Exhaust emissions in residential areas with different street network configurations

The differences in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions for residential areas with different street network designs were investigated. Five areas with three different designs, including a traditional grid network and designs feeding the traffic in from a surrounding street and from a centrally located street, were considered. Differences in total fuel consumption and amount of exhaust emissions

Scattering from frequency selective surfaces: an efficient set of V-dipole basis functions

In this paper, a novel set of V-dipole basis functions is introduced. These basis functions are used to approximate the induced surface current density on an infinite, plane frequency selective surface (FSS). The elements of the FSS are supposed to consist of straight sections and bends. Two groups of elements which the present V-dipole basis functions can be applied to are identified, namely, the

Performance evaluation of impulse radio UWB systems with pulse-based polarity randomization

In this paper, the performance of a binary phase shift keyed random time-hopping impulse radio system with pulse-based polarity randomization is analyzed. The effects of interframe interference and multiple-access interference on the performance of a generic Rake receiver are investigated for asynchronous systems in frequency-selective environments. A key step is to model the asynchronous system a

The influence of non-dissipative quantities in kinematic hardening plasticity

A kinematic hardening plasticity model valid for finite strains is presented. The model is based on the well-known multiplicative split of the deformation gradient into elastic and plastic parts. The basic ingredient in the formulation is the introduction of a locally defined configuration-a centre configuration-which is associated with a deformation gradient that is used to characterize the kinem

Experimental vitreoretinal surgery in the rabbit eye - electrophysiology and morphology

A continuous refinement of surgical methods and instruments has increased the number of treatable retinal disorders. Vitrectomy, retinectomy and laser treatment are all part of the modern surgical arsenal. In order to further develop and refine these methods, and also to improve the knowledge of the mechanisms behind th

Estimation and prediction for stochastic blockstructures

A statistical approach to a posteriori blockmodeling for digraphs and valued digraphs is proposed. The probability model assumes that the vertices of the digraph are partitioned into several unobserved (latent) classes and that the probability distribution of the relation between two vertices depends only on the classes to which they belong. A Bayesian estimator based on Gibbs sampling is proposed

Nonlinear Control Synthesis by Convex Optimization

A stability criterion for nonlinear systems, recently derived by thethird author, can be viewed as a dual to Lyapunov's second theorem. The criterion is stated in terms of a function which can beinterpreted as the stationary density of a substance that is generatedall over the state space and flows along the system trajectoriestowards the equilibrium. The new criterion has a remarkable convexity pro

The ScanHip total hip arthroplasty: radiographic assessment of 72 hips after 10 years.

We analyzed the radiographic and clinical outcome of the ScanHip total hip arthroplasty in 70 patients after 10 years. The Swedish National Hip Register, in which the end-point of the survival analysis is defined as revisions, reported a 10-year survival rate of 94% with the ScanHip, but in the present series 13% of the femoral stems and 29% of the sockets met the criteria for aseptic loosening. F

Time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence measurements of Rydberg states in LuI and comparison with theory

Time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence measurements have been performed for ten odd Rydberg states of neutral lutetium, belonging to the 6s(2)(S-1)np(n = 8-9) and 6 s(2)(S-1)nf (n = 5-8) series. For 6S(2)(S-1)8p and 6s(2)(S-1)7f, the experimental lifetimes corresponding to the two J values within the doublet differ substantially. Comparison with theoretical values, calculated with extensive conf
