Human papillomavirus typing in reporting of condyloma.

Monitoring of condylomas is an early evidence of population effectiveness of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programs. If reporting could include HPV typing, the contribution by vaccine HPV types to condyloma burden could be monitored.

Differential Optical-absorption Spectroscopy (doas) System For Urban Atmospheric-pollution Monitoring

We describe a fully computer-controlled differential optical absorption spectroscopy system for atmospheric air pollution monitoring. A receiving optical telescope can sequentially tune in to light beams from a number of distant high-pressure Xe lamp light sources to cover the area of a medium-sized city. A beam-finding servosystem and automatic gain control permit unattended long-time monitoring.

Clonal chromosomal abnormalities in congenital bile duct dilatation (Caroli's disease)

BACKGROUND: Caroli's disease is a rare congenital disorder characterised by cystic dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts and an increased risk of cholangiocellular carcinoma. The cause is unknown, but occasional familial clustering suggests that some cases are inherited, in particular when occurring in association with polycystic kidney disease and germline PKD1 gene mutations. To date, no gen

Recursive Formulas for the Evaluation of Certain Complex Integrals

This paper presents recursive formulas which admit simultaneous tests of stability and evaluation of quadratic loss functions for linear discrete-time dynamical systems. The method admits a significant reduction of the number of computations in comparison with previously known methods.

Fenestrated endovascular repair for juxtarenal aortic pathology.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcomes after fenestrated endovascular aortic repair (f-EVAR) in a tertiary European referral center. METHODS: All patients treated with commercially available custom-made f-EVAR between September 2002 and June 2007 were prospectively enrolled in a computerized database including co-morbidities and aneurysm morphology. Patients were retrospectively analyzed. Follow-up c

Biologically active ADAMTS13 is expressed in renal tubular epithelial cells.

ADAMTS13 mRNA, which encodes the von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease, has been detected in a variety of tissues, including the kidney. The aim of our study was to characterize tubular expression and bioactivity of ADAMTS13. ADAMTS13 mRNA was detected in cultured primary human renal tubular epithelial cells (HRTEC) and in A498 cells, a human renal carcinoma cell line, by real-time PCR. Protein

Organ culture of the trigeminal ganglion induces enhanced expression of calcitonin gene-related peptide via activation of extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase 1/2.

Background and objective: Clinical and experimental studies have revealed a central role of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in primary headaches. The role of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2 (ERK1/2) in neuronal and glial cell expression of CGRP- immunoreactivity (-ir) in rat trigeminal ganglia was studied with an organ culture method. Experimental procedures: Sections of adult

Identification and normalization of plate effects in cDNA Microarray data

Introducing a new way of visualizing cDNA microarray data we have identified a new type of systematic variation, which we refer to as plate effects. We believe that plate effects are due to non-biological differences in the cDNA clones products spotted onto the microarray slides. By comparing the consistency of all replicates (both within and between slides) after performing 42 different normaliza

Tense and lax vowels - degree of constriction or pharyngeal volume?

This article reports a series of model experiments where tense vowel configurations were transformed in steps to lax configurations in order to estimate the contribution of each articulator to the spectral contrast. Traditionally, the contrast of tenseness in vowels has been associated with the degree of constriction of the passage between the tongue arch and the palate and with vowel quantity, bo

Molecular characterization of the immune system: emergence of proteins, processes, and domains.

Many genes and proteins are required to carry out the processes of innate and adaptive immunity. For many studies, including systems biology, it is necessary to have a clear and comprehensive definition of the immune system, including the genes and proteins that take part in immunological processes. We have identified and cataloged a large portion of the human immunology-related genes, which we ca
