DNA methylation of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP1R) in human pancreatic islets.
Insulin secretion is enhanced upon the binding of Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) to its receptor (GLP1R) in pancreatic β cells. Although a reduced expression of GLP1R in pancreatic islets from type 2 diabetic patients and hyperglycaemic rats has been established, it is still unknown if this is caused by differential DNA methylation of GLP1R in pancreatic islets of type 2 diabetic patients.
Characterization of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of High Chromium Cast Irons Using SEM and Nanoindentation
The effects of composition changes and heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of high-chromium white cast irons were studied in order to characterize possible improvements in product performance and machinability. Materials characterization was performed using nanoindentation, SEM, and EDS techniques. Present results show that changes in carbon and silicon contents as well

Natural autoantibodies to myeloperoxidase, proteinase 3, and the glomerular basement membrane are present in normal individuals
Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs) have a pathogenic role in ANCA-associated vasculitis. The origin of ANCAs and anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies, however, is unknown. In this study, we determined whether natural autoantibodies against myeloperoxidase (MPO), proteinase 3 (PR3), and GBM were present in each of 10 healthy Chinese and Swedish individuals, negative for al
Towards a tobacco-free generation. A study on the tobacco habits of adolescents: when, why and who?
För att motverka tobaksbruk krävs en kombination av åtgärder på Why adolescents are using tobacco is a large and complex issue. There are factors on society, group and individual levels that affect the youngsters. The norms and attitudes in their surrounding, as well as the tobacco habits of parents and friends, are important when it comes to affecting adolescents to start using tobacco or abstain from it. Counteracting the use of tobacco requires a combinatio
Analytical modelling of hysteresis heating in rolling contact of rubber covered rollers
In a previous paper, an approximate model for the contact between a rubber covered roller and a rigid roller was developed as analytical functional relationships connecting geometric parameters and material properties of the rubber to nip properties such as maximum contact pressure, etc. in a two-dimensional relationship. The results from that development are used in this work, with the objective
Impaired Mitochondrial Function and Insulin Resistance of Skeletal Muscle in Mitochondrial Diabetes
OBJECTIVE - Impaired muscular mitochondrial function is related to common insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. Mitochondrial diseases frequently lead to diabetes, which is mostly attributed to defective beta-cell mitochondria and secretion. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS - We assessed muscular mitochondrial function and lipid deposition in liver (hepatocellular lipids [HCLs]) and muscle (intramyoce
The reluctant rhetorician: senior managers as rhetoricians in a strategic change context
This paper explores strategic change communication, framed by the idea that managers can be viewed as rhetoricians. The purpose of this paper is to present and discuss senior managers’ subjective experiences of rhetorical aspects of change management. The paper draws on a case study from ABB Sweden (a power and automation technology company). In-depth interviews with senior managers, with vast ex
Business Ethics: A Double Bind
Introduction to special issue on Business Ethics, in the Journal of Business Anthropology. Today, business ethics can be found everywhere. But how can we define it intellectually? What does this concept include? How can we define it in explicitly anthropological terms? For the manager as well as the anthropologist, business ethics – in thoughts or in actions – involves dealing with opposing notion
Isolation and characterization of a stress responsive small GTP-binding protein AhRabG3b in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.)
Rab7 is a member of small GTP-binding protein family involved in intracellular vesicle trafficking from late endosome to vacuole, some of them are found to be responsive by different environmental stresses. Here we report the isolation of a Rab7 (RabG3b) cDNA from peanut (Arachis hypogaea). Overexpression of the open reading frame (ORF) of Rab7 cDNA encoding 205 amino acids in E. coli conferred th
Severe gastrointestinal dysmotility developed after treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs
Background. Sporadic cases of abdominal pain and dysmotility has been described after treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs. The aim of the present study was to scrutinize for patients with severe gastrointestinal complaints after treatment with GnRH analogs, to describe the expression of antibodies against progonadoliberin-2, GnRH1, GnRH receptor (GnRHR), luteinizing hormon
A Nonsynonymous Polymorphism in IRS1 Modifies Risk of Developing Breast and Ovarian Cancers in BRCA1 and Ovarian Cancer in BRCA2 Mutation Carriers
Background: We previously reported significant associations between genetic variants in insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) and breast cancer risk in women carrying BRCA1 mutations. The objectives of this study were to investigate whether the IRS1 variants modified ovarian cancer risk and were associated with breast cancer risk in a larger cohort of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers. Methods: IRS1
ColorMath-a package for color summed calculations in SU(N-c)
A Mathematica package for color summed calculations in QCD (SU(N-c)) is presented. Color contractions of any color amplitude appearing in QCD may be performed, and the package uses a syntax which is very similar to how color structure is written on paper. It also supports the definition of color vectors and bases, and special functions such as scalar products are defined for such color tensors.
Macronutrient Composition of the Diet and Prospective Weight Change in Participants of the EPIC-PANACEA Study
Background: The effect of the macronutrient composition of the usual diet on long term weight maintenance remains controversial. Methods: 373,803 subjects aged 25-70 years were recruited in 10 European countries (1992-2000) in the PANACEA project of the EPIC cohort. Diet was assessed at baseline using country-specific validated questionnaires and weight and height were measured at baseline and sel

Homofobins geopolitik: En studie av rysk mediebevakning av förbudet mot ”homosexuell propaganda”
In Russia, as in some other countries around the world, we are currently witnessing a wave of politically sanctioned homophobia, most concretely manifested in the 2013 law against “homosexual propaganda”. By examining Russian mainstream media reporting, this article aims to reconstruct a dominant narrative on homosexuality and LGBT rights. It is found that this narrative revolves around three trop
Lieb-Thirring inequalities on the half-line with critical exponent
We consider the operator -d(2)/dr(2) - V in L-2(R+) with Dirichlet boundary condition at the origin. For the moments of its negative eigenvalues we prove the bound [GRAPHICS] for any alpha is an element of [0, 1) and gamma >= (1 - alpha)/2. This includes a Lieb-Thirring inequality in the critical endpoint case.
An ASM/ADM model interface for dynamic plant-wide simulation
Mathematical modelling has proven to be very useful in process design, operation and optimisation. A recent trend in WWTP modelling is to include the different subunits in so-called plant-wide models rather than focusing on parts of the entire process. One example of a typical plant-wide model is the coupling of an upstream activated sludge plant (including primary settler, and secondary clarifier
