Stem cell fate regulation: computational modeling in the hematopoietic system

The ability to sense the surrounding environment and respond to external fluctuations is a fundamental property of cells, the basic unit of life. Although cells can be very different in their composition and structure, they all have specialized molecular mechanisms that allow them to adapt to their environment, by coordinating gene expression and protein production. In this thesis, we focus on a s

European Anti-Catholicism in a Comparative and Transnational Perspective, 1750-2000

International research has emphasised the importance of anti-Catholicism for the processes of identity formation across Europe, both for established Protestant Churches and for national liberal movements. The connection between anti-Catholicism and other ‘anti’ movements such as antisemitism, anti-feminism, and anti-socialism has also been pointed out. Much like these movements, anti-Catholicism w

ERP Systems Diffusion among SMEs: Does Development of Open Source ERPs Play a Role

There is an increasing interest in open source, which also goes for enterprise resource planning (ERPs) systems, especially when it comes for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). In this article, the focus is on the combination of open source and ERPs, and specifically on what role development of open source ERPs plays in diffusion of ERPs among SMEs. In an effort to be able to explain the i

Erection of in-situ cast concrete frameworks - model development and simulation of construction activities

The erection process of in-situ cast concrete frameworks in multi-storey housing involves a wide range of non-value adding activities, resulting in poor process efficiency. This paper describes the process and presents a model for discrete-event simulation of activities and resource use involved in the construction of in-situ cast concrete frameworks. The model simulates the work flow which is sub

Quantization noise modeling in low-delay speech coding

We present a low-delay vector predictive transform coder with quantization noise modeling. The coder uses overlapped transform coding and a Kalman filter with a backward estimated LPC model of the speech signal combined with an additive noise model of the quantization noise. The noise model is driven by the vector quantizer. Each quantizer cell has its own error correlation matrix, which is kept i

Default Probabilities According to the Bond Market

In this paper we describe a simple way of analytically computing entire ìterm structures of default probabilities using information embedded in the corporate bond market data. This market-based approach of estimating the creditworthiness of firms gives probabilities of default at various maturities, and has the advantage over traditional credit ratings in that it is dynamic and forward looking.

Hemophilia A and B with special reference to prevention and treatment of arthropathy

Det finns två typer av blödarsjuka, hemofili A respektiveIn patients with severe hemophilia it is today possible to prevent the development of arthropathy by giving effective continuous prophylaxis from an early age, thus preventing the VIII:C or IX:C concentration from falling below 1% of normal. All the signs show that if a high-dose prophylactic regimen - that is, 3,000-5,000 U/kg body weight annually - is started as early as 1-2 years of age, the pa

60 GHz Wavelet Generator for Impulse Radio Applications

A wavelet generator producing 100 ps short pulses at 60 GHz is presented. The wavelet generator consists of a gated tunnel diode (GTD) integrated in parallel with an inductor. This forms a negative differential conductance (NDC) oscillator with the ability to switch the NDC property on and off, which makes it possible to generate short pulses. In the experiments described, the wavelet generator dr
