Multiparticle-hole States of High Spin in N
The large body of recently measured energies and electromagnetic properties of high-spin states in the Z = 40-45, N = 46-50 isotopes is consistently accommodated in the shell model using empirical and schematic two-body matrix elements in the (1g(9/2), 2p(1/2)) model space. In particular, we test the purity of seniority, the effects of an enlarged model space (including the 1f(5/2), 2p(3/2) orbits
Modulation of angiogenesis in adult rat brain - effect of aging, stress, environmental enrichment and antidepressant treatment
Neurogenesis and angiogenesis are stimulated by a number of antidepressant treatments, and cellular plasticity has emerged as a phenomenon with great relevance to the etiology and treatment of depression. In paper I we characterize how ECS-induced endothelial cell proliferation leads to vascularization of the adult rat hippocampus. In the molecular layer of the hippocampus a series of 10 ECS-treat
The Bremmer series for a multi-dimensional acoustic scattering problem
The Bremmer series is used to reduce a complex scattering problem to a sequence of simpler single-scattering problems. In the Bremmer series, the wave equation is first decomposed into a coupled system of one-way wave equations. The system is then decoupled into a sequence of one-way wave equations with a fixed-point iteration. In this paper, a left-symbol representation of the decomposition opera
Allergic conditions and risk of hematological malignancies in adults: a cohort study
Background: Two contradictory hypotheses have been proposed to explain the relationship between allergic conditions and malignancies, the immune surveillance hypothesis and the antigenic stimulation hypothesis. The former advocates that allergic conditions may be protective against development of cancer, whereas the latter proposes an increased risk. This relationship has been studied in several c

CHEK2*1100delC is not an important high-risk gene in families with hereditary prostate cancer in southern Sweden
Objective. CHEK2* 1100delC is a frame-shifting germ-line mutation which abolishes the function of cell-cycle-checkpoint kinase 2 (chk2) and hence impairs the cells' response to DNA damage. This variant occurs in approximate to 1% of the general Western population but has been reported to be more common among patients with breast and prostate cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the sig
Reorganization of the alternative pathways of the Arabidopsis respiratory chain by nitrogen supply: opposing effects of ammonium and nitrate
The mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation system in plants possesses a variety of alternative pathways that decrease respiratory ATP production. These alternative pathways are mediated by three classes of bypass proteins: the type II NAD(P) H dehydrogenases (which circumvent complex I of the electron transport chain), the alternative oxidases (AOXs; which circumvent complexes III and IV) and the

Association between gross motor function (GMFCS) and manual ability (MACS) in children with cerebral palsy. A population-based study of 359 children
Background: The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) has become an important tool to describe motor function in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). The Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) was developed recently as a corresponding classification of manual ability. The aim of this study was to describe the association between gross motor function and manual ability in a total po

Bland argumenten för medborgarlön återfinns att det antas ge ett erkännande åt obetalt arbete inom hemmet, en mer jämlik fördelning av lönearbete genom att uppmuntra deltidsarbete, leda till minskad ofBasic income - an income granted by the government to each full member of society without means tests or work requirements - has been a widely discussed subject among academics in recent years. However, basic income has not, in most cases, reached the formal political agenda. The main aim of this book is to discuss why this is the case, with Sweden as the focus of the discussion. The aim is also t

The endocannabinoid system drives neural progenitor proliferation
The discovery of multipotent neural progenitor (NP) cells has provided strong support for the existence of neurogenesis in the adult brain. However, the signals controlling NP proliferation remain elusive. Endocannabinoids, the endogenous counterparts of marijuana-derived cannabinoids, act as neuromodulators via presynaptic CB1 receptors and also control neural cell death and survival. Here we sho
Stabilization of Vehicle Formations-A Case Study
This work treats a specific multi-vehicle control case, namely six vehicles on the Multi-Vehicle Wireless Testbed (MTWT), wich is an arena at Caltech, California, built for doing experiments on small vehicles. A model is set up and a controller is found through simulations that stabilizes the system. Stability is proven through a Nyquist-like criterion.

On the inverse scattering approach to the Camassa-Holm equation
A simple algorithm for the inverse scattering approach to the Camassa-Holm equation is presented.
Piecewise Linear Quadratic Optimal Control
The use of piecewise quadratic cost functions is extended from stability analysis of piecewise linear systems to performance analysis and optimal control. Lower bounds on the optimal control cost are obtained by semidefinite programming based on the Bellman inequality. This also gives an approximation to the optimal control law. An upper bound to the optimal cost is obtained by another convex opti
Analysis of the distribution and frequency of trisomy 7 in vivo in synovia from patients with osteoarthritis and pigmented villonodular synovitis
Osteoarthritis (OA) and pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) are disorders associated with trisomy 7. The aim of the present study was to determine the frequency and distribution of the cells with +7 in vivo by analyzing sections of paraffin-embedded synovia from patients affected by OA, PVNS, other forms of synovitis [hemorragic synovitis (HS) and chronic synovitis (CS)], and from individuals
