Working Environment and work retention

The project shows that the working environment is rarely the sole cause of early retirement, but working environment factors may explain a large fraction of the transition to disability pension in particular. Several working environment predictors of early retirement are well-documented in the Nordic countries, but workplace policies and activities to retain older workers rarely aim to improve the

Housing Tenure and Informational Asymmetries

The paradigm shift of focus from rental apartments to owner occupied units on the Swedish property market has led to a substantial number of rental apartments being converted to cooperative apartments. Such conversions typically are done at prices far below market value. This provides a setting with strong financial incentives for tenants involved in such a conversion to take advantage of their in

Nyheter bland svenska stångfibblor

The revision of Pilosella presented by the author in 2001 is here updated with new records and taxa, and recent international advancements in the field are briefly presented and discussed. The taxonomy of the previous revision, based on the "genotypic cluster species concept" of Mallet and the principles that species should be circumscribed as groups of individuals whose intermediates are rare and

Study of ordered hadron chains with the ATLAS detector

The analysis of the momentum difference between charged hadrons in high-energy proton-proton collisions is performed in order to study coherent particle production. The observed correlation pattern agrees with a model of a helical QCD string fragmenting into a chain of ground-state hadrons. A threshold momentum difference in the production of adjacent pairs of charged hadrons is observed, in agree

Measurement of lepton differential distributions and the top quark mass in tt¯ production in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This paper presents single lepton and dilepton kinematic distributions measured in dileptonic tt¯ events produced in 20.2fb - 1 of s=8 TeV pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Both absolute and normalised differential cross-sections are measured, using events with an opposite-charge eμ pair and one or two b-tagged jets. The cross-sections are measured in a fiducial region cor

The contribution of feminist perspectives to climate governance

Feminist analysis focuses on gender relations, thereby it goes beyond a mere focus on women and women’s role in climate governance. While the representation of women in politics and governance is of relevance to such studies, feminist theory makes it possible to also seriously discuss and question the relation between women’s and men’s interests and values in the gender order, and problematize the

Current evidence of oral anticoagulant reversal : A systematic review

Introduction Approximately 4–6% of patients treated with oral anticoagulants (OAC) will suffer from major hemorrhage or be in need of urgent surgery necessitating anticoagulant reversal therapy. Several new oral anticoagulants and reversal agents have been introduced that make it difficult for physicians to stay updated on the current evidence of reversal management. This study aims to review the

Mineral surface-reactive metabolites secreted during fungal decomposition contribute to the formation of soil organic matter

Soil organic matter (SOM) constitutes the largest terrestrial C pool. An emerging, untested, view is that oxidation and depolymerization of SOM by microorganisms promote the formation of SOM-mineral associations that is critical for SOM stabilization. To test this hypothesis, we performed laboratory-scale experiments involving one ectomycorrhizal and one saprotrophic fungus that represent the two

Differential genetic effects of ESR1 gene polymorphisms on osteoporosis outcomes

CONTEXT: Both bone mineral density (BMD) and fracture risk have a strong genetic component. Estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1) is a candidate gene for osteoporosis, but previous studies of ESR1 polymorphisms in this field were hampered by small sample size, lack of standardization, and inconclusive results.OBJECTIVE: To generate large-scale evidence on whether 3 common ESR1 polymorphisms (intron 1 pol

COL1A1 Sp1 polymorphism predicts perimenopausal and early postmenopausal spinal bone loss

Genetic factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis but the genes that determine susceptibility to poor bone health are defined incompletely. Previous work has shown that a polymorphism that affects an Spl binding site in the COLIA1 gene is associated with reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and an increased risk of osteoporotic fracture in several populations. Data from cros

Some preliminary evidence of price discovery in Islamic banks

In this paper using time-series data for a large number of Islamic bank stocks belonging to eight Islamic countries we test for evidence of price discovery. We find that in each of the eight countries there appears a bank that dominates the price discovery process. We then utilize this information on price discovery to form a portfolio of price discovery dominating bank stocks and compare its perf

When speech stops, gesture stops : Evidence from crosslinguistic and developmental comparisons

There is plenty of evidence that speech and gesture form a tightly integrated system, as reflected in parallelisms in language production, comprehension, and development (Kendon, 2004; McNeill, 1992). Yet, it is a common assumption that speakers use gestures to compensate for their expressive difficulties, a notion found in developmental studies of both first and second language acquisition, and i

En kustnära näring navigerar : Styrning och kustnära yrkesfiske i den tjänsteinriktade ekonomin

The traditional industry of inshore commercial fisheries is in a state of transformation, which manifests itself in the fisheries management, in harbors and within the community of fishermen. With the help of discourse theory and the concept of positioning, an ethnographic material of docu ments, observations, interviews and news articles generated between 20112015 is analyzed. The aim is to exp

Radiolar eyes of serpulid worms (Annelida, serpulidae) : Structures, function, and phototransduction

Fan worms, represented by sabellid and serpulid polychaetes, have an astonishing array of unusual eyes and photoreceptors located on their eponymous feeding appendages. Here we organize the previous descriptions of these eyes in serpulids and report new anatomical, molecular, and physiological data regarding their structure, function, and evolution and the likely identity of their phototransductio

Association of the Pro12Ala and C1431T variants of PPARG and their haplotypes with susceptibility to Type 2 diabetes

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: The Pro12Ala polymorphism of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)gamma has been consistently associated with Type 2 diabetes. The rare Ala12 variant is estimated to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 20 percent. This variant is in linkage disequilibrium with another common variant, T1431. Both have opposing associations with body weight. We therefore exa
