Islam and Nationalism (Book Series)

One of the main objectives of this series is to explore the relationship between Islam, nationalism and citizenship in its diverse expressions. The series intends to provide a space for approaches that recognize the potential of Islam to permeate and inspire national forms of identification, and systems of government as well as its capacity to inspire oppositional politics, alternative modes of be

Offshore Insourcing: A Case Study on Software Quality Alignment

Background: Software quality issues are commonly reported when off shoring software development. Value-based software engineering addresses this by ensuring key stakeholders have a common understanding of quality. Aim: This work seeks to understand the levels of alignment between key stakeholders on aspects of software quality for two products developed as part of an offshore in sourcing arrangeme

Time Domain Cluster PDF and Its Application in Geometry-Based Statistical Channel Models

This paper presents an approach to derivate the Time of Arrival (TOA) power density function (PDF) and its application in geometry-based statistical channel models for urban environments. The cluster PDF derived can be used to simulate temporal dispersion of the multipath signal grouped in clusters in a variety of urban propagation conditions to quantify second order statistics, i.e., delay spread

Transient Control of Combustion Phasing and Lambda in a 6-Cylinder Port-Injected Natural-gas Engine

Fuel economy and emissions are the two central parameters in heavy duty engines. High EGR rates combined with turbocharging has been identified as a promising way to increase the maximum load and efficiency of heavy duty spark ignition engines. With stoichiometric conditions a three way catalyst can be used which keeps the regulated emissions at very low levels. The Lambda window which results in

Sweden and Holland – two drug policy models

It is a well known fact that since the 1960s, Sweden and Holland have developed completely different types of drug policy. But there are a number of misconceptions as to what the differences consist in and how they have arisen. My contribution to this anthology involves elucidating these differences. In the context of international discussions of drug policy, the policies followed by Sweden and Ho

Converting texts of road accidents into 3D scenes

This paper describes a system to create animated 3D scenes of car accidents from reports written in Swedish. The system has been developed using news reports of varying size and complexity. The text-to-scene conversion process consists of two stages. An information extraction module creates a tabular description of the accident and a visual simulator generates and animates the scene.

Detectability of pathological lesions in lumbar spine radiography

Thirty images with added simulated pathological lesions at two different dose levels (100% and 10% dose) were evaluated with the free-response forced error experiment by nine experienced radiologists. The simulated pathological lesions present in the images were classified according to four different parameters: the position within the lumbar spine, possibility to perform a symmetrical (left-right

A Small Region in a Global World. Patterns in Scandinavian Film and TV Culture

In this report we have analysed the Scandinavian film and television culture focusing on films released between 2002-2006, using data drawn from both cinemas in Scandinavia and in the rest of Europe, as well as films shown on television in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The study involves a comparative look at the support mechanisms and the production sector as well as the distribution sector, especi

The Arawakan Matrix

This chapter investigates the cultural and linguistic characteristics of the ethno-linguistic groups of the Arawakan language family, particularly relating to situations of contact and exchange. At 1492, Arawakan languages were distributed from the Greater Antilles in the north to the Gran Chaco area in the south, and from the Amazon River mouth in the east, to the eastern Andean slopes in the wes

Laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics of basal cell carcinomas of the skin following topical ALA application

Fourteen patients with superficial basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and fifteen patients with nodular BCCs were investigated by means of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) in connection with photodynamic therapy (PDT). Topical application of delta-amino levulinic acid (ALA) was performed six hours prior to the treatment session. Fluorescence spectra were recorded, using a point-monitoring system with an
