Gender-based career differences among young auditors in Sweden
Purpose– The purpose of this study is to examine whether or not gender‐related differences affect the likelihood of promotion.Design/methodology/approach– The research is done on a unique dataset on the Swedish audit industry, an industry with a well‐defined and well‐known career ladder. We apply an ordered probit model to take all steps in the career ladder into consideration simultaneously.Findi
Sarmatia-Volgo-Uralia junction zone: Isotopic-geochronologic characteristic of supracrustal rocks and granitoids
The geochronologic (U-Pb isotopic system of zircons) and isotopic-geochemical (Sm-Nd isotopic system of the bulk rock) studies were performed along the profile extending from the eastern Sarmatia (in the west) to the Middle Volga megablock of Volgo-Uralia (in the east), i.e., across the entire junction zone for dating the integration of Sarmatia and Volgo-Uralia, representing two segments of the E
Evolutionary responses to environmental changes: How does competition affect adaptation?
The role and importance of ecological interactions for evolutionary responses to environmental changes is to large extent unknown. Here it is shown that interspecific competition may slow down rates of adaptation substantially and fundamentally change patterns of adaptation to long-term environmental changes. In the model investigated here, species compete for resources distributed along an ecolog
Inhomogeneous Quenching as a Limit of the Correlation Between Fluorescence Polarization and Conformation of Single Molecules
The photophysical properties of conjugated polymers (CPs) largely depend on the interactions between the CP and its environment. We present a study of two polymers with identical conjugated backbones, bare and insulated, that showed different fluorescence excitation modulation depth histograms. However, the polarization differences are not related to differences in conformation, as commonly believ
Carrier motion in as-spun and annealed P3HT:PCBM blends revealed by ultrafast optical electric field probing and Monte Carlo simulations
Charge transport dynamics in solar cell devices based on as-spun and annealed P3HT:PCBM films are compared using ultrafast time-resolved optical probing of the electric field by means of field-induced second harmonic generation. The results show that charge carriers drift about twice as far during the first 3 ns after photogeneration in a device where the active layer has been thermally annealed.
Governing Decarbonisation : The State and the New Politics of Climate Change
Popular Abstract in English The new climate politics of decarbonisation address the prospects for moving society away from its current dependence on fossil carbon energy. In this compilation dissertation, Hildingsson explores the role of the state as a critical site for progressive climate action, and examines its capacity to govern decarbonisation by transforming systems, structures and practicesThis dissertation examines the “new climate politics of decarbonisation” and the role of the state as a site for progressive climate action. This new politics concerns transformative social change aimed at moving society away from its current dependence on fossil carbon energy. A transition to low-carbon societal development hinges on restructuring and decarbonising those key systems, structures a
Frequency, Genotype, and Clinical Spectrum of Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy: Data From a National Center in Denmark
PURPOSE: To estimate the prevalence, genotype, and clinical spectrum of Best vitelliform macular dystrophy (Best disease). DESIGN: Retrospective epidemiologic and clinical and molecular genetic observational study. METHODS: SETTING: National referral center. PARTICIPANTS: Forty-five individuals diagnosed with Best disease. OBSERVATION PROCEDURES: Retrospective review of patients diagnosed accordin
Differential neutrophil responses to bacterial stimuli: Streptococcal strains are potent inducers of heparin-binding protein and resistin-release.
Neutrophils are critical for the control of bacterial infections, but they may also contribute to disease pathology. Here we explore neutrophil responses, in particular the release of sepsis-associated factors heparin-binding protein (HBP) and resistin in relation to specific bacterial stimuli and sepsis of varying aetiology. Analyses of HBP and resistin in plasma of septic patients revealed eleva
Är det i ljuset av den judisk-kristna dialogen dags att ompröva begreppsparet ‘lag och evangelium’?
Originally a paper read at a Nordic conference at Sigtunastiftelsen, Sweden, this article surveys the implications of the current and vibrant Jewish-Christian dialogue for the Law and Gospel dichotomy that has governed Lutheran theology.
Effects of the sampling design and selection of parameter values on pollen-based quantitative reconstructions of regional vegetation: a case study in southern Sweden using the REVEALS model
The need for quantification of land cover from pollen data has led to the development of a Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm (LRA). The LRA includes several models of which the REVEALS model estimates regional vegetation abundance using pollen assemblages from large sites (lakes or bogs). In this paper we explore the effects of selection and number of pollen samples, and choice of pollen producti
Optimal realizations of passive structures
This paper presents a convex optimization approach to study optimal realizations of passive electromagnetic structures. The optimization approach complements recently developed theory and techniques to derive sum rules and physical limitations for passive systems operating over a given bandwidth. The sum rules are based solely on the analytical properties of the corresponding Herglotz functions. H
Regional aesthetics : Locating Swedish media
Abstract in Undetermined Regional Aesthetics: Locating Swedish Media maps more than two hundred years of Swedish media. It ranges from written travelogues in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries via feature films, documentaries, TV programmes, literature and press to contemporary video activism on the Internet. The nineteen contributors navigate the reader through a variety of media landscapes
Detecting the Vulnerable Plaque
Om placket som brister sitter i kärlen som förser hjärtat eller hjärnan med blod kaMyocardial infarction and stroke, mainly caused by a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque, are two of the most common causes of mortality and morbidity in the world. Previous studies have pointed out inflammation, driven by inflammatory lipids, as the keystone in the formation of the rupture prone vulnerable plaque. The risk for a plaque rupture is greatly enhanced in the diabetic population and i

Are DC Currents in an AC Power Distribution the Root Cause for some Abnormalities in AU?
Abnormalities within a limited number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Australia are reported. A set of interrelated industrial issues are brought out in order to advance the state of knowledge and avoid similar abnormalities / irregularities and to bring back some ideas for the mitigations. Impacts on new automated systems and on industrial as well as safety standards are expected in the
Benchmark simulation models, quo vadis?
As the work of the IWA Task Group on Benchmarking of Control Strategies for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is coming to an end, it is essential to disseminate the knowledge gained. For this reason, all authors of the IWA Scientific and Technical Report on benchmarking have come together to provide their insights, highlighting areas where knowledge may still be deficient and where new opportun
Modeling of anaerobic digestion with a focus on estimation of hydrolysis constants at 35, 55, and 60°C
Hydrolysis constants of mixed sludge at 35°C, 55°C, and 60°C were found to be 0.32 d-1, 0.44 d-1, and 0.50 d-1, respectively in pilot-scale semi-continuously operated anaerobic digesters. The hydrolysis constants as well as estimated chemical oxygen demand (COD) fractions in the feed were introduced to a mathematical model for anaerobic digestion published by Siegrist et al. (2002) which is simila
