Nagorno-Karabakh: the world should have seen this crisis coming – and it’s not over yet
Detection of lymph node metastasis in colon cancer by ectopically expressed fibroblast markers FOXQ1 and THBS2
Introduction: Approximately 25% of colon cancer (CC) patients having curative surgery will relapse. Therefore, it is crucial to identify patients with increased recurrence risk to offer them adjuvant chemotherapy. Three markers with prominent expression in fibroblasts: forkhead box Q1 (FOXQ1), matrix metalloproteinase-11 (MMP11), and thrombospondin-2 (THBS2), and the fibroblast expressed chemokine
Societal economic burden and determinants of costs for atopic dermatitis
Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin disease while the economic burden of AD by severity is not adequately understood. Objective: To estimate the societal economic burden and to identify cost determinants of AD. Methods: In this population-based, controlled cohort study in Sweden, patients with AD were identified through diagnosis codes in primary or secondary care or b
Preoperative Electrophysiology in Patients With Ulnar Nerve Entrapment at the Elbow-Prediction of Surgical Outcome and Influence of Age, Sex and Diabetes
The impact of preoperative electrophysiology on outcome of surgical treatment in ulnar nerve entrapment at the elbow (UNE) is not clarified. Our aim was to evaluate influence of preoperative electrophysiologic grading on outcome and analyse how age, sex, and in particular diabetes affect such grading. Electrophysiologic protocols for 406 UNE cases, surgically treated at two hand surgery units repo
Healthcare provision for Swedish persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities
This paper aims to give a short description of Swedish healthcare provision for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Swedish persons with IDD should have access to the general healthcare system on the same terms as the general population, and thereby enjoy equal opportunities for healthcare of good quality. Reports from government agencies and interest groups, however, d
Parental satisfaction with paediatric care with and without the support of an eHealth device : a quasi-experimental study in Sweden
Background: The period after a child is discharged from hospital is generally described as challenging for the parents. Their satisfaction with the health services received is an important indicator of the quality of care. eHealth devices are increasingly used in health care to support communication with parents. Differences in levels of parental satisfaction by modality of provided care or by par

Plasma Biomarker Strategy for Selecting Patients with Alzheimer Disease for Antiamyloid Immunotherapies
Importance: Antiamyloid immunotherapies against Alzheimer disease (AD) are emerging. Scalable, cost-effective tools will be needed to identify amyloid β (Aβ)-positive patients without an advanced stage of tau pathology who are most likely to benefit from these therapies. Blood-based biomarkers might reduce the need to use cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or positron emission tomography (PET) for this. Ob
Multicenter parallel randomized trial evaluating incisional negative pressure wound therapy for the prevention of surgical site infection after lower extremity bypass
Objective: Incisional negative pressure wound therapy (iNPWT) applied over all incisions after lower extremity bypass in the prevention of surgical site infections (SSIs) is unclear. The primary and secondary aims of this study were to investigate if prophylactic iNPWT after the elective lower extremity bypass prevents SSI and other surgical wound complications. Methods: This was a multicenter, pa
Lipid shape and packing are key for optimal design of pH-sensitive mRNA lipid nanoparticles
The ionizable-lipid component of RNA-containing nanoparticles controls the pH-dependent behavior necessary for an efficient delivery of the cargo - the so-called endosomal escape. However, it is still an empirical exercise to identify optimally performing lipids. Here, we study two well-known ionizable lipids, DLin-MC3-DMA and DLin-DMA using a combination of experiments, multiscale computer simula
Long-term outcomes with haloperidol versus placebo in acutely admitted adult ICU patients with delirium
Purpose: We assessed long-term outcomes in acutely admitted adult patients with delirium treated in intensive care unit (ICU) with haloperidol versus placebo. Methods: We conducted pre-planned analyses of 1-year outcomes in the Agents Intervening against Delirium in the ICU (AID-ICU) trial, including mortality and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assessed by Euroqol (EQ) 5-dimension 5-level

The risk for venous thromboembolism and cardiometabolic disorders in offspring from thrombosis-prone pedigrees
Background: Most family studies on venous thromboembolism (VTE) have focused on first-degree relatives. Objectives: We took a pedigree-based approach and examined the risk of VTE and cardiometabolic disorders in offspring from extended pedigrees according to the densities of VTE in pedigrees. Methods: From the Swedish population, we identified a total of 482 185 pedigrees containing a mean of 14.2

Moderniserad maktdelning

Towards Human Rights 2.0? : A meta-theoretical analysis of the disruptions to human rights foundations by artificial intelligence
The use of artificial intelligence (‘AI’) is ubiquitous in society today. It has contributed towards advancements in diverse fields such as healthcare, transportation, public administration and in helping humanity to solve pressing challenges such as climate change. As AI increasingly plays a larger role within our daily lives and in society, it is inevitable that human rights issues will arise in
A superconvergent stencil-adaptive SBP-SAT finite difference scheme
A stencil-adaptive SBP-SAT finite difference scheme is shown to display superconvergent behavior. As proof of concept, applied to the linear advection equation, it has a convergence rate O(Δx4) in contrast to a conventional scheme, which converges at a rate O(Δx3).
