Measurement of D*(+/-) meson production and determination of F-2(c(c)over-bar) at low Q(2) in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA
Inclusive production of D* mesons in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA is studied in the range 5 < Q(2) < 100 GeV2 of the photon virtuality and 0.02 < y < 0.7 of the inelasticity of the scattering process. The observed phase space for the D* meson is (pT) (D*) > 1.25 GeV and |eta( D*)| < 1.8. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 348 pb(-1) collected with the H1 detector. S
Accelerometer measured physical activity, methodological and health related aspects
Introduction Ihe association of physical inactivity with mortality, cardiovascular disease and cancer is extensively studied in adults. Clustering of cardiovascular risk factors and objectively measured physical activity in children and youth has not been convincingly established. The sustainability of objectively measured physical activity into adulihood is not satisfactorily studied. Acceleromet
An investigation into the effect of weld technique on the residual stress distribution of 3CR12 (DIN 1.4003) built-up structural sections
This article presents an experimental investigation of thermally induced residual stresses in fabricated 3CR12 (DIN 1.4003) T-sections. 3CR12 is a weldable utility stainless steel developed to provide a superior alternative to coated carbon steels and other alloys which have a poor corrosion/abrasion resistance. Because of the difficulty and costs involved in hot-rolling stainless steel structural
Depression, smoking, physical inactivity and season independently associated with midnight salivary cortisol in type 1 diabetes
BACKGROUND: Disturbances of the circadian rhythm of cortisol secretion are associated with depression, coronary calcification, and higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. The primary aim of this study was to test the associations between midnight salivary cortisol (MSC), depression and HbA1c, and control for behavioural, environmental and intra individual factors with possible impact on cort
Mediterranean dietary patterns and prospective weight change in participants of the EPIC-PANACEA project
Background: There is an association between a greater adherence to a Mediterranean diet and a reduced risk of developing chronic diseases. However, it is not clear whether this dietary pattern may be protective also against the development of obesity. Objective: We assessed the association between the adherence to the Mediterranean dietary pattern (MDP), prospective weight change, and the incidenc
Spectral characterisation of dairy products using photon time-of-flight spectroscopy
In this paper, we present, for the first time, the absorption and reduced scattering spectra of commercially available milk and yoghurt products, obtained using photon-time-of-flight spectroscopy. The ability of this technique to separate the contributions from absorption and scattering in the sample provides important information on the chemical composition and micro-structural properties, which
A proposed set of metrics for standardized outcome reporting in the management of low back pain
Background and purpose - Outcome measurement has been shown to improve performance in several fields of healthcare. This understanding has driven a growing interest in value-based healthcare, where value is defined as outcomes achieved per money spent. While low back pain (LBP) constitutes an enormous burden of disease, no universal set of metrics has yet been accepted to measure and compare outco
Sequence variability is correlated with weak immunogenicity in Streptococcus pyogenes M protein.
The M protein of Streptococcus pyogenes, a major bacterial virulence factor, has an amino-terminal hypervariable region (HVR) that is a target for type-specific protective antibodies. Intriguingly, the HVR elicits a weak antibody response, indicating that it escapes host immunity by two mechanisms, sequence variability and weak immunogenicity. However, the properties influencing the immunogenicity
Explorative investigation of biomarkers of brain damage and coagulation system activation in clinical stroke differentiation
A simple and accurate method of differentiating ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is potentially useful to facilitate acute therapeutic management. Blood measurements of biomarkers of brain damage and activation of the coagulation system may potentially serve as novel diagnostic tools for stroke subtypes. Ninety-seven stroke patients were prospectively investigated in a multicente

Transplanted Functional Islet Mass: Donor, Islet Preparation, and Recipient Factors Influence Early Graft Function in Islet-After-Kidney Patients
Background. The ability to predict clinical function of a specific islet batch released for clinical transplantation using standardized variables remains an elusive goal. Methods. Analysis of 10 donor, 7 islet isolation, 3 quality control, and 6 recipient variables was undertaken in 110 islet-after-kidney transplants and correlated to the pre- to 28-day posttransplant change in C-peptide to glucos

Soft X-ray Exposure Promotes Na Intercalation in Graphene Grown on Si-Face SiC
An investigation of how electron/photon beam exposures affect the intercalation rate of Na deposited on graphene prepared on Si-face SiC is presented. Focused radiation from a storage ring is used for soft X-ray exposures while the electron beam in a low energy electron microscope is utilized for electron exposures. The microscopy and core level spectroscopy data presented clearly show that the ef
PET in the evaluation of head and neck cancer treatment - management of the neck
Popular Abstract in Swedish I gruppen huvudhalscancer ingår tumörer i övre luftvägar och svalg. Ökningen sammanfaller mThe treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is surgery or (chemo)radiotherapy +/- surgery. Side effects related to therapy are long lasting and adversely affects quality of life. The incidence of oropharyngeal cancer is increasing and patients commonly present an advanced tumour stage with neck metastases at the time of diagnosis. The treatment protocol previously comprised rad

RCU2-The ALICE TPC readout electronics consolidation for Run2
This paper presents the solution for optimization of the ALICE TPC readout for running at full energy in the Run2 period after 2014. For the data taking with heavy ion beams an event readout rate of 400 Hz with a low dead time is envisaged for the ALICE central barrel detectors during these three years. A new component, the Readout Control Unit 2 (RCU2), is being designed to increase the present r
Low-frequency scattering analysis and homogenisation of split-ring elements
A key structure in so-called metamaterial mediums is the elementary split-ring resonator. We consider in this paper the low-frequency electromagnetic scattering by a split-ring particle modelled as a perfectly conducting wire ring, furnished with a narrow gap, and derive analytical solutions for the electric and magnetic dipole moments for different kinds of incidence and polarisation in the quasi
Local population extinction and vitality of an epiphytic lichen in fragmented old-growth forest
The population dynamics of organisms living in short-lived habitats will largely depend on the turnover of habitat patches. It has been suggested that epiphytes, whose host plants can be regarded as habitat patches, often form such patch-tracking populations. However, very little is known about the long-term fate of epiphyte individuals and populations. We estimated life span and assessed environm
