TraML: a standard format for exchange of selected reaction monitoring transition lists
Abstract in UndeterminedTargeted proteomics via selected reaction monitoring (SRM) is a powerful mass spectrometric technique affording higher dynamic range, increased specificity and lower limits of detection than other shotgun mass spectrometry methods when applied to proteome analyses. However, it involves selective measurement of predetermined analytes, which requires more preparation in the f
Third world list of cetrarioid lichens - in a new databased form, with amended phylogenetic and type information
The third, updated electronic version of the world list of cetrarioid lichens (http://esamba.bo.bg.ut.ee/checklist/cetrarioid/home.php) contains more than 570 names representing 149 accepted species. It is based on a FileMaker powered database, allowing users to view data in different sets and to perform searches. The list presents new information about the phylogenetic status of accepted taxa, an

Deoxygenation of the Baltic Sea during the last century
Deoxygenation is a global problem in coastal and open regions of the ocean, and has led to expanding areas of oxygen minimum zones and coastal hypoxia. The recent expansion of hypoxia in coastal ecosystems has been primarily attributed to global warming and enhanced nutrient input from land and atmosphere. The largest anthropogenically induced hypoxic area in the world is the Baltic Sea, where the

The components of the illiquidity premium: An empirical analysis of U.S. stocks 1927-2010
This paper implements a conditional version of the liquidity adjusted CAPM (LCAPM). The conditional LCAPM allows for a time-varying decomposition of the total illiquidity premium into a level component and three risk components. The estimated average annual total illiquidity premium for US stocks 1927-2010 is 1.74%-2.08%, which is substantially lower than in most previous studies. The contribution
Audio spectrum analysis of umbilical artery Doppler ultrasound signals applied to a clinical material.
Analysis of umbilical artery flow velocity waveforms characterized by pulsatility index (PI) is used to evaluate fetoplacental circulation in high-risk pregnancies. However, an experienced sonographer may be able to further differentiate between various timbres of Doppler audio signals. Recently, we have developed a method for objective audio signal characterization; the method has been tested in
Direct Imaging of Atomic Scale Structure and Electronic Properties of GaAs Wurtzite and Zinc Blende Nanowire Surfaces.
Using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy we study the atomic scale geometry and electronic structure of GaAs nanowires exhibiting controlled axial stacking of wurtzite (Wz) and zinc blende (Zb) crystal segments. We find that the nonpolar low-index surfaces {110}, {101̅0}, and {112̅0} are unreconstructed, unpinned, and without states in the band gap region. Direct comparison between Wz
Circulating sex hormones and breast cancer risk factors in postmenopausal women: reanalysis of 13 studies
BACKGROUND: Breast cancer risk for postmenopausal women is positively associated with circulating concentrations of oestrogens and androgens, but the determinants of these hormones are not well understood. METHODS: Cross-sectional analyses of breast cancer risk factors and circulating hormone concentrations in more than 6000 postmenopausal women controls in 13 prospective studies. RESULTS: Concent
The mediating role of acceptance in multidisciplinary cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most frequently delivered psychological intervention for adults with chronic pain. The treatment yields modest effect sizes and the mechanisms of action remain understudied and unclear. Efforts are needed to identify treatment mediators that could be used to refine CBT and improve outcomes. The primary aim of this study is to investigate whether pain-relat
Understanding the Molecular Activity of Alkaline Sphingomyelinase (NPP7) by Computer Modeling
The enzymes in the nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase (NPP) family have various substrates such as nucleotides, phospholipids, and sphingolipids. The substrate specificity in relation to their structures is largely unknown because no mammalian NPP complex has been crystallized. NPP7, also called alkaline sphingomyelinase (alk-SMase), is a NPP family member that may have important implica
Immunolocalization of Collagens (I and III) and Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein in the Normal and Injured Equine Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon
This is a descriptive study of tendon pathology with different structural appearances of repair tissue correlated to immunolocalization of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) and type I and III collagens and expression of COMP mRNA. The material consists of nine tendons from seven horses (5-25 years old; mean age of 10 years) with clinical tendinopathy and three normal tendons from horses (

Do the European Great Reed Warblers (Acrocephalus arundinaceus) reach South Africa during wintering?
Former studies have shown that the Great Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus) has two genetically distinguishable haplogroups (a ‘‘western’’ and an ‘‘eastern’’ clade). The species occurs in South Africa from January to late March, yet, in the whole database of EURING, there are no recoveries to the south of the Congo. There are at least three hypotheses concerning which birds are seen winterin
The (International) Political Economy of Falling Wage Shares: Situating Working-Class Agency
This paper relates the financial and monetary dimensions of the contemporary economic crisis to working-class agency via a central concern of classical political economy: the distribution of surplus between the chief factors of production. The fall in the wage share of value added is now accepted as a stylised fact in the empirical economic literature. This paper argues that the punctuated pattern
A method for quantifying focused versus overview behavior in AOI sequences
We present a new measure for evaluating focused versus overview eye movement behavior in a stimulus divided by areas of interest. The measure can be used for overall data, as well as data over time. Using data from an ongoing project with mathematical problem solving, we describe how to calculate the measure and how to carry out a statistical evaluation of the results.
Comparison of species identification of endocarditis associated viridans streptococci using rnpB genotyping and 2 MALDI-TOF systems.
Streptococcus spp. are important causes of infective endocarditis but challenging in species identification. This study compared identification based on sequence determination of the rnpB gene with 2 systems of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry, MALDI Biotyper (Bruker) and VITEK MS IVD (bioMérieux). Blood culture isolates of viridans streptococci from 63
Synthesis of Substituted Oxazoles from N-Benzyl Propargyl Amines and Acid Chlorides
The reaction between N-benzylpropargylamines and acid chlorides at elevated temperatures provides efficient, direct access to a variety of di- and tri-substituted oxazoles. The versatility of this reaction is explored and 21 examples are demonstrated. The usefulness of the methodology is showcased through the short and efficient formal syntheses of medicinally relevant drugs aleglitazar and romaza
