Frailty and Sexual Health in Older European Men

Background. There has been little research on how late-life frailty interrelates with sexual health. Our objective was to examine the association of frailty with sexual functioning and satisfaction among older men. Methods. The study population consisted of 1,504 men aged 60 to 79 years, participating in the European Male Aging Study. Self-report questionnaires measured overall sexual functioning,

Slot-Coupled Millimeter-Wave Dielectric Resonator Antenna for High-Efficiency Monolithic Integration

A readily mass-producible, flip-chip assembled, and slot-coupled III-V compound semiconductor dielectric resonator antenna operating in the millimeter-wave spectrum has been fabricated and characterized. The antenna has a 6.1% relative bandwidth, deduced from its 10 dB return loss over 58.8-62.5 GHz, located around the resonance at 60.5 GHz. Gating in the delay-domain alleviated the analysis of th

Poisson's ratio from polarization of acoustic zero-group velocity Lamb mode.

Poisson's ratio of an isotropic and free elastic plate is estimated from the polarization of the first symmetric acoustic zero-group velocity Lamb mode. This polarization is interpreted as the ratio of the absolute amplitudes of the surface normal and surface in-plane components of the acoustic mode. Results from the evaluation of simulated datasets indicate that the presented relation, which link

The philosophy of interdisciplinarity: sustainability science and problem-feeding

Traditionally, interdisciplinarity has been taken to require conceptual or theoretical integration. However, in the emerging field of sustainability science this kind of integration is often lacking. Indeed sometimes it is regarded as an obstacle to interdisciplinarity. Drawing on examples from sustainability science, we show that problem-feeding, i.e. the transfer of problems, is a common and fru

LPL is the strongest prognostic factor in a comparative analysis of RNA-based markers in early chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Background The expression levels of LPL, ZAP70, TCL1A, CLLU1 and MCL1 have recently been proposed as prognostic factors in chronic lymphocytic leukemia. However, few studies have systematically compared these different RNA-based markers. Design and Methods Using real-time quantitative PCR, we measured the mRNA expression levels of these genes in unsorted samples from 252 newly diagnosed chronic ly

Treatment of exercise-induced asthma, respiratory and allergic disorders in sports and the relationship to doping: Part II of the report from the Joint Task Force of European Respiratory Society (ERS) and European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) in cooperation with GA(2)LEN

Aim: The aims of part II is to review the current recommended treatment of exercise-induced asthma (EIA), respiratory and allergic disorders in sports, to review the evidence on possible improvement of performance in sports by asthma drugs and to make recommendations for their treatment. Methods: The literature cited with respect to the treatment of exercise induced asthma in athletes (and in asth

Heme A biosynthesis

Respiration in plants, most animals and many aerobic microbes is dependent on heme A. This is a highly specialized type of heme found as prosthetic group in cytochrome a-containing respiratory oxidases. Heme A differs structurally from heme B (protoheme IX) by the presence of a hydroxyethylfarnesyl group instead of a vinyl side group at the C2 position and a formyl group instead of a methyl side g

Development of Safety-Critical Software Systems Using Open Source Software - A Systematic Map

The popularity of Open Source Software (OSS) has increased the interest in using it in safety critical applications. The aim of this study is to review research carried out on usage of open source code in development of safety-critical software and systems. We conducted a systematic mapping study through searches in library databases and manual identification of articles from open source conferenc

Swedish hinna viewed through its English correspondences – have time or be able to?

This article considers the Swedish verb hinna and its English correspondences in the English-Swedish Parallel Corpus – both in the direction Swedish original to English translation and in the direction English original to Swedish translation. Swedish hinna lacks a straightforward equivalent in English; thus its English correspondences in parallel corpora can shed light on its meaning and use, as d

Hypertensive encephalopathy and cerebral infarction

Introduction: Hypertensive encephalopathy is one cause of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. Hypertensive encephalopathy and cerebral infarction have only been reported in a few individual case reports. Case description: A 51-year-old woman presented with hypertensive encephalopathy. T2-weighted images from magnetic resonance imaging showed hyperintense lesions in both occipital and par

Selective hydrogen bond disruption in adenine monolayer films by reaction with water

High-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of two-dimensional films of adenine on a highly oriented pyrolitic graphite [0 0 0 1] surface reveal bonding changes induced by exposure to water. The hydrogen-bond interactions between adenine molecules were replaced by adenine-water hydrogen bonds in a stepwise pattern. This reaction destroyed the film network and changed the chemical state of the

Optimizing the Level of Confidence for Multiple Jobs

Correct operation of real-time systems (RTS) is defined as producing correct results within given time constraints (deadlines). As RTS are becoming more susceptible to soft errors, employing fault-tolerant techniques is crucial. Rollback Recovery with Checkpointing (RRC) is an efficient fault-tolerant technique. However, RRC introduces a time overhead which depends on the number of checkpoints. Th

The Multielectron Ionization Dynamics Underlying Attosecond Strong-Field Spectroscopies

Subcycle strong-field ionization (SFI) underlies many emerging spectroscopic probes of atomic or molecular attosecond electronic dynamics. Extending methods such as attosecond high harmonic generation spectroscopy to complex polyatomic molecules requires an understanding of multielectronic excitations, already hinted at by theoretical modeling of experiments on atoms, diatomics, and triatomics. He

Land Sparing Versus Land Sharing: Moving Forward

To address the challenges of biodiversity conservation and commodity production, a framework has been proposed that distinguishes between the integration (land sharing) and separation (land sparing) of conservation and production. Controversy has arisen around this framework partly because many scholars have focused specifically on food production rather than more encompassing notions such as land

Arbitrary rotation invariant random matrix ensembles and supersymmetry: orthogonal and unitary-symplectic case

Recently, the supersymmetry method was extended from Gaussian ensembles to arbitrary unitarily invariant matrix ensembles by generalizing the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation. Here, we complete this extension by including arbitrary orthogonally and unitary-symplectically invariant matrix ensembles. The results are equivalent to, but the approach is different from, the superbosonization formula.

Implementeringen av Socialstyrelsens riktlinjer för missbruks- och beroendevården: Utvärdering av det nationella utvecklingsarbetet Kunskap till Praktik

ABSTRACT Det nationella utvecklingsarbetet Kunskap till Praktik (KtP) inleddes under 2008.
