Oscillator-strengths For Resonance Transitions In Neutral Selenium and Tellurium Derived From Time-resolved Laser Spectroscopy

We have measured radiative lifetimes for selenium and tellurium resonance levels by using short pulse laser excitation in differentially heated resonance cells. We obtained tau(3S1 Se I) = 2.9(5) ns and tau(3S1 Te I) = 3.1(5) ns, which together with branching ratio values given by Ubelis and Berzinsh yield the absorption oscillator strength f(abs)(Se I, 196.0 nm) = 0.074(16) and f(abs)(Te I, 214.3

Tensin2 reduces intracellular phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate levels at the plasma membrane.

Tensins are proposed cytoskeleton-regulating proteins. However, Tensin2 additionally inhibits Akt signalling and cell survival. Structural modelling of the Tensin2 phosphatase (PTPase) domain revealed an active site-like pocket receptive towards phosphoinositides. Tensin2-expressing HEK293 cells displayed negligible levels of plasma membrane phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns(3,4,5)P

Selection on space use in a polymorphic lizard

Background: Polymorphism within the same species, population, and sex is an interesting problem for the evolutionary biologist, since differences in fitness between the morphs have to cancel out over evolutionary time, otherwise morphs of lower fitness would become extinct. One way this may be achieved is through the adoption of different morph-specific reproductive strategies, allowing morphs to

Finns det någon under oss?

Examination of nationalist ideologies via two films from the former Yugoslavia in which the underground plays a major role – Emir Kusturica's Underground and Srdjan Dragojevic's Pretty Village, Pretty Flame.

Health-related factors associated with hospitalization for old people: Comparisons of elderly aged 85 in a population cohort study.

The aim of this population-based study was to (1) describe living conditions and actual health care utilization among 85 year olds; (2) determine factors that affect hospital admissions in this age. The study was conducted on 85-year-old residents in Linköping municipality, Sweden. The data collected included medical records, health care utilization during the preceding 12 months and a postal ques

Nonendocrine Cancers Associated with Benign and Malignant Parathyroid Tumors.

Context: There are limited reliable epidemiological data concerning whether individuals with benign/malignant parathyroid tumor are at an elevated risk of developing nonendocrine malignancies or vice versa. Objective: The objective of the study was to quantify these risks, especially risk of parathyroid tumors after other cancers. Design: This was a population-based retrospective cohort study. Par

Validation of the Swedish short forms of the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7), Pelvic floor distress inventory (PFDI-20) and Pelvic organ prolapse/Urinary incontinence sexual questionnaire (PISQ-12).

Objective. To psychometrically evaluate the Swedish translations of the short forms of the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7), Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) and Pelvic organ prolapse/Urinary incontinence Sexual questionnaire (PISQ-12). Design and setting. University hospital. Sample. Forty-four patients awaiting prolapse surgery. Methods. The dual panel translation method follo

High rates of virological suppression in a cohort of human immunodeficiency virus-positive adults receiving antiretroviral therapy in ethiopian health centers irrespective of concomitant tuberculosis.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation during treatment for tuberculosis (TB) improves survival in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/TB-coinfected patients. We compared virological suppression (VS) rates, mortality, and retention in care in HIV-positive adults receiving care in 5 Ethiopian health centers with regard to TB coinfection.
