1 sonata (e70), for piano

Albert-László Barabási, from the introduction to his book titled Linked: the new science of networks, “Just as diverse humans share skeletons that are almost indistinguishable, we have learned that these diverse maps follow a common blueprint. A string of recent breathtaking discoveries has forced us to acknowledge that amazingly simple and far-reaching natural laws govern the structure and evolut

Central venous catheter-related complications in hematologic patients : An observational study

BACKGROUND: The frequency of central venous catheter (CVC) related complications in hematological patients has previously been studied but some uncertainty remains. Therefore, this observational cohort study was designed primarily to investigate mechanical and infectious complications related to CVC insertion in hematological patients and secondarily, to identify factors associated with these comp

A new way of working. Professionals' expectations and experiences of the Culture and Health project for clients with mental disorders

A new way of working with complementary interventions was developed and conducted in a county in Sweden. The intervention, Culture and Health, was directed to adult clients with mental disorders and offered cultural, nature-assisted and physical activities once a week during 14 weeks. Implementation of new interventions might be challenging and one barrier might be the professionals (Grol & Gr

Aktiviteter

Mentorship and creativity: Effects of mentor creativity and mentoring style

This paper examines mentorship as a mechanism for individuals to acquire and develop creativity. More specifically, we study the effect of mentor creativity on protégé creativity and how this effect is moderated by the mentoring styles of autonomy and exploration. Our empirical analysis focuses on formal PhD supervision and training, drawing on survey and bibliometric data for 143 life-science pro

Attitudes of administrative decision‑makers towards nature‑based solutions for flood risk management in Germany

Over the last two decades, alternative and holistic concepts, such as Nature-based Solutions (NbS) were introduced and adopted by policy-makers, including to the field of flood protection, thereby causing a paradigm shift towards flood risk management. The inclusion of natural water retention measures (NWRM) such as dike relocation and floodplain restoration into the German guidelines for flood pr

Targeted acetylation of wood : a tool for tuning wood-water interactions

Abstract: Wood is an increasingly important material in the sustainable transition of societies worldwide. The performance of wood in structures is intimately tied to the presence of moisture in the material, which directly affects important characteristics such as dimensions and mechanical properties, and indirectly its susceptibility to fungal decomposition. By chemical modification, the durabil

A finite deformation isogeometric finite element approach to fibre-reinforced composites with fibre bending stiffness

It is a common technique in many fields of engineering to reinforce materials with certain types of fibres in order to enhance the mechanical properties of the overall material. Specific simulation methods help to predict the behaviour of these composites in advance. In this regard, a widely established approach is the incorporation of the fibre direction vector as an additional argument of the en

The Influence of Sociodemographic Factors on the Theoretical Effectiveness of Fire Prevention Interventions on Fatal Residential Fires

The risk of fatal residential fires is known to be differentiated by sociodemographic factors. However, often prevention measures are introduced generally in a population, thereby perhaps affecting the effectiveness of these interventions. By using a 20-year high-quality register over fatal fires in Sweden and a previously validated Boolean expressions regarding the effectiveness for specific inte

It’s a long walk: Lasting effects of maternity ward openings on labour market performance

Being born in a hospital versus having a traditional birth attendant at home represents the most common early life policy change worldwide. By applying a difference-in-differences approach to register-based individual-level data on the total population, this paper explores the long-term economic effects of the opening of new maternity wards as an early life quasi-experiment. It first finds that th

Reconceptualizing student ratings of teaching to support quality discourse on student learning : a systems perspective

This paper summarizes the discourse on student ratings of teaching in higher education. It reconceptualizes student ratings within a larger process of promoting quality in teaching and student learning. As students engage in productive dialogue with teachers and administrators, metrics drawn from decontextualized surveys are admittedly a vital resource. Our paper contends, however, that student ra
