Searches for supersymmetric particles in e(+)e(-) collisions up to 208 GeV and interpretation of the results within the MSSM

DELPHI data collected at centre-of-mass energies up to 208 GeV have been analysed to search for charginos, neutralinos and sfermions in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with R-parity conservation. No evidence for a signal was found in any of the channels. The results of each search were used to derive limits on production cross-sections and particle masses. In addi

High-spin states and band terminations in As-69

Excited levels in As-69 were studied using the Ca-40(S-32,3p)As-69 reaction at 95 and 105 MeV beam energy. Gamma rays were detected with the EUROBALL spectrometer operated in conjunction with the Neutron Wall and the charged-particle detector array EUCLIDES. New level sequences with positive and negative parity were identified from 3p-gammagamma and gammagammagamma coincidences. Spins were assigne

Adverse effects and benefits of two years of anagrelide treatment for thrombocythemia in chronic myeloproliferative disorders

Background and Objectives. Although anagrelide is widely used in the treatment of throm-bocythemia in myeloproliferative diseases, there is currently limited information on the efficacy and toxicity of its long-term use. This prospective study investigated clinical toxicity and efficacy of anagrelide during two years of treatment. Design and Methods. A multicenter, open, phase II study of anagreli

Jawed polychaetes from the Upper Sylvan Shale (Upper Ordovician), Oklahoma, USA

A jawed polychaete fauna from the upper 30 in of the Upper Ordovician Sylvan Shale (Richmondian, Ash-ill) of Oklahoma is described, based on recovered scolecodonts (polychaete jaws). The fauna includes members of six families: Paulinitidae, Ramphoprionidae, Polychaetaspidae, Atraktoprionidae, Hadoprionidae, and Kalloprionidae. Ten species are identified and one new paulinitid species, Ketmerites (

Hydrolysis of return sludge for production of easily biodegradable carbon: effect of pre-treatment, sludge age and temperature

Return sludge from two Swedish and two Danish wastewater treatment plants were hydrolysed in laboratory reactors. Treatment plants with/without pre-sedimentation and with/without nitrification were represented. Soluble organic matter was produced from all types of sludge, but the yield was to a large extent dependent on what type of sludge was hydrolysed. Activated sludge from wastewater treatment

Systematic Synthesis of Hexanuclear Phosphido-bridged Osmium Clusters; Crystal and Molecular Structure of HOs6(CO)22PH2

The phosphido-bridged cluster [Os6(µ-H)(CO)22(µ-PH2)] and the corresponding phosphinidene-bridged cluster [Os6(µ-H)2(CO)21(µ-PH)] have been prepared from the reaction of [Os3(CO)11(PH3)] with [Os3(CO)11(NCMe)] in toluene. In a similar reaction, [Os6(µ-H)(CO)21(NCMe)(µ-PH2)] has been prepared from the reaction of [Os3(CO)11(PH3)] with [Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2]. The two Os6 clusters have been fully charact

Measurement of the W-pair production cross-section and W branching ratios in e(+)e(-) collisions at root s=161-209 GeV

These final results on e(+) e(-) W+ W- production cross-section measurements at LEP2 use data collected by the DELPHI detector at centre-of-mass energies up to 209 GeV. Measurements of total cross-sections, W angular differential distributions and decay branching fractions, and the value of the CKM element |V-cs| are compared to the expectations of the Standard Model. These results supersede all v

Demonstration of sequence variations in the promoter region of the human cystatin C gene

Four point mutations in the promoter region of the human cystatin C gene have been detected by direct sequencing of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplified DNA. The four base changes are all localized within a short segment of 85 base pairs. Three cystatin C gene alleles could be defined with respect to these promoter mutations; one with the sequence previously published, one carrying three of t

Lung transplantation at the University of Lund 1990-1995. Analysis of the first 39 consecutive patients

Between 1990 and 1995 39 patients were lung transplanted at the University Hospital in Lund. This is a retrospective review of survival and lung function in these patients. There were 17 single-lung transplants (SLT), 21 double-lung transplants (DLT) and 1 heart-lung transplant (HLT). Seven patients died during the period, giving an overall survival of 82%. One-year survival according to Kaplan-Me

Rotational Bands with Terminating Properties in 59Ni

Highly-deformed rotational bands were established in Ni-59 using the Ca-40(Si-29,2p2alpha)Ni-59 reaction. Lifetime measurements indicate that transition quadrupole moments of two of these bands decrease as they smoothly approach their maximum-spin states. The configurations of these bands as well as their band-terminating features are discussed based on configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Stru

Influence of chemical interaction at the lattice-mismatched h-BN/Rh(111) and h-BN/Pt(111) interfaces on the overlayer morphology

The atomic and electronic structure of the lattice-mismatched h-BN/Pt(111) and h-BN/Rh(111) interfaces formed by pyrolitic reactions with vaporized borazine has been studied by low-energy electron diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy, x-ray-absorption spectroscopy, and core-level and valence-band photoemission. It has been found that on Pt(111), h-BN forms a nearly flat monolayer, insignific

Chemical emissions from concrete

The major part of this work deals with a new method for quantification of VOCs in concrete. There is a need for this type of quantification due to the development in cement and concrete production using plasticizing agents and fillers for improved rheological properties, and alternative fuels and waste materials to reduce the environmental impact of cement production. Measurements are needed to sh
