Virtual Multi-link Propagation Investigation of an Outdoor Scenario At 300 MHz

The COST 2100 channel model has introduced the concept of common clusters to model multi-link MIMO characteristics. In this paper, a ray launching tool is used to analyze multi-ink propagation properties in an outdoor scenario at 300 MHz. It is shown that in a multi-link propagation scenario there are shared scatterers among the different links, which reflects the physical existence of common clus

A Peptide of Heparin Cofactor II Inhibits Endotoxin-Mediated Shock and Invasive Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection.

Sepsis and septic shock remain important medical problems with high mortality rates. Today's treatment is based mainly on using antibiotics to target the bacteria, without addressing the systemic inflammatory response, which is a major contributor to mortality in sepsis. Therefore, novel treatment options are urgently needed to counteract these complex sepsis pathologies. Heparin cofactor II (HCII

Co-occurrence of Risk Alleles in or Near Genes Modulating Insulin Secretion Predisposes Obese Youth to Prediabetes

OBJECTIVEParalleling the rise of pediatric obesity, the prevalence of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) is increasing among youth. In this study, we asked whether the co-occurrence of risk alleles in or near five genes modulating insulin secretion (TCF7L2 rs7903146, IGF2BP2 rs4402960, CDKAL1 rs7754840, HHEX rs1111875, and HNF1A rs1169288) is associated with a higher risk o

Resistance to change: Four interpretations

Although the phenomenon of resistance to change has gained considerable attention in organization theory over the years, the meaning of the concept is rarely discussed. In this paper, a conceptual framework is suggested that distinguishes between four interpretations of resistance and builds upon the two variables of changeability and emotionality. Each interpretation is based on various assumptio

Xenotransplantation of human neural progenitor cells to the subretinal space of nonimmunosuppressed pigs.

To investigate the feasibility of transplanting human neural progenitor cells (hNPCs) to the retina of nonimmunosuppressed pigs, cultured hNPCs were injected into the subretinal space of 5 adult pigs after laser burns were applied to promote donor cell integration. Postoperatively, the retinal vessels appeared normal without signs of exudation, bleeding, or subretinal elevation. Eyes were harveste

Effects of Worksite Health Interventions Involving Reduced Work Hours and Physical Exercise on Sickness Absence Costs.

OBJECTIVE:: To investigate the effects of physical exercise during work hours (PE) and reduced work hours (RWH) on direct and indirect costs associated with sickness absence (SA). METHODS:: Sickness absence and related costs at six workplaces, matched and randomized to three conditions (PE, RWH, and referents), were retrieved from company records and/or estimated using salary conversion methods or

Collective and individualistic coping with stress at work.

In the present study, coping was viewed as both an individualistic and a collective phenomenon, and the investigation assessed how use of collective and individualistic coping strategies was related to sex of respondent and organizational level. These strategies were measured by responses to Swedish versions of the Strategic Approach to Coping Scale and the COPE Inventory. Data were collected by m

RipleyGUI: software for analyzing spatial patterns in 3D cell distributions.

The true revolution in the age of digital neuroanatomy is the ability to extensively quantify anatomical structures and thus investigate structure-function relationships in great detail. To facilitate the quantification of neuronal cell patterns we have developed RipleyGUI, a MATLAB-based software that can be used to detect patterns in the 3D distribution of cells. RipleyGUI uses Ripley's K-functi

Investigation on elemental mercury oxidation mechanism by non-thermal plasma treatment

Converting elemental mercury into divalent compound is one of the most important steps for mercury abatement from coal fired flue gas. The oxidation of elemental mercury was investigated in this paper using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) non-thermal plasma (NTP) technology at room temperature. Effects of different flue gas components like oxygen, moisture, HCl, NO and SO2 were investigated. Re

On the reliability of powder diffraction Line Profile Analysis of plastically deformed nanocrystalline systems.

An iron-molybdenum alloy powder was extensively deformed by high energy milling, so to refine the bcc iron domain size to nanometer scale (~10 nm) and introduce a strong inhomogeneous strain. Both features contribute to comparable degree to the diffraction peak profile broadening, so that size and strain contributions can be easily separated by exploiting their different dependence on the diffract

Effects of influent fractionation, kinetics, stoichiometry and mass transfer on CH4, H-2 and CO2 production for (plant-wide) modeling of anaerobic digesters

This paper examines the importance of influent fractionation, kinetic, stoichiometric and mass transfer parameter uncertainties when modeling biogas production in wastewater treatment plants. The anaerobic digestion model no. 1 implemented in the plant-wide context provided by the benchmark simulation model no. 2 is used to quantify the generation of CH4, H-2 and CO2. A comprehensive global sensit

Dietary differences between elderly Iranians living in Sweden and Iran a cross-sectional comparative study

Background: During the last decades, global migration has increased and many immigrant groups have a higher prevalence than the native born population of several cardiovascular disease risk factors, including poor dietary habits. However, it is uncertain if dietary habits in immigrant populations reflect dietary habits in their country of origin or if the current diet is a consequence of the migra

Genetic studies on components of the Wnt signalling pathway and the severity of joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis

Background Progression of joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is partly heritable; knowledge of genetic factors may increase our understanding of the mechanisms underlying joint destruction. The activity of the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway influences osteoblast differentiation. Dickkopf-1 (Dkk-1) and sclerostin (Sost) are negative regulators and lipoprotein receptor-related protein-5 (LRP-5

Search for single top-quark production via flavour-changing neutral currents at 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector.

A search for single top-quark production via flavour-changing neutral current processes from gluon plus up- or charm-quark initial states in proton-proton collisions at the LHC is presented. Data collected with the ATLAS detector in 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[Formula: see text] are used. Candidate events for a top quark decayin

Negotiating the role of sources: Educators' conceptions of credibility in participatory media

Abstract in UndeterminedParticipatory media are commonly used in today's society for a variety of purposes. The credibility associated with these media is sometimes contested, and their acceptance into school practices has been debated. Focus group interviews with teachers and librarians in upper secondary schools in Sweden are used to investigate conceptions and experiences of activities involvin

Recognition bias and the physical attractiveness stereotype.

Previous studies have found a recognition bias for information consistent with the physical attractiveness stereotype (PAS), in which participants believe that they remember that attractive individuals have positive qualities and that unattractive individuals have negative qualities, regardless of what information actually occurred. The purpose of this research was to examine whether recognition b
