On the colloidal and molecular aspects of peptide self-assembly

Peptide self-assembly is a spontaneous process, ubiquitous in nature for the creation of highly ordered and complex biological structures, making it a sought after technique in the development of novel biocompatible materials. The process is also strongly associated with various neurodegenerative diseases in the formation of amyloid plaques in diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, where fu

Early prenatal exposure to suspected endocrine disruptor mixtures is associated with lower IQ at age seven

Background: Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are xenobiotics with the ability to interfere with hormone action, even at low levels. Prior environmental epidemiology studies link numerous suspected EDCs, including phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA), to adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. However, results for some chemicals were inconsistent and most assessed one chemical at a time. Objectives:

Sonic Argumentation I

With this special issue Seismograf introduce you to ten new audio papers developed for the journal. The 10 audio papers are published in two volumes: The first, #22 Sonic Argumentation I, gathers scholars from artistic research in music, and the second, #23 Sonic Argumentation II, presents papers by scholars from ethnography, literature and sound studies.

Spektakulära rovsteklar (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae) på sandmark i Åhus, Skåne

Finds and observations of the digger wasps Bembix rostrata L. and Philanthus triangulum F. are reported. They were found during a visit July 9-16 2019 in large aggregations in a nature preserve in Åhus, eastern Scania. The habitat provides shelter, open sand and several flowers as nectar resources. The ecology of the digger wasps are described.

Structure and steroid isomerase activity of Drosophila glutathione transferase E14 essential for ecdysteroid biosynthesis

Ecdysteroids are critically important for formation of the insect exoskeleton. Cholesterol is a precursor of ecdysone and its active form 20-hydroxyecdysone, but some steps in the ecdysteroid biosynthesis pathway remain unknown. An essential requirement of glutathione transferase GSTE14 in ecdysteroid biosynthesis has been established in Drosophila melanogaster, but its function is entirely unknow

Polysemiotic Communication vs. Multimodality : a conceptual and terminological distinction applied in street art

Multimodality is in fact a polysemous word, which is tightly related to the notions of modality, and (semiotic) mode and is used in conceptually different ways across different disciplines (for a review see Adami, 2016; Devylder, 2019; Green, 2014). As cognitive semiotics (Zlatev et al., 2016) aims to integrate concepts and methods from semiotics, cognitive science and cognitive linguistics, we en

Renewable Methanol with Ignition Improver Additive for Diesel Engines

Reduced emissions and environmental burden from shipping are an important aim of tightening emission regulations and ambitious climate change strategy. Renewable methanol produced from biomass or from other renewable sources represents one option to face these challenges. We studied the potential of renewable methanol to offer such benefits in diesel operation in a Scania ethanol engine, which is

An Unusual Presentation of Lupus Vulgaris and the Practical Usefulness of Dermatoscopy

We report a case report of lupus vulgaris (LV) presented on the extremities of an 80-year-old man. He was misdiagnosed as having psoriasis and referred to our department for a second-opinion evaluation. The discrepancy between the clinical manifestation which was misleading and the dermatoscopic findings raised the suspicion of an underlying granulomatous disease and we proceeded to skin biopsy. T

Secukinumab efficacy on resolution of enthesitis in psoriatic arthritis : pooled analysis of two phase 3 studies

BACKGROUND: Enthesitis is one of the psoriatic arthritis (PsA) domains. Patients with enthesitis are associated with worse outcomes than those without enthesitis. The effect of secukinumab on the resolution of enthesitis in patients with PsA was explored using pooled data from the FUTURE 2 and 3 studies. METHOD: Assessments of enthesitis through week 104 used the Leeds Enthesitis Index. These post

Introduction: The Circulation of Knowledge and the History of Humanities

The term “history of knowledge” has gained traction in recent years. This forum section seeks to explore a prominent concept in this new field—circulation—as well as to demonstrate the value of studying knowledge circulation for the history of humanities. While the study of the transmission of knowledge has been pursued in adjacent fields, such as the history of science or media studies, it is arg
