Childhood overweight and obesity conceived by Child Health Care nurses: a qualitative study.

Background: Registered Sick Children's Nurses and District Nurses employed at Child Health Care centres are in a position to help prevent childhood overweight and obesity. Prevention of this challenging public health threat could be improved through having a better understanding of how this group of nurses perceives childhood obesity. The aim of this study was to elucidate the conceptions of child

Sensitivity of the carbon cycle in the Arctic to climate change

The recent warming in the Arctic is affecting a broad spectrum of physical, ecological, and human/cultural systems that may be irreversible on century time scales and have the potential to cause rapid changes in the earth system. The response of the carbon cycle of the Arctic to changes in climate is a major issue of global concern, yet there has not been a comprehensive review of the status of th

Morphometric Differences between the Medial and Lateral Meniscus in Healthy Men - A Three-Dimensional Analysis Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The objective of this work was to characterize tibial plateau coverage and morphometric differences of the medial (MM) and lateral meniscus (LM) in a male reference cohort using three-dimensional imaging. Coronal multiplanar reconstructions of a sagittal double-echo steady state with water excitation magnetic resonance sequence (slice thickness: 1.5 mm, and in-plane resolution: 0.37 x 0.70 mm) wer

Spin-polarized (001) surface states of the topological crystalline insulator Pb0.73Sn0.27Se

We study the nature of (001) surface states in Pb0.73Sn0.27Se in the newly discovered topological-crystalline-insulator (TCI) phase as well as the corresponding topologically trivial state above the band-gap-inversion temperature. Our calculations predict not only metallic surface states with a nontrivial chiral spin structure for the TCI case, but also nonmetallic (gapped) surface states with non

Data-Rich Multivariable Control of Heavy-Duty Engines

Popular Abstract in Swedish See attachment in related materialThe combustion engine is today the dominant technology for transportation of goods and people world-wide. Concerns for global warming, toxic exhaust emissions, as well as cost and availability of fuel have in recent years created incentives for technological evolution of combustion engines. More sophisticated engine instrumentation with additional degrees of freedom has been added to the engine de

Prosocial norms in the classroom: The role of self-regulation in following norms of giving

Children who are prosocial in elementary school tend to have higher academic achievement and experience greater acceptance by their peers in adolescence. Despite this positive influence on educational outcomes, it is still unclear why some children are more prosocial than others in school. The current study investigates a possible link between following a prosocial norm and self-regulation. We tes

Volatility of Organic Aerosol: Evaporation of Ammonium Sulfate/Succinic Acid Aqueous Solution Droplets

Condensation and evaporation modify the properties and effects of atmospheric aerosol particles. We studied the evaporation of aqueous succinic acid and succinic acid/ammonium sulfate droplets to obtain insights on the effect of ammonium sulfate on the gas/particle partitioning of atmospheric organic acids. Droplet evaporation in a laminar flow tube was measured in a Tandem Differential Mobility A

The History, Development, and Realisation of Medical Radiation Physics Education in Sweden

This paper describes the history of Swedish medical radiation physics education and gives details of the core curriculum of today’s 5-year specialised medical radiation physicist programme, which fulfils the need to educate clinical physicists with versatile basic knowledge and skills who are well prepared for professional life in all sub-areas of medical radiation physics and radiation protection

Phase Behavior in Suspensions of Highly Charged Colloids.

Attractive interactions between like-charged aggregates (macromolecules, colloidal particles, or micelles) in solution due to electrostatic correlation effects are revisited. The associated phenomenon of phase separation in a colloidal solution of highly charged particles is directly observed in Monte Carlo simulations. We start with a simple, yet instructive, description of polarization effects i

Output feedback distributed model predictive control with inherent robustness properties

We consider robust output feedback distributed model predictive control (DMPC). The proposed controller is based on the results in [8] in which nominal stability and feasibility was proven for a DMPC-formulation without terminal constraint set or terminal cost in the optimization. We extend these results to show robust stability under state feedback as well as output feedback when dynamics and mea

Regression models for analyzing radiological visual grading studies - an empirical comparison.

For optimizing and evaluating image quality in medical imaging, one can use visual grading experiments, where observers rate some aspect of image quality on an ordinal scale. To analyze the grading data, several regression methods are available, and this study aimed at empirically comparing such techniques, in particular when including random effects in the models, which is appropriate for observe

Linking Normlessness and Value Change in the Post-Communist World

The apparent realities of the communist dystopia lead to specific expectations from the transition to capitalism: the replacement of communism should cause not only a boon in human happiness, but also a resurgence of social life. Two types of observations in the past 20 years challenge these expectations. First, people from former-communist countries are often nostalgic and pessimistic when discus

Den konstnärliga verksamheten tas metodiskt i anspråTitle: The Twofold Rhythm of Duration in Opera. The Musical Dramaturgy of the Car Radio Opera "Cleansing of the Soul through Fun and Games". This thesis focuses on musical dramaturgy in operas with a story. I believe my own music is better when I write operas than instrumental music. The question is why? The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between story and music and see how

Monte Carlo simulation of two interpenetrating polymer networks: Structure, swelling, and mechanical properties

The swelling and mechanical properties of various interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were studied. Six networks made from permutations of a moderately crosslinked polyelectrolyte network (ref), a moderately crosslinked neutral polymer network (net1), and a highly crosslinked polyelectrolyte network (net2) were first swollen in water and structural properties such as end-to-end chain lengths

Cyclometallated phenyl-pyridine palladium species. Monomeric complex formation with potentially bridging ligands

The cyclometallated dinuclear (2-phenyl-pyridine) palladium acetate and chloride [{PdCl(phpy)}(2)] and [{PdOAc(phpy)}(2)] were reacted with potentially bridging N- and S-donor ligands. The N,N-ligands bind with only one nitrogen and form monomeric products. The S,S-ligand binds in a chelate mode, also forming a monomeric complex. 3,3-Dimethyl glutarate, on the other hand, binds in a bridging mode.
