Productive Multitasking for Industrial Robots

The application of robotic solutions to small-batch production is challenging: economical constraints tend to dramatically limit the time for setting up new batches. Organizing robot tasks into modular software components, called skills, and allowing the assignment of multiple concurrent tasks to a single robot is potentially game-changing. However, due to cycle time constraints, it may be necessa

Parameterization of Ambiguity in Monocular Depth Prediction

Monocular depth estimation is a highly challenging problem that is often addressed with deep neural networks. While these use recognition of high level image features to predict reasonably looking depth maps, the result often has poor metric accuracy. Moreover, the standard feed forward architecture does not allow modification of the prediction based on cues other than the image. In this paper we rel

Italian public's views on sharing genetic information and medical information : Findings from the 'Your DNA, Your Say' study

Background: The collection and sharing of genomic and health data underpins global efforts to develop genomic medicine services. 'Your DNA, Your Say' is a cross-sectional survey with the goal of gathering lay public attitudes toward the access and sharing of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) information and medical information. It suggests significant international variation in the willingness to share

Association between serum urate and CSF markers of Alzheimer's disease pathology in a population-based sample of 70-year-olds

Introduction: The relationship between urate and biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathophysiology has not been investigated. Methods: We examined whether serum concentration of urate was associated with cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers, amyloid beta (Aβ)42, Aβ40, phosphorylated tau (p-tau), total tau (t-tau), neurofilament light (NfL), and Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio, in cognitively unimpaired 70-year-ol

Oxidation and Reduction of Ir(100) Studied by High-Energy Surface X-ray Diffraction

The oxidation and reduction of an Ir(100) surface using 2.5, 5, and 10 mbar O2partial pressure and a sample temperature of 775 K have been studied by using high-energy surface X-ray diffraction (HESXRD) which allowed to record large volumes of reciprocal space in short time periods. The complex 3D diffraction patterns could be disentangled in a stepwise procedure. For the 2.5 mbar experiment the m

The Concept of Recovery and Temporality in Drug User's Stories

Background: Temporality and the embodiment of time is an important dimension in different recovery models, as well as in drug users’ recovery stories. Tuning rules for feedforward control from measurable disturbances combined with PID control : a review

Feedforward control can be considered as the most well-known control approach to deal with measurable disturbances. It started to be used almost 100 years ago, and since then it is being used in most industrial processes. It is a very simple technique that has been used typically as a complement to PID control, although it can be combined with any feedback controller. The feedforward control desig

Eye tracking : empirical foundations for a minimal reporting guideline

In this paper, we present a review of how the various aspects of any study using an eye tracker (such as the instrument, methodology, environment, participant, etc.) affect the quality of the recorded eye-tracking data and the obtained eye-movement and gaze measures. We take this review to represent the empirical foundation for reporting guidelines of any study involving an eye tracker. We compare

Det fSweden is a multicultural country in which about 20 percent of the population has a foreign background. People who belong to different population groups live here and have diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. This means that the Swedish tourism and hospitality industry today communicates with a very diversified Swedish target group. This report, which is the result of a commissioned researc

Essays on instruction time, grades and parental investments in education

This thesis consists of four self-contained papers in the economics of education. The first chapter examines the importance of instruction time for student achievement on international assessments. The second chapter identifies the effect of sibling gender on education and how this effect varies according to traditional inheritance customs. The third chapter studies the effect of more informative

The amplitude of small eye movements can be accurately estimated with video-based eye trackers

Estimating the gaze direction with a digital video-based pupil and corneal reflection (P-CR) eye tracker is challenging partly since a video camera is limited in terms of spatial and temporal resolution, and because the captured eye images contain noise. Through computer simulation, we evaluated the localization accuracy of pupil-, and CR centers in the eye image for small eye rotations (≪ 1 deg).

Patients’ Experiences of Participation in High-Security, Forensic Psychiatric Care

The role of patient participation in forensic psychiatric care is unclear, but has been emphasised as important in recent research. This study aims to describe patients’ lived experiences of participation in high-security, forensic psychiatric settings. Sixteen patient interviews were performed in this phenomenological study and analysed with a Reflective Lifeworld Research approach (RLR). Results

Dissolved oxygen determination in sewers using flow hydraulic parameters as part of a physical-biological simulation model

This paper aims to develop a model for calculating the hydraulic and water quality parameters of wastewater within sewers. Information from the wastewater collection network and the transmission line in Birjand were used to verify the model performance. The parameters used for modelling quality changes include the yield constant for biomass (YH), the maximum specific growth rate (μH), the saturati

Compound Urban Crises

The crises that cities face—such as climate change, pandemics, economic downturn, and racism—are tightly interlinked and cannot be addressed in isolation. This paper addresses compound urban crises as a unique type of problem, in which discrete solutions that tackle each crisis independently are insufficient. Few scholarly debates address compound urban crises and there is, to date, a lack of inte

Using Quotas as a Remedy for Structural Injustice

We analyze a frequent but undertheorized form of structural injustice, one that arises due to the difficulty of reaching numerically equitable representation of underrepresented subgroups within a larger group. This form of structural injustice is significant because it could occur even if it were possible to completely eliminate bias and overt discrimination from hiring and recruitment practices.

Benchmarking ANO-R basis set for multiconfigurational calculations

The selection of basis sets is very important for multiconfigurational wave function calculation, due to a balance between a desired accuracy and computational costs. Recently, the atomic natural orbital-relativistic (ANO-R) basis set was published as a suggested replacement for the ANO-RCC basis set for scalar-relativistic correlated calculations Zobel et al (2021 J. Meta-analysis reveals variance in tolerance to climate change across marine trophic levels

Marine ecosystems are currently facing a variety of anthropogenic perturbations, including climate change. Trophic differences in response to climate change may disrupt ecological interactions and thereby threaten marine ecosystem function. Yet, we still do not have a comprehensive understanding of how different trophic levels respond to climate change stressors in marine ecosystems. By including
