The language of eating and drinking: a window on Orang Asli meaning-making

We make in this chapter a first probe into the lexical domain of eating and drinking as it is construed in the Aslian languages, a branch of the Austroasiatic language family spoken by a majority of the Orang Asli of the Malay Peninsula. Fundamental to human experience and representation, the domain of ingestion has received increased linguistic attention in recent years. Setting out from our own

Investigation of Carbohydrate Hydrolysing Enzymes in Applications for Characterisation and Synthesis of Carbohydrates

These properties have made them increasingly important in industrial products e. g. in pharmaceutical applications and in technical dispersions. By chemical modification of these polymers the physical and chemical properties of the polymer can be adjusted to suit a certain area of application. The characteristics of modifie

Validation of Knowledge Claims in Human Science

The validity is in this volume grounded in a shared perception of research on human action, its conditions and consequences, as a human science rather than “social” or “behavioral” science. Validity is here more than the validity of representations, as research is not a mirror held to nature. The function of research is rather to clear the ground for change. All of the authors have done research c

A performance bound on PSD-constrained PAR reduction

Communication systems using multicarrier modulation suffer from a high peak-to-peak ratio, PAR. In this work we use the tone reservation approach to PAR reduction, where a subset of the tones are used for PAR reduction. We derive a bound on the achievable performance under a PSD constraint on the transmit signal. Using this bound, we show that as long as a moderate reduction performance is needed,
