Grafted septal neurons form cholinergic synaptic connections in the dentate gyrus of behaviorally impaired aged rats
A group of aged, behaviorally impaired rats received suspension grafts of fetal septal-diagonal band tissue into the otherwise intact hippocampal formation. Three months after grafting, behaviorally recovered rats were studied by immunocytochemistry by using monoclonal antibodies to choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) and electron microscopy. The innervation of the host dentate gyrus by graft-derived

Regional Forebrain Noradrenalin Release in Response to Focal and Generalized Seizures Induced by Hippocampal Kindling Stimulation
In vivo microdialysis was used to monitor noradrenalin (NA) release in the rat hippocampus, sensorimotor cortex and amygdala in response to seizures induced by electrical kindling stimulation in the hippocampus. Generalized seizures increased NA output in the hippocampus five-fold above baseline level (as assessed with 2-min sampling periods). The peak value was seen 2 - 4 min after onset of seizu
The He(γ,n) reaction: a potential testing ground for the alpha-particle wavefunction
Differential cross sections (σ(Eγ,θn)) for the He(γ,n) reaction have been measured at Eγ=50–71 MeV and θn=30–120°. These data are compared with theoretical predictions where a microscopic calculation of the He and He wavefunctions has been made within the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas, integral-equation formalism.
PFE-360-induced LRRK2 inhibition induces reversible, non-adverse renal changes in rats
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no existing therapeutic approach to delay or stop progression. Genetic, biochemical and pre-clinical studies have provided evidence that leucine-rich-repeat-kinase-2 (LRRK2) kinase is involved in the pathogenesis of PD, and small molecule LRRK2 inhibitors represent a novel potential therapeutic approach. Crack growth across a strength mismatched bimaterial interface
Crack growth across an interface between materials with different strength is examined by a cohesive zone model. The two materials have identical elastic properties but different fracture process properties, or different yield stresses, which is modeled by different cohesive stresses. The fracture criteria is a critical crack opening displacement. Load is represented by a stress intensity factor d
Monoterpene emissions in response to long-term night-time warming, elevated CO2 and extended summer drought in a temperate heath ecosystem
Monoterpenes emitted from plants have an important role in atmospheric chemistry through changing atmospheric oxidative capacity, forming new particles and secondary organic aerosols. The emission rates and patterns can be affected by changing climate. In this study, emission responses to six years of climatic manipulations (elevated CO2, extended summer drought and night-time warming) were invest

Konvergens
Lifestyle and cancer incidence and mortality risk depending on family history of cancer in two prospective cohorts
The extent to which a favorable lifestyle may lower cancer risk in subjects with a family history of cancer is unknown. We conducted a prospective study in two Swedish cohorts, the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study (MDCS; n = 25,604) and the Malmö Preventive Project (MPP; n = 16,216). The association between a favorable lifestyle (based on nonsmoking, normal weight, absence of excessive drinking, regula

Dynamical Relativistic Effects in Quasielastic 1p-Shell Proton Knockout from 16O
We have measured the cross section for quasielastic 1p-shell proton knockout in the 16O(e,e′p) reaction at ω=0.439GeV and Q2=0.8(GeV/c)2 for missing momentum Pmiss≤355MeV/c. We have extracted the response functions RL+TT, RT, RLT, and the left-right asymmetry, ALT, for the 1p1/2 and the 1p3/2 states. The data are well described by relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation calculations. At
