Driving under the Influence Strategic Trade Policy and Market Integration in the European Car Industry

Den skildrar politikens utvecklinState policy intervention in the economy has been a ubiquitous phenomenon in history. Varying in form and intensity, it has had a profound impact on trade, welfare, international relations, and political and economic thinking. This thesis provides an inclusive analysis of policy action in the European car industry. It details its development, processes, nature, and content and presents the story a

A comparative study of ordinary and mineralised Portland cement clinker from two different production units Part I: Composition and hydration of the clinkers

Portland cement clinkers from two production units were investigated; Plant 1: ordinary clinker (P1) and clinker mineralised with CaF2+CaSO4 (P1m); Plant 2: ordinary clinker (P2) and two clinkers mineralised with CaF2+CaSO4 (P2m, low SO3 and P2m', high SO3). The chemical composition of the clinkers was determined by X-ray fluorescence, ICP analysis, titration (free lime) and ion selective electrod

Tolerable Fire Risk Criteria for Hospitals

The aim of this study was to establish tolerable fire risk criteria for hospitals. The event tree technique was used to assess the safety level in a model hospital building. Risk profiles were derived and tolerable criteria established by evaluating the risk. The motivation behind this methodology is that buildings designed completely in accordance with today’s regulations must be considered safe

The influence of the city on the water environment on river basin scale is discussed with mainly the Höje River as an example. The city significantly influence the phosphorous and heavy metal conditions if the city is larger than about 100 000 people in an agricultural river basin smaller than 300 km2.

Phase behavior of DOPE/TritonX100 (reduced) in dilute aqueous solution: aggregate structure and pH-dependence

The phase behavior of dilute mixtures of dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) and reduced TritonX100 (TX100(r)) has been investigated at pH 7.4 and 10. Using simple turbidity measurements and optical observations, together with cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), we estimate the phase boundaries. We show that at both pH 7.4 and 10, a very large amount of surfactant is needed for t

The Epistle of Jude : Its Text and Transmission

Popular Abstract in Swedish Avhandlingen behandlar det nytestamentliga Judasbrevets texthistoria. Det handlar främsThis study treats the textual tradition of the Epistle of Jude. After an introductory survey of earlier text-critical research, the two main purposes of this investigation are formulated: to gather and to analyze the complete textual evidence of the Epistle of Jude. The first task, to gather the evidence, involves the collation of all Greek continuous text MSS of the Epistle of Jude. The evidence

ATPase activity associated with the magnesium chelatase H-subunit of the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway is an artefact

Magnesium chelatase inserts Mg2+ into protoporphyrin IX and is the first unique enzyme of the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway. It is a heterotrimeric enzyme, composed of I- (40 kDa), D- (70 kDa) and H- (140 kDa) subunits. The I- and D-proteins belong to the family of AAA(+) (ATPases associated with various cellular activities), but only I-subunit hydrolyses ATP to ADP. The D-subunits provide a pl

The use of analgesics and hypnotics in relation to self-rated health and disability pension - A prospective study of middle-aged men

Aims: This cohort study on urban middle-aged men investigates the association between the use of analgesics and hypnotics, self-rated health (SRI-I) and disability pension. Methods: Five birth-year cohorts of middle-aged, urban, Swedish men were invited to a screening programme and were followed for approximately 11 years. Results: Out of all the subjects (n = 5798), 12.4% received a disability pe

Pollen-stratigraphical evidence of Holocene hydrological change in northern Fennoscandia supported by independent isotopic data

Pollen records from 21 sites were used to reconstruct Holocene hydrological changes in northern Fennoscandia. The inferred dominance of maritime-type Betula-forests from c. 9600 BP onwards indicate an oceanic climate in the region during the early Holocene, with high amounts of precipitation and low seasonal contrasts. This interpretation is supported by oxygen isotope records obtained on lacustri

Mediating Asymmetrical Conflict

This article examines the characteristics of asymmetrical conflicts and obstacles to negotiation and mediation. Four barriers are elaborated upon: (a) enduring unilateral actions, (b) contested recognition and leadership status, (c) existential and identity-based framing of conflict and (d) conflicting interpretation of implementation. Consequently, intervention in asymmetric conflicts poses a tre

Spin Hall conductivity of a disordered two-dimensional electron gas with Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction

The spin Hall conductivity of a disordered two-dimensional electron gas has been investigated for a general spin-orbit interaction. We have found that in the diffusive regime of electron transport, the dc spin-Hall conductivity of a homogeneous system is zero due to impurity scattering when the spin-orbit coupling contains only the Rashba interaction, in agreement with existing results. However, w

Potential cardioembolic sources in an elderly population without stroke. A transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiographic study in randomly selected volunteers

Transoesophageal echocardiography renders a better image than transthoracic echocardiography of cardiac changes especially at the atrial level, and of atherosclerotic changes in the aorta. Although several studies on stroke patients have included transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, the relevance of the reported findings remains unclear because of limited information on the prevale

More Content in the Institutional Repository

Lund University has no policies on electronic publishing or self-archiving. Neither does the university require any kind of annual standardized or centralized publication lists from faculties or departments. Electronic publishing and self-archiving is a very decentralized affair where departments or divisions make their own decisions. To increase the use of LU:research, the central university arch

Relation between lung function, exercise capacity, and exposure to asbestos cement

A group of 137 male workers with known exposure (mean 20 fibre years per millilitre) to asbestos cement who had symptoms or signs of pulmonary disease was studied together with a reference group of 49 healthy industrial workers with no exposure to asbestos. Lung function measurements were made at rest and during exercise. Evidence of lung fibrosis was found as well as of obstructive airways diseas

The nature of ultraviolet spectra of AG Pegasi and other symbiotic stars: locations, origins, and excitation mechanisms of emission lines

A detailed study of ultraviolet spectra of the symbiotic star AG Peg has been undertaken to derive the atomic excitation mechanisms and origin of formation for the lines common in symbiotic systems. More than 600 emission lines are observed in spectra from IUE, HST and FUSE of which 585 are identified. Population mechanisms and origin of formation are given for a majority of those lines. Based on

Voltage-gated and resting membrane currents recorded from B-cells in intact mouse pancreatic islets

1. The perforated patch whole-cell configuration of the patch-clamp technique was applied to superficial cells in intact pancreatic islets. Immunostaining in combination with confocal microscopy revealed that the superficial cells consisted of 35 % insulin-secreting B-cells and 65 % non-B-cells (A- and D-cells). 2. Two types of cell, with distinct electrophysiological properties, could be function
