Longitudes, Syzygies, and Instruments in Regiomontanus' Calender for 1475-1531
Instruments and tables in Regiomontanus’ calendar published in 1474 are analysed and explained. It is shown that Regiomontanus used the Alfonsine Tables corrected for the longitude time difference between Toledo and Nuremberg. It is also shown that for the syzygy and eclipse times he used apparent solar times. The syzygy tables of George Peurbach may have been used to correct from mean to true syz
Four Instruments in Martín Cortés' Breve Compendio de la Sphera and a Rule for Finding the Age of the Moon
This paper investigates and discusses four instruments found in a sixteenth century Spanish book of navigation. The night clock is a rather standard application of similar instruments known since the fourteenth century in Europe. Cortés’ explanation of the causes of the deviation of the magnetic and geographical north is quite original. His instrument to correct for that the Polaris deviates from
Rättegången mot Galileo Galilei
Rättsfallspodd från Juridiska fakulteten.År 1632 ger den italienske vetenskapsmannen Galileo Galilei ut en bok som visar att den katolska kyrkans världsbild är felaktig. Jorden står inte still, utan roterar runt solen.

Reforms and coalition building around the reindeer pastoralism of the Indigenous Sámi people in Sweden, 2012–2022
In Sweden, Indigenous Sámi reindeer pastoralists must find effective ways to improve ecological conditions conducive to natural pasture-based reindeer pastoralism in a rapidly changing environment. In particular, they must challenge the conventional climate policy agenda of the dominant economic and political actors. This paper seeks to contribute to the emergence of a social movement that can pus
Neurophysiological signatures of prediction in language : A critical review of anticipatory negativities
Recent event-related potential (ERP) studies in language comprehension converge in finding anticipatory negativities preceding words or word segments that can be pre-activated based on either sentence contexts or phonological cues. We review these findings from different paradigms in the light of evidence from other cognitive domains in which slow negative potentials have long been associated withRecent event-related potential (ERP) studies in language comprehension converge in finding anticipatory negativities preceding words or word segments that can be pre-activated based on either sentence contexts or phonological cues. Robust Coordination of Linear Threshold Dynamics on Directed Weighted Networks
We study dynamics in a network of interacting agents updating their binary states according to a time-varying threshold rule. Specifically, agents revise their state asynchronously by comparing the weighted average of the current states of their neighbors in the interaction network with possibly heterogeneous time-varying threshold values. Such thresholds are determined by an exogenous signal repr

The politics of immortality in Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg : Theology and resistance between 1914-1945
Highlighting the central importance of theological configurations of immortality and eternal life from 1914-1945, Mårten Björk explores the key writings of Franz Rosenzweig, Karl Barth and Oskar Goldberg to situate their ideas in relation to the political turmoil of the period, including the rise of social Darwinism, nationalism and fascism. The conversations happening among Christian and Jewish t
International Diabetes Federation Position Statement on the 1-hour post-load plasma glucose for the diagnosis of intermediate hyperglycaemia and type 2 diabetes
Many individuals with intermediate hyperglycaemia (IH), including impaired fasting glycaemia (IFG) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), as presently defined, will progress to type 2 diabetes (T2D). There is confirmatory evidence that T2D can be prevented by lifestyle modification and/or medications, in people with IGT diagnosed by 2-h plasma glucose (PG) during a 75-gram oral glucose tolerance te
Spatiotemporal link between El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), extreme heat, and thermal stress in the Asia-Pacific region
Climate change is closely monitored and numerous studies reports increasing air temperature and weather extremes across the globe. As a direct consequence of the increase of global temperature, the increased heat stress is becoming a global threat to public health. While most climate change and epidemiological studies focus on air temperature to explain the increasing risks, heat strain can be pre
Sisterhood in prosodic branching
This article discusses the syntax–prosody interface, drawing on evidence from Stockholm Swedish. It is shown that a Swedish main clause containing an embedded clause has three prosodic correlates, two of which are non-isomorphic to the syntactic bracketing. However, two coordinated clauses have only one – isomorphic – prosodic correlate. Optimality-theoretic constraints (Prince & Smolensky 199
The prosodic hierarchy of Swedish
We give an overview of the phonological properties and processes that define the categories of the prosodic hierarchy in Swedish: the prosodic word (ω), the prosodic phrase (φ) and the intonation phrase (ι). The separation of two types of tonal prominence, big accents versus small accents (previously called focal and word accent, e.g. Bruce 1977, 2007), is crucial for our analysis. The ω in Swedis
A PRELIMINARY REPORT OF NEW ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELDWORK AT THE TOMB OF QUEEN MERET-NEITH OF THE 1" DYNASTY AT ABYDOS, UMM EL-QAAB
Following its original discovery by Flinders Petrie in 1899/1900, the tomb of the 1st Dynasty queen, Meret-Neith at Abydos is currently the focus of a new interdisciplinary project. The project aims to establish Meret-Neith’s chronological position and role within the 1st Dynasty and to better understand, visualise, and archive her monumental tomb complex and associated artefacts. The complex comp
Does Health-Care Consolidation Harm Patients? Evidence from Maternity Ward Closures
We study how closures of maternity wards affect maternal and neonatal health. Using data on all hospital births in Sweden between 1990 and 2004, we compare changes in birth-related outcomes across hospital catchment areas that were differently exposed to ward closures. Our findings show that the closures increased maternal obstetric trauma but also decreased fetal stress and infant trauma among ne
Fractal Electronics for Stimulating and Sensing Neural Networks : Enhanced Electrical, Optical, and Cell Interaction Properties
Imagine a world in which damaged parts of the body – an arm, an eye, and ultimately a region of the brain – can be replaced by artificial implants capable of restoring or even enhancing human performance. The associated improvements in the quality of human life would revolutionize the medical world and produce sweeping changes across society. In this chapter, we discuss several approaches to the f
Creating (in) the Arctic : Investigating collaboration and location through a case study of the Arctic noir serial Thin Ice
The Swedish/Icelandic coproduced serial Tunn is [Thin Ice] (2020) offers an insight into current possibilities and challenges of production in the Nordic Arctic region and the involvement of the developing Greenlandic screen industry. By analysing both off- and on-screen elements through a broad screen industry and location-driven approach, the explorative case study illustrates both a region a
