Differential expression of cerebrospinal fluid neuroinflammatory mediators depending on osteoarthritis pain phenotype
ABSTRACT: Neuroinflammation is implicated in the development and maintenance of persistent pain states, but there are limited data linking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) inflammatory mediators with neurophysiological pain processes in humans. In a prospective observational study, CSF inflammatory mediators were compared between patients with osteoarthritis (OA) who were undergoing total hip arthroplast

Adaptive discontinuous galerkin methods for flow in porous media
We present an adaptive Discontinuous Galerkin discretization for the solution of porous media flow problems. The considered flows are immiscible and incompressible. The fully adaptive approach implemented allows for refinement and coarsening in both the element size, the polynomial degree and the time step size.

Neighborhood environmental factors and physical activity status among rural older adults in Japan
(1) Background: Although several neighborhood environmental factors have been identified to be associated with older adults’ physical activity, little research has been done in rural areas where the population is aging. This study aimed to investigate neighborhood environmental factors and the longitudinal change of physical activity status among rural older adults in Japan. (2) Meth-ods: The stud
Assemblages in the Venetian Lagoon : Humans, Water and Multiple Historical Flows
Since the dawn of its existence, and at times thanks to ambitious interventions, Venice and its lagoon have needed to be constantly protected from the various ways in which water has reclaimed its existence. This article asserts that the ways in which Venice approached the watery world imply a tendency to relate to the natural environment as if it was something humans ought to separate themselves
A Type-II Phase-Tracking Receiver
We present a new analog-to-digital converter (ADC)-based architecture of a phase-tracking receiver (PT-RX) optimized for ultra-low-power (ULP) and ultra-low-voltage (ULV) operations for the Internet of Things (IoT). The RX employs a type-II loop configuration that offers improved stability compared with the previous type-I PT-RX solutions. In addition, the type-II loop is also very tolerant of lon
Integrating the influence of weather into mechanistic models of butterfly movement
Background: Understanding the factors influencing movement is essential to forecasting species persistence in a changing environment. Movement is often studied using mechanistic models, extrapolating short-term observations of individuals to longer-term predictions, but the role of weather variables such as air temperature and solar radiation, key determinants of ectotherm activity, are generally

European Communion and Planetary Organic Crisis
The most common way of theorising the European Union’s crises is to see them as, at best, a run of ‘bad luck’, or at worst as ‘multiple challenges’. This chapter brings two very different perspectives to the study of the European Union (EU) and its crises by theorising European (dis)integration using the Critical Social Theory (CST) of ‘European communion’ (Manners, 2013a) within the context of ‘p

Svenskt bokmuseum : "Till intet gagn"
Svenskt bokindustrimuseum initierades av Waldemar Zachrisson vid sekelskiftet 1900 och var kopplat till Svenska Boktryckareföreningen. Artikeln är den andra i en serie som behandlar museets historia.
A thermodynamically consistent modelling framework for strongly time-dependent bainitic phase transitions
In this work, a thermodynamically consistent constitutive framework is introduced that is capable of reproducing the significant time-dependent behaviour of austenite-to-bainite phase transformations. In particular, the aim is to incorporate the effect of these diffusion-controlled processes by plasticity-like evolution equations instead of incorporating related global diffusion equations. To this
