Fast and Reliable Two-View Translation Estimation

It has long been recognized that one of the fundamental difficulties in the estimation of two-view epipolar geometry is the capability of handling outliers. In this paper, we develop a fast and tractable algorithm that maximizes the number of inliers under the assumption of a purely translating camera. Compared to classical random sampling methods, our approach is guaranteed to compute the optimal

Radioactivity Exploration from the Arctic to Antarctica. Part 5: The Tundra-94 expedition

The joint Swedish-Russian “Tundra Ecology-94” expedition during 1994 used the large Russian ice-breaking research vessel R/V Akademik Fedorov a platform and went along a coastline of 3500 km-from the Kola Peninsula 10°E to Kolyuchinskaya Bay 173°E. Radioactivity in air, seawater and sediment was explored at various locations along the route. The average of 7Be activity concentration in air over th

Tracking the shape-dependent sintering of platinum-rhodium model catalysts under operando conditions.

Nanoparticle sintering during catalytic reactions is a major cause for catalyst deactivation. Understanding its atomic-scale processes and finding strategies to reduce it is of paramount scientific and economic interest. Here, we report on the composition-dependent three-dimensional restructuring of epitaxial platinum-rhodium alloy nanoparticles on alumina during carbon monoxide oxidation at 550 K

Role of platelets and neutrophils in regulating trypsinogen activation and tissue damage in acute pancreatitis

De flesta patienter, ungefär 80%, får en mild form av sjukdomen som begränsas till just bukspottkörteln (pancreas), och dessa patienter tillfrisknar efter några daAcute pancreatitis is an inflammatory disease characterized by a diverse spectrum of clinical presentations ranging from a mild and self-limiting to a severe and systemic disorder. The relationship between inflammation and proteolytic activation in pancreatitis is an elusive issue. The aim of this thesis was to define the influence of platelets and neutrophils as well as their interrelations in re

Early lumbar puncture in adult bacterial meningitis-rationale for revised guidelines

Current international guidelines recommend cerebral computerized tomography (CT) before lumbar puncture (LP) in many adults with suspected acute bacterial meningitis (ABM), due to concern about LP-induced cerebral herniation. Despite guideline emphasis on early treatment based on symptoms, performing CT prior to LP implies a risk of delayed ABM treatment, which may be associated with a fatal outco

The Multifaceted Impact of Corruption on International Trade

The purpose of this paper is to perform a detailed examination of corruption effects on trade based on corruption characteristics known to affect economic exchange within the corruption research field. These characteristics are the level, prevalence, customs location, function and predictability of corruption. The multifaceted corruption impact on trade is empirically examined using a corruption-a

Mild intellectual disability and ADHD; a comparative study of school age children's adaptive abilities

Aim: To compare adaptive functioning in children with mild intellectual disability (MID) with that of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: Thirty-three children with MID were contrasted with 27 children with ADHD with regard to adaptive functioning as measured by the Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System (ABAS-II). The group with MID was population-based, and the

C-14 sample preparation for AMS microdosing studies at Lund University using online combustion and septa-sealed vials

The Department of Physics at Lund University is participating in a European Union project called EUMAPP (European Union Microdose AMS Partnership Programme), in which sample preparation and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) measurements of biological samples from microdosing studies have been made. This paper describes a simplified method of converting biological samples to solid graphite for C-

Association of physician's sex with risk factor control in treated hypertensive patients from Swedish primary healthcare.

OBJECTIVE: To study the association of physician's sex with blood pressure, lipid control, and cardiovascular risk factors in treated hypertensive men and women, stratified for the sex of their physician. METHODS: In a cross-sectional survey of hypertensive patients, 264 primary care physicians (PCPs), 187 men and 77 women from across Sweden, recruited 6537 treated hypertensive patients (48% men)

Compositional Multiprocessor Scheduling: the GMPR interface

Composition is a practice of key importance in software engineering. When real-time applications are composed, it is necessary that their timing properties (such as meeting the deadlines) are guaranteed. The composition is performed by establishing an interface between the application and the physical platform. Such an interface typically contains information about the amount of computing capacity

Counting Closed Trails

A closed trail is a connected graph whose every vertex is incident to an even number of edges. We give a deterministic algorithm that in time $2^{m/2}poly(m,n)$ finds the number of closed trails in a given graph G with n vertices and m edges. Moreover, within the same time bound we can determine every possible vertex set of a closed trail in G, together with the associated number of closed trails.

Application of an anisotropic growth and remodelling formulation to computational structural design

A classical structural optimisation problem consists of a problem-specific objective function which has to be minimised in consideration of particular constraints with respect to design and state variables. In this contribution we adopt a conceptually different approach for the design of a structure which is not based on a classical optimisation technique. Instead, we establish a constitutive micr

Method for evaluating learning from incidents using the idea of "level of learning"

Learning from incidents is considered a very important source for learning and improving safety in the process industries. However, the effectiveness of learning from reported incidents can often be ques-tioned. Therefore, there is a need to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of learning from incidents, and for that purpose we need methods and tools. In this paper, a method is described for eva

Identification of human S100A9 as a novel target for treatment of autoimmune disease via binding to quinoline-3-carboxamides.

Despite more than 25 years of research, the molecular targets of quinoline-3-carboxamides have been elusive although these compounds are currently in Phase II and III development for treatment of autoimmune/inflammatory diseases in humans. Using photoaffinity cross-linking of a radioactively labelled quinoline-3-carboxamide compound, we could determine a direct association between human S100A9 and

Lower Limb Amputation in Patients with Vascular Disease

Antalet årligen nytillkomna benamputerade i Sverige kan uppskattas till mellan 1000-1100 och mindre än 5 % av dessa fall är relaterade till andra orsaker, t.ex. trauma elThe current prevalence of persons amputated at transmetatarsal level or higher in Sweden can be estimated to be between 5000 and 5500 persons (approx. 0.06 % of the population). The majority of these are patients with vascular disease (≈ 80%). In Sweden between 1000 and1100 new amputees can be expect every year. Less than 5% of all amputations will be related to causes other than vascular disease.
