Terminated LDPC convolutional codes with thresholds close to capacity
An ensemble of LDPC convolutional codes with parity-check matrices composed of permutation matrices is considered. The convergence of the iterative belief propagation based decoder for terminated convolutional codes in the ensemble is analyzed for binary-input output-symmetric memoryless channels using density evolution techniques. We observe that the structured irregularity in the Tanner graph of
A Digital Baseband for Low Power FSK Based Receiver in 65 nm CMOS
The design of a digital baseband for a low power wireless receiver in 65 nm CMOS is presented. It consists of decimation filtering, matched filters for data detection, and preamble based synchronization. The circuit was designed using low threshold devices in both low power (LP-LVT) and general-purpose (GP-LVT) domains. The fabricated circuits were functionally verified, and silicon measurements s

Tourists and Global Environmental Change: A Possible Scenario in Relation to Nature and Authenticity
The aim of this chapter is to discuss global environmental change (GEC) through the social construction of nature and notions of authenticity. We will discuss the social construction of nature in a specific context, namely that of different kinds of nature-based tourism. The argument will revolve around what we perceive as a shift in focus from the image of nature as thing to nature as experience,
Human Glandular Kallikrein 2
Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) is a serine protease, which is predominantly expressed by the prostate gland and found in seminal plasma at mean levels of 6 mg/ml. It has 79% amino acid sequence identity with prostate-specific antigen (PSA or hK3). The aim of this work was to produce hK2 by recombinant expression technologies in order to study its biochemical and biological properties and its

Induced tissue displacement in magnetomotive ultrasound imaging - simulations and experiments
Magnetomotive ultrasound imaging is an emerging technique where superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles can be used as an ultrasound contrast agent. A time-varying external magnetic field acts to move the particles lodged in tissue, and ultrasound is used to detect the resulting tissue movement. In phantom studies we have observed opposite phase motion next to regions containing nanoparticles.

Hydro-mechanical properties of a water unsaturated sodium bentonite. Laboratory study and theoretical interpretation
Highly compacted bentonite has been proposed as the buffer material in the Swedish concept for the disposal of nuclear waste. To increase the knowledge of the hydro-mechanical behaviour of unsaturated swelling bentonite a series of laboratory experiments was carried out. The main purpose was to conceptually model the hydro-mechanical behaviour of the bentonite. The influence of testing techniques

Ethanol production from steam pretreated sugarcane bagasse via simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) using cellulase and b.glucosidase enzymes
Cellulosic ethanol was produced via simultaneous enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation of steam pretreated sugarcane bagasse. Sugarcane bagasse underwent steam pretreatments at Log Ro 3.05-4.09, under catalysed (SO2 2% and H2SO4 0.25%) and uncatalysed conditions. Digestibilities of the steam pretreated bagasse were assessed via enzymatic hydrolysis using cellulase (Celluclast 1.5L) and B-glucosida

Lithic Technological Analysis of the Thin-butted Flint Axe
Thin-butted flint axes are one of the most frequently occurring types in Scandinavian prehistory. While most of the type's morphological features show a narrow range of variation, the length of whole thin-butted axes can vary from 11 to 47 cm. The object of the article is to apply various methods of lithic analysis, including edge-wear analysis and experiment, to explain this variation. In examini
