Clinical expressions of juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations and macular dystrophies: Electrophysiological and genetic studies

In the six papers included in this thesis the phenotypic expressions, with emphasis on the electrophysiological findings, of five different juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations are described. The diagnoses have been confirmed by genetic analysis. The retinal disord

Cytokines and Neutrophils in the Urinary Tract Mucosa

This study investigated the urinary tract cytokine reponse to infection and the role of chemokines for neutrophil recruitment to the urinary tract. The results suggest that 1) IL-8 and TGFb are consitutively produced by uroepithelial cells in vivo, and that uroepithelial cells are stimulated to produce IL-1b and IL-6 by uropathogenic Escherichia coli. 2) MIP-2 (mouse IL-8 homologue) plays an impor

Performance of a multifunctional PV/T hybrid solar window

A PV/T collector have been developed and evaluated at the department of Energy and Building Design at the Technical University of Lund, LTH in Sweden. The PV/T, a “multifunctional solar window” made of PV cells laminated on solar absorbers, is placed in a window behind the glazing. The solar window is built into a single family house, Solgården, in Älvkarleö outside Gävle in the eastern part of Sw

Can we evaluate the quality of software engineering experiments?

Context: The authors wanted to assess whether the quality of published human-centric software engineering experiments was improving. This required a reliable means of assessing the quality of such experiments. Aims: The aims of the study were to confirm the usability of a quality evaluation checklist, determine how many reviewers were needed per paper that reports an experiment, and specify an ap

Comparing Nations - Perceptions of Global Risk and Environmental Concern

The intention of this chapter is neither a pure methodological nor a theoretical discussion, but instead, an empirical analysis which aims to understand variations in perceptions of global risks and environmental concern in a number of countries. The discussion, however, relies on methodological as well as theoretical perspectives concerning the shortcomings and pitfalls one encounters in comparin

Majgrevefesten: En kulturhistorisk analys

The dissertltion is a cultural-historical analysis of the feast of the Lord of May in a complex and socially conditioned setting. The method follows that of the historically oriented ethnology of the Munich school. As regards theory, I have been inspired by the civilization theory of Norbert Elias and by Robert Darnton's studies of groups of actors and their strategies. I have also found support i

Industrializing the construction sector through innovation – Tolerance Dilemma

The industrialization increases the demands being placed on precision and tolerance levels. This concerns both the details of individual components and the manner of coordinating the functioning of the system as a whole. The aim of this paper is to use the result of a case study for a discussion that points out specific problems that the construction industry have to deal with in order to continue

World Health Organization Classification of Tumours. Pathology and Genetics of Tumours of Soft Tissue and Bone

"Pathology and Genetics of Tumours of Soft Tissue and Bone" is the fifth volume in the new WHO series on histological and genetic typing of human tumours. It covers tumours of soft tissue and bone including inherited tumour syndromes. Each entity is extensively discussed with information on clinicopathological, epidemiological, immunophenotypic and genetic aspects of these diseases. Diagnostic cr

Relationship between safety culture and psychosocial working environment in air traffic control
