Sicca/Sjögren's syndrome triggered by PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitors. Data from the International Immunocancer Registry (ICIR)
Objective. To analyse the worldwide occurrence of sicca/Sjögren's (SS) syndrome associated with the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in patients with cancer. Methods. The ImmunoCancer International Registry (ICIR) is a Big Data- Sharing multidisciplinary network composed by 40 specialists in Rheumatology, Internal Medicine, Immunology and Oncology from 18 countries focused on the clinical
Why women do not use the helmet when riding a bicycle
Women seem to use the helmet when riding a bicycle less frequently than men. Two possible explanations for this behavior are that 1) it is less appalling to them because of lack of comfort or other reasons, or 2) they use bicycles in a more cautious way than men so they feel that they do not need the helmet as much. The present paper explores these two explanations in 5, 691 cyclists that responde

A process for identifying national solutions to challenges faced in developing countries in reporting to environmental conventions : Insight from the facilitating national reporting to the rio conventions project
Almost all countries in the world are party to the Rio Conventions. This entails a number of responsibilities, including reporting periodically on aspects of environmental health and national implementation of the convention. These reports can cover hundreds of pages, so completing reports is often a significant undertaking. Since countries can be party to numerous Multilateral Environmental Agree

Semiconductor-to-Metal Transition and Quasiparticle Renormalization in Doped Graphene Nanoribbons
A semiconductor-to-metal transition in N = 7 armchair graphene nanoribbons causes drastic changes in its electron and phonon system. By using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of lithium-doped graphene nanoribbons, a quasiparticle band gap renormalization from 2.4 to 2.1 eV is observed. Reaching high doping levels (0.05 electrons per atom), it is found that the effective mass of the conduc
Direct Electron Transfer of Cellobiose Dehydrogenase on Positively Charged Polyethyleneimine Gold Nanoparticles (journal cover)
Invited for this month's cover is the group of Prof. Dr. Lo Gorton at Lund University, Sweden. The cover picture shows a biosensor for measuring lactose in dairy products. It consists of a gold electrode, onto which a layer of polyethyleneimine-capped gold nanoparticles is deposited. Read the full text of the article at 10.1002/cplu.201600453.

CDK9 Regulates Apoptosis of Myoblast Cells by Modulation of microRNA-1 Expression
Cdk9 is the catalytic core of the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb) and regulates transcriptional elongation factors by phosphorylation of RNA pol II. Apart from its role on myogenic gene expression, Cdk9 regulation of muscle-specific microRNAs in the early stage of cardiomyogenesis is poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that Cdk9 not only regulates myogenic transcription fact
High-accuracy modeling of antibody structures by a search for minimum-energy recombination of backbone fragments
Current methods for antibody structure prediction rely on sequence homology to known structures. Although this strategy often yields accurate predictions, models can be stereo-chemically strained. Here, we present a fully automated algorithm, called AbPredict, that disregards sequence homology, and instead uses a Monte Carlo search for low-energy conformations built from backbone segments and rigi
Synthesis of Cr(III) Salen Complexes as Supramolecular Catalytic Systems for Ring-Opening Reactions of Epoxides
The synthesis of two conformationally restricted Cr(III) salen complexes, 2 and 3, is described. Together, they constitute a supramolecular hydrogen-bonding catalytic system for the recently reported asymmetric ring-opening reactions of epoxides by a dynamic supramolecular catalyst. The synthesis involves state-of-the art transformations in frontline synthetic chemistry applied to heterocyclic che
Bridging the gap between theory and practice : Socio-technical toolbox
This paper describes a teaching experience of information systems (IS) analysis and design unit. In this unit every student applies a socio-technical (ST) toolbox in a real life business. These projects give students experience of real world business practices, issues and processes and provide opportunities to create a stimulating learning environment. At the same time the projects help involved b
Perturbed bone composition and integrity with disorganized osteoblast function in zinc receptor/Gpr39-deficient mice
Changes in bone matrix composition are frequently found with bone diseases and may be associated with increased fracture risk. Bone is rich in the trace element zinc. Zinc was established to play a significant role in the growth, development, and maintenance of healthy bones; however, the mechanisms underlying zinc effects on the integrity of the skeleton are poorly understood. Here, we show that
Modeling the effect of different dimensions in high contrast grating mirror
The reflectivity spectrum in Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) is investigated by replacing High Contrast Grating (HCG) layer instead of distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR) as a top mirror. In addition, the scalability feature in the HCG layer is used to design a reflector for λ = 1;300 nm. High reflectivity (>99%) mirrors in VCSELs are mandatory because of the short gain length. In
Interactions in aqueous salt solutions : Atomistic modelling versus experiment
The research in this thesis investigates how atoms and molecules constituting aqueous salt solutions interact using computational approaches, namely Monte Carlo simulations and molecular dynamics simulations. In the first paper, an atomistic model was developed for aqueous solutions of sodium thiocyanate and potassium thiocyanate (NaSCN and KSCN). The model reproduced several experimentally measur
