting issues of global justice in the European forced migration context.
