Sentinel node biopsy for prostate cancer : Report from a consensus panel meeting

Objective: To explore the evidence and knowledge gaps in sentinel node biopsy (SNB) in prostate cancer through a consensus panel of experts. Methods: A two-round Delphi survey among experts was followed by a consensus panel meeting of 16 experts in February 2016. Agreement voting was performed using the research and development project/University of California, Los Angeles Appropriateness Methodol

Timing of antenatal corticosteroid administration and survival in extremely preterm infants : A national population-based cohort study

Objective: To explore the association between administration-to-birth interval of antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) and survival in extremely preterm infants. Design: Population-based prospective cohort study. Setting: All obstetric and neonatal units in Sweden from 1 April 2004 to 31 March 2007. Population: All live-born infants (n = 707) born at 22-26 completed weeks of gestation. Methods: The rel

Integrative genomic analysis implicates limited peripheral adipose storage capacity in the pathogenesis of human insulin resistance

Insulin resistance is a key mediator of obesity-related cardiometabolic disease, yet the mechanisms underlying this link remain obscure. Using an integrative genomic approach, we identify 53 genomic regions associated with insulin resistance phenotypes (higher fasting insulin levels adjusted for BMI, lower HDL cholesterol levels and higher triglyceride levels) and provide evidence that their link

New insights on resource stoichiometry: assessing availability of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus to bacterioplankton

Boreal lake and river ecosystems receive large quantities of organic nutrients and carbon (C) from their catchments. How bacterioplankton respond to these inputs is not well understood, in part because we base our understanding and predictions on total pools, yet we know little about the stoichiometry of bioavailable elements within organic matter. We designed bioassays with the purpose of exhaust

Detection of High Grade Prostate Cancer among PLCO Participants Using a Prespecified 4-Kallikrein Marker Panel

Purpose: We assessed the performance of a 4-kallikrein panel with and without microseminoprotein-β to predict high grade (Gleason 7+/Gleason Grade Group 2+) prostate cancer on biopsy in a multiethnic cohort from PLCO (Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial). Materials and Methods: Levels of free, intact, total prostate specific antigen, human kallikrein-2 and microseminoprot

Organizational Trust : Discourse Analytical and Experimental Perspectives

This thesis employs a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of linguistic analysis to investigate how business organizations use discourse as a strategic tool to build and repair stakeholders’ trust. In addition, the thesis makes a methodological contribution by developing a novel corpus annotation method that offers solutions to some of the most significant challenges involved in re

Aesthetic regulation of objectionable representations. : A semiotic approach to memorials and religious architectural space.

Whenever a material object is selected to represent a physically absent, but emotionally present referent, such as a religious figure or a deceased relative, we have a complex representation situation that involves what we could tentatively label “transgressive cognitive acts”. A transgressive cognitive act is here meant to involve a part that is experienced as present, and as having an effect, bu

Effects of UVB radiation on grazing of two cladocerans from high-altitude Andean lakes

Climate change and water extraction may result in increased exposition of the biota to ultraviolet-B radiation (UVB) in high-altitude Andean lakes. Although exposition to lethal doses in these lakes is unlikely, sub-lethal UVB doses may have strong impacts in key compartments such as zooplankton. Here, we aimed at determining the effect of sub-lethal UVB doses on filtration rates of two cladoceran

What is stupid? People's conception of unintelligent behavior

This paper argues that studying why and when people call certain actions stupid should be the interest of psychological investigations not just because it is a frequent everyday behavior, but also because it is a robust behavioral reflection of the rationalistic expectations to which people adjust their own behavior and expect others to. The relationship of intelligence and intelligent behavior ha

Costs of deep foot infections in patients with diabetes mellitus

Objective: To calculate costs for the management of deep foot infections and to identify the most important factors related to treatment costs. Design: Costs for in-hospital care, surgery, investigations, antibacterials, visits to the foot-care team, orthopaedic appliances and topical treatment were calculated retrospectively from diagnosis until healing or death. Multiple regression analysis was

Localization of the chromosomal breakpoints of the t(12;16) in liposarcoma to subbands 12q13.3 and 16p11.2

Short-term cultures of two myxoid liposarcomas and two mixed-type (myxoid and round cell) liposarcomas were cytogenetically analyzed. A t(12;16)(q13;p11) was present in three tumors, whereas the fourth had an unbalanced 12;16-translocation with breaks in 12q13 and 12q22, with loss of the 12q13-q22 segment, and in 16p11. In the two mixed liposarcomas, the breakpoints could be determined at subband
