Measurement of the top quark charge in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the top quark electric charge is carried out in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using 2.05 fb(-1) of data at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV. In units of the elementary electric charge, the top quark charge is determined to be 0.64 +/- 0.02 (stat.) +/- 0.08 (syst.) from the charges of the top quark decay products in single lepton t (t) over bar candidate events.

Incidence, mortality rates and causes of deaths in haemophilia patients in Sweden.

Sweden has been a pioneer in the treatment of haemophilia, with the first concentrate available in the 1950s. Treatment has improved over the years to its current state-of-the art. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the long-term outcome of haemophilia in terms of incidence, morbidity and mortality. Patients diagnosed with haemophilia A or B registered at the national haemophilia centres

The risks of nation branding as crisis response: A case study of how the Danish government turned the Cartoon Crisis into a struggle with Globalization

In this article, we investigate the limitations of organization-centric models for crisis communication in handling place crises. Two distinct types of place crisis are identified as what we respectively term the ‘sudden’ and the ‘ongoing’ type. We point out that place branding traditionally has been used to handle the latter type. We then demonstrate how the inspiration from corporate communicati

The C-Terminal Sequence of Several Human Serine Proteases Encodes Host Defense Functions.

Serine proteases of the S1 family have maintained a common structure over an evolutionary span of more than one billion years, and evolved a variety of substrate specificities and diverse biological roles, involving digestion and degradation, blood clotting, fibrinolysis and epithelial homeostasis. We here show that a wide range of C-terminal peptide sequences of serine proteases, particularly fro

DPP-4 inhibition and islet function

During recent years, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibition has been included in the clinical management of type 2 diabetes, both as monotherapy and as add-on to several other therapies. DPP-4 inhibition prevents the inactivation of the incretin hormones, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). This results in stimulation of insulin secretion and

What the Hell is a High Standard? The Swedish Employers’ Confederation and the Six-Hour Workday debate in the mid 1970s

A concept that lies at the heart of political rhetoric is that of ‘workfare’. The issue, however, is what types of arguments have been invoked to assert the value of the concept. During the 1960s and 1970s, extensive criticism emerged towards a working life that was said to hinder women’s emancipation; a working life that wasted resources and had a negative impact on the environment; a working lif

Working towards a global-scale vegetationwater product from smos optical depth

In this study, vegetation optical depth from ESA's Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite mission is combined with other existing remote sensing, meteorological and literature data in order to obtain values of gravimetric vegetation water content (M-g). The methodology combines an effective medium model valid at passive microwave frequencies with a vegetation dielectric constant model.

Timing of collagen and mineral deposition in cortical bone and effect on tissue properties

Abstract in UndeterminedWe characterized the composition and mechanical properties of cortical bone during maturation and growth and in adult life in the rabbit. We hypothesized that the collagen network develops earlier than the mineralized matrix. Growth was monitored, and the rabbits were euthanized at birth (newborn), and at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 18 months of age. The collagen network was assessed b

Time-Driven Effects on Processing Relative Clauses

The present response time study investigated how a hypothesized time-based working memory constraint of 2–3 s affects the resolution of grammatical and semantic dependencies. Congruent and incongruent object relative (OR) and subject relative sentences were read at different presentation rates so that the distance between dependent words was either shorter or longer than 2–3 s. Incongruent OR sent

Impact of temperature dependent sampling procedures in proteomics and peptidomics – A characterization of the liver and pancreas post mortem degradome

Little is known about the nature of post mortem degradation of proteins and peptides on a global level, the so-called degradome. This is especially true for non-neural tissues. Degradome properties in relation to sampling procedures on different tissues are of great importance for the studies of for instance post translational modifications and/or the establishment of clinical biobanks. Here, snap

Can the job content questionnaire be used to assess structural and organizational properties of the work environment?

Objective The theory behind the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) presumes that the "objective" social environment is measurable via self-report inventories such as the JCQ. Hence, it is expected that workers in identical work will respond highly similar. However, since no studies have evaluated this basic assumption, we decided to investigate whether workers performing highly similar work also resp

Kinks in the σ Band of Graphene Induced by Electron-Phonon Coupling

Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy reveals pronounced kinks in the dispersion of the sigma band of graphene. Such kinks are usually caused by the combination of a strong electron-boson interaction and the cutoff in the Fermi-Dirac distribution. They are therefore not expected for the sigma band of graphene that has a binding energy of more than approximate to 3.5 eV. We argue that the obser

Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Bonding Analysis of the Hypoelectronic Cubic Phase Ca5Pd6Ge6.

The title compound, Ca5Pd6Ge6, was obtained during a systematic investigation of the Ca-Pd-Ge ternary phase diagram. The crystal structure was determined and refined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. It crystallizes in a new structure variant of the Y4PdGa12-type structure (Im3̅m, a = 8.7764(4) Å) that features an arrangement of vertex-sharing body-centered cubes of calcium, Ca@Ca8, with

Long term (13 years) prognosis after primary intracerebral haemorrhage: a prospective population based study of long term mortality, prognostic factors and causes of death.

INTRODUCTION: Many studies have focused on short term mortality after primary intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) whereas long term prognosis and causes of death have been less studied. We therefore examined these issues in a population based cohort of 1 year ICH survivors. METHODS: ICH patients in a defined Swedish population (1.14 million inhabitants) were prospectively registered during 1996. Patie

Features of the Nyström method for the Sherman-Lauricella equation on Piecewise Smooth Contours

The stability of the Nyström method for the Sherman-Lauricella equation on contours with corner points $c_j$, $j=0,1,...,m$ relies on the invertibility of certain operators $A_{c_j}$ belonging to an algebra of Toeplitz operators. The operators $A_{c_j}$ do not depend on the shape of the contour, but on the opening angle $\theta_j$ of the corresponding corner $c_j$ and on parameters of the approxim
