Leukemia Initiation in MLL-ENL Mediated Leukemogenesis

Popular Abstract in Swedish Varje dag producerar vår kropp många miljarder nya blodceller. Dessa celler är livsnödvändiga för att många funktioner i kropp ska fungera. Exempelvis hjälper de till med att skydda oss från sjukdomar, läka skador, och med att transportera syre och avfallsämnen. Blodsystemet (det hematopoetiska systemet) är uppbyggt som en hierarki där hematopoetiska stamceller finns påIn the blood system, knowledge on the regulation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and their immature progeny has provided roadmaps of differentiation. Such information can also have a value to understand the etiology of hematological cancers, since clinical heterogeneity and prognostic therapeutic outcomes have been proposed to associate with the specific developmental stage from which the trans

Model-based analysis of the ventricular response during atrial fibrillation

We study a model of the atrioventricular node function during atrial fibrillation (AF), for which the model parameters can be estimated from the ECG. The proposed model is defined by parameters which characterize the arrival rate of atrial impulses, the probability of an impulse choosing either one of the two atrioventricular nodal pathways, the refractory periods of these pathways, and the prolon

Recension av Swedish Students at the University of Leipzig in the Middle Ages

The book contains editions and studies of texts produced by Swedish academics active at the University of Leipzig in the fifteenth century. Academic texts from the Middle Ages are difficult to digest; the editions, translations and studies presented in this book and its companion volumes make them as accessible to the modern reader as one can possibly ask.

Paleomagnetism Of 1780-1770 Ma Mafic And Composite Intrusions Of Smaland (Sweden): Implications For The Mesoproterozoic Supercontinent

We present a paleomagnefic study of 1785 to 1770 Ma composite and mafic intrusions in Smaland, Sweden. A positive inverse baked contact test suggests the primary nature of their magnetization. The palaeomagnetic pole (45.7 degrees N, 182.7 degrees E, A(95)=8.0 degrees) may be regarded as a key pole for Fennoscandia. Available paleomagnetic data suggest that Laurentia and Fennoscandia/Balfica drift

Gender and international crisis response: Do we have the data, and does it matter?

Abstract in UndeterminedFor more than a decade the humanitarian community has been mandated to mainstream gender in its response to crises. One element of this mandate is a repeated call for sex-disaggregated data to help guide the response. This study examines available analyses, assessments and academic literature to gain insights into whether sex-disaggregated data are generated, accessible and

The quality of the outdoor environment influences children's health. -A cross-sectional study of preschools.

AIM: To test how the quality of the outdoor environment of child day care centers (DCCs) influences children's health. METHODS: The environment was assessed using the Outdoor Play Environmental Categories (OPEC) tool; time spent outdoors, and physical activity as measured by pedometer. 172/253 (68%) of children aged 3.0-5.9 from nine DCCs participated in Southern Sweden. Health data collected were

Application of automated weight windows to spallation neutron source shielding calculations using Geant4

We present an implementation of a general weight window generator for global variance reduction in Geant4 based applications. The implementation is flexible and can be easily adjusted to a user-defined model. In this work, the weight-window generator was applied to calculations based on an instrument shielding model of the European Spallation Source, which is currently under construction in Lund,

Exocytosis in insulin secreting cells - role of SNARE-proteins

Type 2 diabetes is marked by deterioration in pancreatic β-cell function. SNARE-proteins are crucial for the fusion of insulin granules with the plasma membrane, a prerequisite for insulin secretion. The aim of this thesis has been to investigate the exocytotic process in β-cells with a specific focus on the function and significance of the two SNARE-proteins SNAP-25 and syntaxin 1. SNAP-25 and sy

Anti-HIV activity of the small modified amino acid {alpha}-hydroxy glycineamide on in vitro and in vivo HIV-1 capsid assembly and infectivity

Upon maturation of the HIV-1 virion, proteolytic cleavage of the Gag precursor protein by the viral protease is followed by morphological changes of the capsid protein p24 which will ultimately transform the virus core from an immature spherical to a mature conical structure. Virion infectivity is critically dependent on the just right semi-stability of the capsid cone structure. We have earlier r

A model of L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in 6-hydroxydopamine lesioned mice: relation to motor and cellular parameters of nigrostriatal function.

L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia is a major complication of L-DOPA pharmacotherapy in Parkinson's disease, and is thought to depend on abnormal cell signaling in the basal ganglia. In this study, we have addressed the possibility to model L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in the mouse at both the behavioral and the molecular level. C57BL/6 mice sustained unilateral injections of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) either

Pandemic influenza preparedness: The critical role of the syringe

In the face of an almost unprecedented threat of a global pandemic of influenza it is imperative that stockpiling of appropriate drugs and devices begin now. One vital device is an appropriate syringe for delivering vaccine. With the potential for millions to be infected and the vaccine supply severely stretched it is imperative that the syringe used to vaccinate waste as little vaccine as possibl

Human brain activity associated with audiovisual perception and attention

Coherent perception of objects in our environment often requires perceptual integration of auditory and visual information. Recent behavioral data suggest that audiovisual integration depends on attention. The current study investigated the neural basis of audiovisual integration using 3-Tesla functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in 12 healthy volunteers during attention to auditory or vis

On the formation and structure of nanometric polyhedral foams: Toward the dry limit

High surface area, high porosity, nanometric polygonal silica foams with hierarchically connected and uniformly sized pore systems are reported here. We observe a remarkable increase in foam cell sizes from mesoscopic to macroscopic dimensions upon swelling the self-assembled template with oil. The resultant structures resemble classical macroscopic soap foams and display, among other features, Pl
