Södervärns vattentorn i förändring

Since its construction in 1916 and until it was taken out of use in 2015 it has provided the citizens of Malmö with drinking water. Ever since the decicion to exlcude the tower as a part of the city’s water system, a debate has been held on what shall become of the tower, without leading to any decisive decisions. This thesis

In vivo detection of Alzheimer's and Lewy body disease concurrence : Clinical implications and future perspectives

INTRODUCTION: The recent introduction of seed amplification assays (SAAs) detecting misfolded α-synuclein, a pathology-specific marker for Lewy body disease (LBD), has allowed the in vivo identification and phenotypic characterization of patients with co-occurring Alzheimer's disease (AD) and LBD since the early clinical or even preclinical stage. METHODS: We reviewed studies with an in vivo bioma

On the surface integrity of machined aero-engine grade Ni-based superalloy billets produced by the field-assisted sintering technology (FAST) route

High performance powder-based Ni-based superalloys exhibit exceptional in-service properties at elevated temperature, however this leads to reduced machinability and the potential for significant machining induced damage. Field assisted sintering technology (FAST) is capable of consolidating powder rapidly and efficiently, allowing for precise control of the microstructure via the dissolution of s

Integrating Capacity Analysis and Should-Cost Modeling to Enhance Procurement Processes - An in-depth understanding of the supply and cost structures of aluminum foil in North America

In the rapidly evolving electric vehicle (EV) battery industry, strategic supplier selection is crucial for securing a reliable and cost-effective supply chain. This thesis examines the implementation of a capacity analysis and a should-cost model to optimize supplier selection and contracting for Northvolt, a leading battery manufacturer, as it expands into North America. With Northvolt's new

Utilizing Lean Thinking to Reduce Deficiencies in Food Industry Warehouse Operations

Background: Logistics within the food industry have been under increased pressure in recent years due to factors such as the invasion of Ukraine and Covid-19. This has put additional focus on efficiency throughout the supply chain, including warehousing activities. Warehousing has historically often been seen as a burden as it provides limited value-adding activities which means organizations cons

COMBAT-MS : A Population-Based Observational Cohort Study Addressing the Benefit–Risk Balance of Multiple Sclerosis Therapies Compared with Rituximab

Objective: To assess comparative effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of off-label rituximab, compared with frequently used therapies approved for multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: A Swedish cohort study of persons with relapsing–remitting MS, age 18 to 75 years at inclusion and with a first therapy start or a first therapy switch between 2011 and 2018. Low-dose rituximab was compared with MS-a

Characterization of genetic variants of GIPR reveals a contribution of β-arrestin to metabolic phenotypes

Incretin-based therapies are highly successful in combatting obesity and type 2 diabetes1. Yet both activation and inhibition of the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor (GIPR) in combination with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor (GLP-1R) activation have resulted in similar clinical outcomes, as demonstrated by the GIPR–GLP-1R co-agonist tirzepatide2 and AMG-133 (ref

Flow characterization of the Mach 5 hypersonic nozzle of VKI-H3 wind tunnel

The operational map of the H3 Mach 6 blowdown wind tunnel, at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI), is extended towards lower Mach numbers with a new axisymmetric contoured nozzle to achieve Mach 5 testing conditions. Following the design, manufacturing, instrumentation and integration of the Mach 5 nozzle, an extensive commissioning campaign is initiated. The flow investigations rely

Critical time window of neuronal cholesterol synthesis during neurite outgrowth

Cholesterol is an essential membrane component enriched in plasma membranes, growth cones, and synapses. The brain normally synthesizes all cholesterol locally, but the contribution of individual cell types to brain cholesterol metabolism is unknown. To investigate whether cortical projection neurons in vivo essentially require cholesterol biosynthesis and which cell types support neurons, we have

Practices, strategies, and challenges in antibiotic treatment and prevention of antimicrobial resistance from the perspectives of Romanian community pharmacists and general practitioners: a Goffman-inspired qualitative interview study

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a persistent and ascensive global threat influenced by antibiotic misuse and overuse. In the Romanian context, patterns of antibiotic consumption and resistance within the healthcare system are marked in the red scenario on the European map. General practitioners and pharmacists, among others, play a major role in stewardship towards AMR.Aim:

Neuroligins Nlg2 and Nlg4 Affect Social Behavior in Drosophila melanogaster

The genome of Drosophila melanogaster includes homologs to approximately one-third of the currently known human disease genes. Flies and humans share many biological processes, including the principles of information processing by excitable neurons, synaptic transmission, and the chemical signals involved in intercellular communication. Studies on the molecular and behavioral impact of genetic ris

Structured diabetes care routines in cardiac rehabilitation are associated with increased diabetes detection and improved treatment after myocardial infarction : a nationwide observational study

BACKGROUND: Despite the detrimental impact of abnormal glucose metabolism on cardiovascular prognosis after myocardial infarction (MI), diabetes is both underdiagnosed and undertreated. We investigated associations between structured diabetes care routines in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and detection and treatment of diabetes at one-year post-MI.METHODS: Center-level data was derived from the Perf

Multiplex genome editing eliminates the Warburg Effect without impacting growth rate in mammalian cells

The Warburg effect is ubiquitous in proliferative mammalian cells, including cancer cells, but poses challenges for biopharmaceutical production, as lactate accumulation inhibits cell growth and protein production. Previous efforts to eliminate lactate production via knockout have failed in mammalian bioprocessing since lactate dehydrogenase has proven essential. However, here we eliminated the Wa

How Can We Persuade Consumers to Purchase More Sustainable Products? A Review of European Legal Developments

A key strategy to support the vision of a circular economy is to promote the consumption of more sustainable products. Both the EU and its Member States have therefore adopted several policies to support this objective. We review these policies and discuss their potential to trigger changes in consumer behaviour. The discussion is focused on five ‘points of intervention’: (1) regulatory choice edi
