Tailbiting trellis representations of linear block codes with an arbitrary sectionalization of the time axis are studied. A model describing the oxygen dynamics in an E. coli fed-batch cultivation is presented. In a linearised version the parameters are estimated and validated with good results. The model is used to discuss the guidelines for feed controller tuning derived in Åkesson 2001.
