Community Energy in the Eastern Baltic Sea Region: From Standstill to First Steps
This chapter aims to explore community energy (CE)—energy communities that are established and run by private citizens—in four Eastern European countries. The chapter first analyses general contextual conditions supporting the diffusion of CE initiatives in the Baltic Sea Region. Subsequently, it reports the findings of four case studies from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland illustrating som
PR interval prolongation and 1-year mortality among emergency department patients : A multicentre transnational cohort study
Objectives Emerging evidence supports that PR interval prolongation is associated with increased mortality. However, most previous studies have limited confounder control, and clinical impact in a population of acute ill patients is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate whether 1-year all-cause mortality was increased in patients presenting with PR interval prolongation in the emergenc
Rate and characteristics of infection after transrectal prostate biopsy : a retrospective observational study
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of infection after transrectal prostate biopsy (TRbx). Secondary objectives were to describe infection characteristics, antibiotic resistance patterns, ICD-10 coding, and costs. Methods: TRbx carried out at the hospitals of Ängelholm and Helsingborg, Scania, Sweden, between October 2017 and March 2019, were identified based on the NOMES
Simplified Larsen erosion score (SLES) for estimating joint damage in early rheumatoid arthritis in clinical practice
Using the modis sensor for snow cover modeling and the assessment of drought effects on snow cover in a mountainous area
Snow is one of the essential factors in hydrology, freshwater resources, irrigation, travel, pastimes, floods, avalanches, and vegetation. In this study, the snow cover of the northern and southern slopes of Alborz Mountains in Iran was investigated by considering two issues: (1) Estimating the snow cover area and the (2) effects of droughts on snow cover. The snow cover data were monitored by ima
Developing hybrid time series and artificial intelligence models for estimating air temperatures
Air temperature is a vital meteorological variable required in many applications, such as agricultural and soil sciences, meteorological and climatological studies, etc. Given the importance of this variable, this study seeks to estimate minimum (Tmin), maximum (Tmax), and mean (T) air temperatures by applying a linear autoregressive (AR) time series model and then developing a hybrid model by mea
Diagnostik och behandling av fimos hos pojkar kan delegeras
Phimosis in boys is a common condition. In the majority of cases it is physiological without symptoms. Symptomatic phimosis can often be treated successfully with local steroid cream - only a minority of patients need surgery. This study concludes that diagnosis, information to patients and guardians, initiation and follow-up of local steroid treatment can successfully, and safely, be delegated to
Modeling of electric power system in electric vehicles
The market for partly or fully electrified vehicles is expanding fast. The number of sources and loads that are connected to the vehicles traction voltage systems (TVS) increase and thus also the EMC requirements on these sources and loads. These requirements should make sure that neither function nor lifetime of any source or load is severely affected by another. The EMC requirements include both
Go to hell : Some reflections on the role of intuition and analysis in artistic research
Vocabulary learning from watching YouTubevideos and reading blog posts
This study compared second languagevocabulary acquisition from engagement with two different online media: written blog posts and video blogs. It also explored whether there were differences betweenwhich aspects of vocabulary knowledge(i.e., orthography, semantics, and grammatical function) were best learned from these media. The results showed that incidental vocabulary learning occurred in appro
Observation of a K̄ NN bound state in the He 3 (K-, Λp)n reaction OBSERVATION of A K̄ NN BOUND STATE ... T. YAMAGA et al.
We have performed an exclusive measurement of the K-+He3→Λpn reaction at an incident kaon momentum of 1GeV/c. In the Λp invariant mass spectrum, a clear peak was observed below the mass threshold of K̄+N+N, as a signal of the kaonic nuclear bound state, K̄NN. The binding energy, decay width, and S-wave Gaussian reaction form factor of this state were observed to be BK=42±3(stat.)-4+3(syst.)MeV, ΓK
The biophysical climate mitigation potential of boreal peatlands during the growing season
Peatlands and forests cover large areas of the boreal biome and are critical for global climate regulation. They also regulate regional climate through heat and water vapour exchange with the atmosphere. Understanding how land-atmosphere interactions in peatlands differ from forests may therefore be crucial for modelling boreal climate system dynamics and for assessing climate benefits of peatland
Structural biology of calcium phosphate nanoclusters sequestered by phosphoproteins
Biofluids that contain stable calcium phosphate nanoclusters sequestered by phosphopeptides make it possible for soft and hard tissues to co-exist in the same organism with relative ease. The stability diagram of a solution of nanocluster complexes shows how the minimum concentration of phosphopeptide needed for stability increases with pH. In the stable region, amorphous calcium phosphate cannot
Proteins in deep eutectic solvents : Structure, dynamics and interactions with the solvent
The structure and dynamics of proteins in solution are closely related to their activity and, ultimately, to their performance in products and technologies, for example, drug formulations and enzymatic catalysis. With this in mind, the study of the fundamental behavior of proteins in deep eutectic solvents not only provides insight into a novel alternative to aqueous and molecular organic solvents
Comparative cytological and histological assessment of 828 primary soft tissue and bone lesions, and proposal for a system for reporting soft tissue cytopathology
Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology and core needle biopsies (CNBs) in a series of primary soft tissue and bone lesions and to test a possible system for reporting results of FNA cytology of soft tissue lesion. Methods: This retrospective study encompassed 828 primary soft tissue and bone lesions, analysed with FNA, CNB
The agricultural and industrial revolutions in England and China : A view through the lens of dynamic property rights theory
This article presents a dynamic land property rights theory based on the law of the limit to land productivity, and then uses this theory and a large amount of data to compare the history of the agricultural and industrial revolutions in England and China. The article finds that, in England, the arable land-especially sown land-per capita of the agricultural population trended downward before the
Quick detection method for paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) monitoring in freshwater : A review
The objective of this critical review was to provide a comprehensive summary of paralytic shellfish toxins(PSTs) producing species and knowledge gaps in detecting PSTs in drinking water resources, with a focuson recent development of PSTs monitoring methods and tools for drinking water monitoring. PSTs, whichare also called Saxitoxins (STXs), are a group of neurotoxins not only produced by marine
Oral contraceptive use and risk of suicidal behavior among young women
Background. Oral contraceptive use has been previously associated with an increased risk of suicidal behavior in some, but not all, samples. The use of large, representative, longitudinally-assessed samples may clarify the nature of this potential association. Methods. We used Swedish national registries to identify women born between 1991 and 1995 (N = 216 702) and determine whether they retrieve
Artificial intelligence-based detection of lymph node metastases by PET/CT predicts prostate cancer-specific survival
Introduction: Lymph node metastases are a key prognostic factor in prostate cancer (PCa), but detecting lymph node lesions from PET/CT images is a subjective process resulting in inter-reader variability. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods can provide an objective image analysis. We aimed at developing and validating an AI-based tool for detection of lymph node lesions. Methods: A group of
