Searching for voltage graph-based LDPC tailbiting codes with large girth
The relation between parity-check matrices of quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and biadjacency matrices of bipartite graphs supports searching for powerful LDPC block codes. Using the principle of tailbiting, compact representations of bipartite graphs based on convolutional codes can be found. Bounds on the girth and the minimum distance of LDPC block codes constructed in
Sexual health in Rheumatoid Arthritis - a physiotherapeutic approach
Sjukdomen är kronisk och behandlas med antireumatiska läkemedel samt kompletterande teambaserad behaThe overall aim of this thesis was to study how persons experience the influence of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) on their sexual health and their experiences of communication about sexual health, in order to improve physiotherapy within the field of rheumatology. Sexual health is an integrated part of life, and persons with Rheumatoid Arthritis, RA, often experience a decreased sexual health, which c
Multi-scale simulation of paperboard edge wicking using a fiber-resolving virtual paper model
When liquid packaging board is made aseptic in the filling machine, the unsealed edges of the board are exposed to hydrogen peroxide. A high level of liquid penetration may lead to aesthetic as well as functional defects. The ability to make a priori predictions about the edge wicking properties of a certain paperboard material is therefore of great interest to the paper industry, as well as to pa
Deep sequencing and SNP array analyses of pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia reveal NOTCH1 mutations in minor subclones and a high incidence of uniparental isodisomies affecting CDKN2A.
Pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a genetically heterogeneous disease that arises in a multistep fashion through acquisition of several genetic aberrations, subsequently giving rise to a malignant, clonal expansion of T-lymphoblasts. The aim of the present study was to identify additional as well as cooperative genetic events in T-ALL.

Model-based detection of heart rate turbulence.
In this study, the integral pulse frequency modulation model is extended to account for the presence of ectopic beats and heart rate turbulence (HRT). Based on this model, a new statistical approach to the detection and characterization of HRT is presented. The detector structure involves a set of Karhunen-LoEve basis functions and a generalized likelihood ratio test statistic T(x) . The three mos
Satellite line mapping in Eu3+-Ce3+ and Pr3+-Ce3+ codoped Y2SiO5
In this work we perform a high-resolution spectroscopic investigation of Eu3+-Ce3+ and Pr3+-Ce3+ codoped Y2SiO5 crystals. Satellite line spectra were recorded at low temperatures around the Eu3+:F-7(0) -> D-5(0) and the Pr3+:H-3(4) -> D-1(2) transitions. It is observed that the incorporation of Ce3+ as a codopant notably changes the Eu3+ and Pr3+ satellite line patterns. Satellite lines measured i
Why Do Cuckolded Males Provide Paternal Care?
In most species, males do not abandon offspring or reduce paternal care when they are cuckolded by other males. This apparent lack of adjustment of paternal investment with the likelihood of paternity presents a potential challenge to our understanding of what drives selection for paternal care. In a comparative analysis across birds, fish, mammals, and insects we identify key factors that explain
Development of heart block in SSA/SSB autoantibody-positive pregnancies is associated with maternal age and display a season-of-birth pattern

Fires can be an important hazard for the overall safe operation of nuclear power plants. Prevention of fire, fast detection and efficient extinguishment of a fire are some parameters, which are important to consider when designing the fire safety in a nuclear power plant. As an alternative to extinguishment system the use of hypoxic air or hypoxic air venting has been introduced e.g. in storage ro
Thermodynamically based fictitious crack/interface model for general normal and shear loading
For small deformations a crack/interface model that considers general 3D normal and shear loading is proposed. It involves elasticity, plasticity and damage and it is thermodynamically based. An essential feature of the model is its consistency with the concepts behind the fictitious crack model. In particular, no crack deformation occurs before the crack is initiated and when a crack has just bee
Tracking Performance of Several Combinations of Common Evaluation Metrics and Sub-pixel Methods
Motion estimation in a series of consecutive images is used in a variety of areas, e.g. video compression and investigation of tissue characteristics and organ function in medical images. Several methods exist both for estimating motions on a pixel level, e.g. block-matching in which two blocks in consecutive images are compared by an evaluation metric, and on a sub-pixel level. In this paper, we
Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy after Cardiac Surgery. Sternal Stability, Cost of Care, Learning Curve and Hemodynamic Outcome
Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) following cardiothoracic surgery is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication with high morbidity and mortality. DSWI is associated with a significant increase in the length of hospital stay and the cost of hospitalization. The socioeconomic impact of DSWI is considerable. Conventional treatment includes reexploration, surgical debridement, mediastin
Socio-Technical Toolbox for Business Analysis in practice
Socio-technical methods advocate a human-focus analysis that reflects on social and technical factors in the design of organizational systems. The aim of this paper is to report on the experiences of a ST toolbox use in practice by 36 companies. Our findings show that the use of ST toolbox improves companies’ understanding of their job practices and enhance their learning about their business sust
Modeling regional to global CH4 emissions of boreal and arctic wetlands
Methane (CH4) emission from boreal, arctic and subarctic wetlands constitutes a potentially positive feedback to global climate warming. Many process-based models have been developed, but high uncertainties remain in estimating the amount of CH4 released from wetlands at the global scale. This study tries to improve estimates of CH4 emissions by up-scaling a wetland CH4 emission model, PEATLAND-VU

This article is devoted to introduce a new class of nonassociative algebras with involution including the class of structurable algebras.
Novel insights into the role of serotonin in control of β-cell fuction
Typ 2 diabetes, tidigare ofta benämnd ”åldersdiabetes” Inadequate insulin secretion is a central component in the development of Diabetes Mellitus, resulting from reduced pancreatic β-cell mass, as well as diminished β-cell function. Islet produced 5-hydroxy tryptamine (5-HT) is suggested to regulate insulin secretion and β-cell mass in rodents during pregnancy and in metabolically challenged states. However, the role of 5-HT in control of insulin rel

Serine/arginine protein-specific kinase 2 promotes leukemia cell proliferation by phosphorylating acinus and regulating cyclin A1
Serine/arginine (SR) protein-specific kinase (SRPK), a family of cell cycle-regulated protein kinases, phosphorylate SR domain-containing proteins in nuclear speckles and mediate the pre-mRNA splicing. However, the physiologic roles of this event in cell cycle are incompletely understood. Here, we show that SRPK2 binds and phosphorylates acinus, an SR protein essential for RNA splicing, and redist
