Implementing the Critical Friend Method for Peer Feedback among Teaching Librarians in an Academic Setting

Objective – The role of the academic librarian has become increasingly educative in nature. In this study, the critical friend method was introduced among teaching librarians in an academic setting of medicine and health sciences to ascertain whether this approach could be implemented for feedback on teaching of these librarians as part of their professional development. Methods – We used a singl

The meaning of the future – Towards a more specific definition of possible selves.

Possible selves are traditionally defined as conceptions of our selves in future states. The author discusses the way the theory is used in the literature and argues that there is a need for a clearer definition, cecause there appear to be a number of common misinterpretations regarding possible selves. Important features of possible selves are discussed, in particular their nature as exp

Wine produced by ecological methods produces relatively little nasal blockage in wine-sensitive subjects.

CONCLUSION: Subjects with self-reported nasal symptoms following consumption of red wine may respond with less nasal blockage to a wine produced with ecological methods than to wine not labelled as ecologically produced. OBJECTIVE: To compare nasal symptoms following intake of three different wines--one that was ecologically produced and two that were traditionally produced. SUBJECTS AND METHODS:

Rational rate punctured convolutional codes for soft-decision Viterbi decoding

We present rational rate k/n punctured convolutional codes (n up to 8, k=1, ···, n-1, and constraint length ν up to 8) with good performance. Many of these codes improve the free distance and (or) weight spectra over previously reported codes with the same parameters. The tabulated codes are found by an exhaustive (or a random) search

Factors associated with BMI change over five years in a Swedish adult population. Results from the Scania Public Health Cohort Study.

Objectives: On account of the increasing worldwide problems associated with overweight and obesity, the aim of the present study was to examine BMI change over 5 years in relation to different lifestyle-, demographic- and psychosocial work-related factors. METHODS: A cohort of 9913 persons responded to an identical survey in 2000 and 2005. BMI change over the period was examined in relation to gen

Towards Quantitative Diagnostics using Short-Pulse Laser Techniques

Under vissa förutsättningar svarar dessa ämnen genom att i sin tur skicka ut ljus i en aLaser based diagnostic tools have had an exploding impact on fundamental as well as applied research in a number of disciplines, such as biomedicine, physical chemistry etc over the last decades. Whereas fundamental research often investigate phenomena in extreme conditions, applied research aims at performing in-situ measurements, in order to understand the many aspects and entangled phenomena th

Spatial characteristics of atrial fibrillation using body surface and intra-atrial signals

This licentiate thesis is in the field of biomedical signal processing with main focus on processing of cardiac signals measured on the body surface or invasively from patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The first part addresses spatial analysis of AF using VCG data synthesized from the 12-lead ECG. Two parameters each are extracted to characterize the spatial orientation as well as the spatia

Active distances for convolutional codes

A family of active distance measures for general convolutional codes is defined. These distances are generalizations of the extended distances introduced by Thommesen and Justesen (1983) for unit memory convolutional codes. It is shown that the error correcting capability of a convolutional code is determined by the active distances. The ensemble of periodically time-varying convolutional codes is
