Ultrasonic Detection in Robotic Environments

Based on information produced by a 200 kHz ultrasonic echo device developed for robotics and other industrial purposes, a method for object identification was developed and is presented in this paper. Interpretation of the echos from the reflecting objects, complexity analysis and information extraction were made by system identification methods such as impulse response analysis and state-space re

Delay-Aware Period Assignment in Control Systems

We consider the problem of optimal static period assignment for multiple independent control tasks executing on the same CPU. Previous works have assumed that the control performance can be expressed as a function of the sampling rate only. Arguing that the control delay has a large impact on the control performance, in this work we include the control delay in the cost function. The delay is esti

Grafchart and Batch Recipe Structures

The paper presents how Grafchart can be used to implement batch recipe structures. Grafchart, a toolbox based on Grafcet/SFC, object-oriented programming constructs and ideas from high-level Petri nets, is presented in the paper. Grafchart exists in two versions, one basic version and one high-level version. By using the different features of Grafchart in various ways, recipes can be given differe

"Been there, done that" - Exploring the influence of industry and functional work experience on opportunity recognition

The recognition of new venture opportunities has been acknowledged as one of the most important abilities of successful entrepreneurs. Explaining the recognition of new venture opportunities has thus become an important element of the scholarly study of entrepreneurship. Building on this stream of research, we present a study of the influence of prior industry and functional work experience on ent

Physical limitations on the scattering of electromagnetic vector spherical waves

Understanding the interaction between electromagnetic waves and matter is vital in applications ranging from classical optics to antenna theory. This paper derives physical limitations on the scattering of electromagnetic vector spherical waves. The assumptions made are that the heterogeneous scatterer is passive, and has constitutive relations which are on convolution form in the time domain and

Time domain theory of the macroscopic Maxwell equations

A time domain description of linear macroscopic electromagnetic phenomena is considered. We show that it is always possible to model the constitutive relations with a symmetric, positive definite optical response together with a convolution integral. An initial-boundary value problem is formulated for the macroscopic Maxwell equations together with a reflection operator modeling the exterior regio
