Film Formation from Dispersions - Preparation and Mechanisms

Improved environmental consciousness and harsh legislation concerning volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the 1980s led to an increase in the development in the field of polymer colloids. Solvent born coatings were replaced by polymer dispersions in aqueous solution, so called latex dispersions. As a consequence, numerous research programs concerning polymerization processes (e.g. emulsion po

A Bicompositional Dirichlet Distribution

The Simplex S^D is the sample space of a D-part composition. There are only a few distributions defined on the Simplex and even fewer defined on the Cartesian product S^D x S^D. Based on the Dirichlet distribution, defined on S^D, we propose a new bicompositional Dirichlet distribution defined on S^D x S^D, and examine some of its properties, such as moments as well as marginal and conditional dis

Joint channel estimation and peak-to-average power reduction in coherent OFDM: a novel approach

A new peak-to-average power reduction approach for OFDM has been addressed. Two-dimensional pilot-symbol assisted modulation (2D-PSAM) is employed in coherent OFDM for channel estimation and it is based on inserting known symbols spreaded out throughout the 2D time-frequency grid. We show that these scattered symbols can also be employed to perform distortionless peak power reduction, with a negli

A 2.4 GHz CMOS power amplifier using internal frequency doubling

A fully integrated 0.18 μm 1P6M CMOS power amplifier using internal frequency doubling is presented. Two chips were measured, one stand-alone PA and one PA with a VCO on the same chip. Since the PA and VCO operate at different frequencies, this configuration is suitable for direct-upconversion or low-IF upconversion since oscillator pulling is reduced. The maximum output power is 15 dBm, and the m

Metabolic engineering and random mutagenesis for improved xylose utilisation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

In this thesis I have summarised my work on the analysis and improvement of xylose utilisation by recombinant S. cerevisiae. A metabolic flux model was developed and used to analyse the intracellular fluxes in the recombinant xylose utilising S. cerevisiae TMB 3001 cultivated in chemostat at various dilution rates and xylose/glucose concentrations. Xylose uptake increased with xylose concentration
