Educating the next generation decision makers - the multi-disciplinary classroom as a platform for developing communication skills needed for future progress of adaptation measures

The scientific knowledge of climate change processes and their worrying future implications for human societies and natural systems has developed considerably during the last decade, but necessary adaptive actions by decision makers have so far been rather limited. There are several causes to this, such as a discrepancy related to the communication between climate scientists and end-users, and the

Comparing housing co-operatives in Sweden and condominiums in Hong Kong

Whilst the universal growth of home ownership in most advanced industrial countries attracts much attention in housing studies, owner occupation in multi-family housing, which is a dominant form of home ownership in many large cities particularly in Asia, is largely underresearched. In fact, such tenure form is arguably more complicated in terms of the social relation in housing as well as having

Semantic Games for Algorithmic Players

We describe a class of semantic extensive entailment game (eeg) with algorithmic players, related to game-theoretic semantics (gts), and generalized to classical first-order semantic entailment. Players have preferences for parsimonious spending of computational resources, and compute partial strategies, under qualitative uncertainty about future histories. We prove the existence of local preferen

Statistical Predictive Design Analysis in an Internet Environment

During recent years the increasing power of computers and communications has led to the use of more advanced analysis approaches within the mechanical engineering design process, or design process for short. Predictive Design Analysis (PDA), see [1], is an approach in which the final behavior of a product is predicted by combining information from different analysis techniques. This paper presents

Characteristics of Self-Injury in Young Adolescents : Findings from Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Studies in Swedish Schools

Kunskap om omfaSelf-injury in adolescents (e.g. when individuals cut, burn, hit or otherwise deliberately cause themselves direct injury), has gained recognition as a potentially important mental health problem during the past decade. Relatively little has been known about the scope and characteristics of this behavior in Swedish adolescents. This thesis consists of three studies that in different ways explore

The new target chamber at LIPSION: The new translation stage and goniometer and the new irradiation platform for single cell experiments

A new target chamber as well as a new 7-axes translation stage with goniometer will shortly be implemented at the LIPSION nanoprobe in Leipzig. This new stage should enable linear motion as well as rotary motion with high precision, positioning accuracy and repeatability. These different features have been investigated online as well as offline, with encouraging results. Along with the new equipme
