Cities and climate change – examining advantages and challenges of urban climate change experiments

This paper contributes to the literature on urban climate change experiments by analysing ascribed advantages and challenges of organizing climate change experiments at the urban scale, and by examining how local actions translate into effect. We here distinguish between effects of experiments in achieving actual sustainability gains (‘goal-oriented objectives’) and instigating broader institution

Do audit firm and audit costs/fees influence earnings management in Swedish municipalities?

Previous research on the private sector shows that auditors and auditing firms are important actors in ensuring high-quality reporting based on accrual accounting. The aim of this study is to explore whether audit firms and audit costs/fees influence municipalities’ probability of applying earnings management in their annual accounts. The empirical data, which covered the financial years 2011–13,

A comprehensive analysis of polymorphic variants in steroid hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 metabolism and risk of in situ breast cancer : Results from the Breast and Prostate Cancer Cohort Consortium

We assessed the association between 1,414 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes involved in synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones and insulin-like growth factor 1, and risk of breast cancer in situ (BCIS), with the aim of determining whether any of these were disease specific. This was carried out using 1,062 BCIS cases and 10,126 controls as well as 6,113 invasive breast cancer c

Ländryggsröntgen ger falsk säkerhet och ringa nytta för patienten : MRT och DT ger bättre och billigare resultat

In 2016 140 000 lumbar spine radiographies were performed in Sweden (14 000 per million inhabitants) to a cost of about 85 million SEK (≈8.5 million Euro) and a negligible value for the patients with low back pain. In the work-up of low back pain, when imaging is indicated, lumbar spine radiography should be replaced by limited magnetic resonance imaging including a whole lower body coronal STIR s

The primary role of flow processing in the identification of scene-relative object movement

Retinal image motion could be due to movement of the observer through space or an object relative to the scene. Optic flow, form, and change of position cues all provide information that could be used to separate out retinal motion due to object movement from retinal motion due to observer movement. In Experiment 1 we used a minimal display to examine the contribution of optic flow and form cues.

Investigating lexical competition and the cost of phonemic restoration

Due to phonemic restoration, listeners can reliably perceive words when a phoneme is replaced with noise. The cost associated with this process was investigated along with the effect of lexical uniqueness on phonemic restoration, using data from a lexical decision experiment where noise replaced phonemes that were either uniqueness points (the phoneme at which a word deviates from all nonrelated w
