The π+-π0 mass difference in the QCD effective action approach
We present a calculation of the electromagnetic π+-π0 mass difference within the framework of the QCD effective action approach. The dependence on the constituent chiral quark mass is discussed.

An Approach to Carbide-Centered Cluster Complexes
We report the first examples of the carbide ligand in (Cy 3 P) 2 Cl 2 Ru≡C (RuC) developing into a μ 3 ligand toward metal centers. Conventionally, sterics exclude this coordination mode, but Fe 2 (CO) 9 and Co 2 (CO) 8 expel bridging CO ligands upon reaction with RuC to form trimetallic (Cy 3 P) 2 Cl 2 Ru=CFe 2 (CO) 8 (RuCFe 2 ) and (Cy 3 P) 2 Cl 2 Ru=CCo 2 (CO) 7 (RuCCo 2 )
Dipolar response of an ellipsoidal particle with an anisotropic coating
In this paper we study the response of an ellipsoidal particle with a dielectrically anisotropic coating (the coating dielectric function being different parallel and perpendicular to the coating normal) placed in a constant external electric field. For the coating region we find that potential can be written in terms of solutions to a one-dimensional Heun's equation which is derived from the thre
Dynamics of DNA conformations and DNA-protein interaction
Optical tweezers, atomic force microscopes, patch clamping, or fluorescence techniques make it possible to study both the equilibrium conformations and dynamics of single DNA molecules as well as their interaction with binding proteins. In this paper we address the dynamics of local DNA denaturation (bubble breathing), deriving its dynamic response to external physical parameters and the DNA seque
On cointegration between the insurance market and economic activity
Recent literature mainly examines the causal relationship between the insurance market and economic activity, while agreeing on presence of cointegration. The bulk of this evidence relies on Pedroni’s (Econom Theory 20(03):597–625, 2004) very popular residual-based panel cointegration test. However, this test not only requires that the number of time periods is large, but also that it is large rel
Chiral perturbation theory in the meson sector
The present status of Chiral Perturbation Theory in the meson sector is discussed concentrating on recent developments. This write-up contains short discussions on a listing of a few historical papers, the principles behind ChPT, two-flavour ChPT including some comments about the Pion polarizability, three-flavour ChPT with a discussion of the recently found relations as tests of ChPT and prelimin
Constraining general two Higgs doublet models by the evolution of Yukawa couplings
We analyse the constraints of the general two Higgs doublet models by evolving the Yukawa coupling constants to high energy under renormalization group. We consider the appearance of a Landau pole or large off-diagonal Yukawa couplings which cause tree level flavour changing neutral currents. Our study shows the latter condition can be used to answer how much Z 2 symmetry breaking can be allowed
The mesonic chiral lagrangean of order p6
We construct the effective chiral lagrangean for chiral perturbation theory in the mesonic even-intrinsic-parity sector at order p6. The lagrangean contains 112 in principle measurable + 3 contact terms for the general case of n light flavours, 90+4 for three and 53+4 for two flavours. The equivalence between equations of motion and field redefinitions to remove spurious terms in the lagrangeans i
Stopover departure decisions in autumn are not associated with constitutive immune function in Northern Wheatears Oenanthe oenanthe
Stopover periods in between migratory flights determine the speed of migration and as such may affect birds’ fitness. The decision to leave a stopover site is affected by, for example, energy stores and weather conditions. We investigated whether immunological state influences autumn stopover departure decisions in Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe), a nocturnal long-distance migrant. We measur

Liver blood dynamics after bariatric surgery : The effects of mixed-meal test and incretin infusions
Aims/hypothesis: The mechanisms for improved glycemic control after bariatric surgery in subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are not fully known. We hypothesized that dynamic hepatic blood responses to a mixed-meal are changed after bariatric surgery in parallel with an improvement in glucose tolerance. Methods: A total of ten morbidly obese subjects with T2D were recruited to receive a mixed-meal
Prevalence and Pharmacologic Treatment of Breathlessness in Severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
BackgroundChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Chronic breathlessness is a feared and distressing symptom with significant impact on daily life. Little is known of the prevalence of breathlessness at the end of life in severe COPD. International guidelines support the use of opioids to treat breathlessness, but it is unknown how comm
