Heme Protein Biogenesis - Catalase in Enterococcus faecalis

Popular Abstract in English Heme is a small red-colored molecule consisting of an iron atom bound to a chemical structure called porphyrin. Heme is essential for many organisms, including humans, because it is a cofactor in a variety of proteins that are needed to sustain metabolism. The probably most famous heme protein is hemoglobin which gives blood its red color. The heme cofactor in hemoglobiHeme proteins form a large and diverse group of proteins which are involved in a variety of biological functions. The heme prosthetic group enables them to carry out redox reactions, transport electrons, bind gaseous molecules, and function as sensors. Despite their importance only little is generally known about heme protein biogenesis. The Gram-positive bacterium Enterococcus faecalis is found i

U-Pb baddeleyite geochronology of Precambrian mafic dyke swarms and complexes in southern Africa - regional scale extensional events and the origin of the Bushveld Complex

Gångarna kan bli hundratals meter breda och kan uppträda i stort antal och bilda s.k. gångsvärmar vilka är uttryck för perioder då jordskorpan har utsatts för extensioneDolerite dykes are formed when iron- and magnesium-rich (mafic) mantle-derived magmas ascend through the lithosphere (upper part of the mantle) and crystallize as ‘hydro-fractures’ within the crust. Dykes may exist in great numbers to form dyke swarms (linear or radiating), which can be linked to time periods of continental break-up, or attempted break-up events, associated with voluminous volcani

Legg-Calvé-Perthes´ disease. Synovitis, cartilage, remodeling

Orsaken till LCPD är en cirkulations-störning i höftens sfärisThis thesis evaluates and correlates the findings in a series of children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes´ Disease at the Departments of Orthopedics, University Hospitals in Lund, Sweden and Odense, Denmark during 1984-1993. It focuses on the importance of synovitis and its effect on the cartilage, on the shape of the femoral head in the early phases of LCPD and on femoral head remodeling after proximal f

Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury - Pathophysiology as basis for novel treatment

Tarmskadan, inkluderande dess barriär(skydds-)funktion sker dels under perioden med nedsatt blodförsörjning meIntestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is not infrequent in the clinical situation and the intestinal barrier plays an important role in gut barrier function, preventing not at least septic complications and potentially the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Mechanisms of intestinal I/R induced gut epithelial and endothelial barrier dysfunction and remote organ dysfunction

An Experimental Study of Heat Transfer on an Outlet Guide Vane

In the present study, the heat transfer characteristics on the suction and pressure sides of an outlet guide vane (OGV) are investigated by using liquid crystal thermography (LCT) method in a linear cascade. Because the OGV has a complex curved surface, it is necessary to calibrate the LCT by taking into account the effect of viewing angles of the camera. Based on the calibration results, heat tra

The Fusion of Fable and Comedy. Some Remarks Concerning the Danish Reception of Boursault’s First Aesop Play

By examining the reception of Edme Boursault’s first fable comedy, Ésope (1690), the paper discusses the historical prerequisites of an interlacing of fable and comedy. The several 18th century translations of Boursault’s drama often have been taken as a pretext for the success of his genre experiment. The fusion of fable and comedy was, however, not in all respects in line with literary horizons
