Association between flexibility activity and blood-pressure change among older adults in Japan : A 5-year longitudinal study

This longitudinal study examined the relationship between flexibility-activity and blood-pressure (BP) change among older adults in Japan. Our study included 452 older adults who took part in our survey in both 2012/2013 and 2017/2018. The seated systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) were measured both at baseline and at the 5 years follow-up. The frequencies of the different physic

Effectiveness of the Costa Rican Payments for Ecosystem Services program in mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions: Trends in carbon stocks 2012-2020

Payments for ecosystem services (PES), a mechanism of incentives or compensation to landowners for provision of ecosystem services, have grown as a tool for meeting conservation goals. The Costa Rican payments for ecosystem services (PSA) program is one of the best-known examples because of being one of the most established. Despite this, the PSA program and many other PES programs do not monitor

Balancing selection on the complement system of a wild rodent

Background: Selection pressure exerted by pathogens can influence patterns of genetic diversity in the host. In the immune system especially, numerous genes encode proteins involved in antagonistic interactions with pathogens, paving the way for coevolution that results in increased genetic diversity as a consequence of balancing selection. The complement system is a key component of innate immuni

Home-based postnatal midwifery care facilitated a smooth succession into motherhood : A Swedish interview study

INTRODUCTION If a family is discharged from a hospital earlier after birth, close supervision by a skilled midwife is essential. The aim was to describe mothers’ overall experience receiving postnatal care in a Swedish home-based midwifery care model. METHODS A descriptive qualitative study was conducted. Mothers meeting the inclusion criteria for a new home-based postnatal care model at a hospita

Endurance-trained subjects and sedentary controls increase ventricular contractility and efficiency during exercise : Feasibility of hemodynamics assessed by non-invasive pressure-volume loops

Introduction Pressure-volume (PV) loops can be used to assess both load-dependent and load-independent measures of cardiac hemodynamics. However, analysis of PV loops during exercise is challenging as it requires invasive measures. Using a novel method, it has been shown that left ventricular (LV) PV loops at rest can be obtained non-invasively from cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and bra

Human Rights in EU Free Trade Agreements with ASEAN States. Expectations and perspectives from Thailand

With an increasing number of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) between the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries as well as a greater EU focus on human rights in supply chains, analysis of recent and emerging agreements is a valuable gauge. This analysis is based on existing EU agreements with Singapore and Vietnam, as well as ongoing negotiations with Tha

Deactivation of implantable defibrillators at the end of life - A register-based study of ICD-deactivation at home and the impact of palliative care

Background: The Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) is a well-established life-saving therapy for heart failure patients, but due to the risk for unnecessary shocks, deactivation of ICD:s is recommended at the end of life. We aimed to identify i) how many people with HF and an ICD who died in Sweden in 2018 received Specialized Palliative Care (SPC), ii) of those dying outside of hospital

HiggsTools : BSM scalar phenomenology with new versions of HiggsBounds and HiggsSignals

The codes HiggsBounds and HiggsSignals compare model predictions of BSM models with extended scalar sectors to searches for additional scalars and to measurements of the detected Higgs boson at 125GeV. We present a unification and extension of the functionalities provided by both codes into the new HiggsTools framework. The codes have been re-written in modern C++ with native Python and Mathematic

Long-term Risks of Depression and Suicide Among Men with Prostate Cancer : A National Cohort Study

Background: A diagnosis of prostate cancer (PC) may cause psychosocial distress that worsens quality of life; however, long-term mental health outcomes are unclear. Objective: To determine the long-term risks of major depression and death by suicide in a large population-based cohort. Design, setting, and participants: This was a national cohort study of 180 189 men diagnosed with PC during 1998–2

HLA Class I Genotype Is Associated with Relapse Risk after Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for NPM1-Mutated Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Mutation-bearing peptide ligands from mutated nucleophosmin-1 (NPM1) protein have been empirically found to be presented by HLA class I in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We hypothesized that HLA genotype may impact allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT) outcomes in NPM1-mutated AML owing to differences in antigen presentation. We evaluated the effect of the variable of predic

Introduction to a Research Agenda for Sustainable Cities and Communities

How can cities and communities around the world become more sustainable? What can we do as researchers to help them? As we move through the twenty-first century, these questions assume ever-greater importance. Many of the quickest wins for human and planetary health involve reimagining and reconfiguring cities. Activities that generate negative impacts like air pollution and poor health are concen

Gendering the Far-Right Continuum in Europe

This chapter provides a succinct overview of the rapidly developing field of scholarship on far-right manifestations across Europe from a gendered perspective. Its starting point is to acknowledge that gender plays a crucial role in grasping the ideological underpinnings and the modus operandi of the various entities, which are generally associated with the larger field of socio-political manifest

Detection of Short Supraventricular Tachycardias in Single-lead ECGs Recorded Using a Handheld Device

Short supraventricular tachycardias (S-SVTs) have been associated with a higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF). Hence, identification of participants with such arrhythmias may increase the yield of AF screening. However, the lower signal quality of ECGs recorded using handheld screening devices challenges the detection of S-SVT. In the present work, a new method for detection of S-SVT

Xylem Water Filtration

This project explored the usage and effectiveness of a natural water filtration system using xylem from Picea Abies, or Norway Spruce. The project is concentrated on the region of southeast and south Asia where people suffer from water contamination, providing a concept of a water filter with comprehensive protection against waterborne diseases. The study implemented secondary research on product

Spänningen mellan positiv representation i Heartstopper (2022) och kollektiv queer sorg: En analys av intergenerationella queera känslor med utgångspunkt i queer temporalitet

The Netflix series Heartstopper (2022) has been praised for its lighthearted and positive queer representation, however, among adult LGBTQIA+ individuals the series has created a sense of sadness. The aim of this thesis is to examine narratives presented in reviews of Heartstopper in relation to queer temporalities and collective feelings. With this study I answer questions of how we can understan

Molecular Flexibility of Antibodies Preserved even in the Dense Phase after Macroscopic Phase Separation

Antibody therapies are typically based on high-concentration formulations that need to be administered subcutaneously. These conditions induce several challenges, inter alia a viscosity suitable for injection, sufficient solution stability, and preservation of molecular function. To obtain systematic insights into the molecular factors, we study the dynamics on the molecular level under strongly v

By late April indexes were similar.

A phylogenomic perspective on the relationships of subfamilies in the family Geometridae (Lepidoptera)

Geometrid moths, the second largest radiation of Lepidoptera, have been the target of extensive phylogenetic studies. Those studies have flagged several problems in tree topology that have remained unanswered. We address three of those: (i) deep nodes of Geometridae (subfamilies Sterrhinae + Larentiinae, or Sterrhinae alone as sister to all other subfamilies), (ii) the taxonomic status of subfamil
