Modeling Nonlinear Dendritic Processing of Facilitation in a Dragonfly Target-Tracking Neuron

Dragonflies are highly skilled and successful aerial predators that are even capable of selectively attending to one target within a swarm. Detection and tracking of prey is likely to be driven by small target motion detector (STMD) neurons identified from several insect groups. Prior work has shown that dragonfly STMD responses are facilitated by targets moving on a continuous path, enhancing the

Separating the Future: Socialism, Valuation, and Conflict

While social movement scholars have long recognized the importance of collective memory and shared pasts in the construction of collective identities, less attention has focused on the role of imagined futures. Based on a long-term ethnographic study of radical left-libertarian groups in Sweden, this paper explores the role of utopia in structuring, influencing, and evaluating actions and practice

Emotion Regulation and Self-Harm Among Forensic Psychiatric Patients

Emotion regulation has been specifically linked to both non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and attempted suicide. It is also known that self-harm is disproportionally higher (30–68.4%) in forensic samples than in the general population, yet knowledge about the association between emotion regulation and self-harm in forensic settings is scarce. The purpose of this study was to describe emotion regulat

Assessing and grading music in Swedish compulsory schools

In 2011, a new curriculum was implemented in the Swedish comprehensive school, Läroplan för grundskolan samt för förskoleklassen och fritidshemmet, Lgr 11, which meant new syllabi and a new grading system. Students from year 6-9 were to be graded on a scale ranging from A-F (Skolverket, 2020a). The qualifying points each grade signify are then used when applying to upper secondary school and thus

Synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles using Jasminum nervosum leaf extract and its larvicidal activity against filarial and arboviral vector Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae)

Silver and gold nanoparticles of Jasminum nervosum L. had unique optical properties such as broad absorbance band in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Characterization of the nanoparticles using UV spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the particles were silver (AgNPs) and gold (AuNPs) ra

Towards understanding and improving escape probabilities in PPM

The choice of expressions for the coding probabilities in general, and the escape probability in particular, is of great importance in the family of PPM algorithms. We present a parameterized version of the escape probability estimator which, together with a 'compactness' criterion, provides guidelines for the estimator design given a 'representative' set of files. This parameterization also makes

Looking for a Meaning of Dignity in the Bioethics Convention and the Cloning Protocol

This paper is focused on the analysis of two documents (the Council of Europe's Bioethics Convention and the Additional Cloning Protocol) inasmuch as they refer to the relationship between human dignity and human genetic engineering. After presenting the stipulations of the abovementioned documents, I will review various proposed meanings of human dignity and will try to identify which of these se

C-amidation of substituted β 3oligoamides yields novel supramolecular assembly motif

N-acylated substituted β 3 oligoamides are known to form unique supramolecular nanorods based on a 3-point hydrogen bond self-assembly motif. This motif is an intermolecular extension of the hydrogen bonding network that stabilizes the 14-helix secondary structure unique to β 3 oligoamides. Acetylation of the N-terminus of the molecule provides the necessary third hydrogen bond pair of the motif.

Clinical impact of intraprocedural stent thrombosis during percutaneous coronary intervention in patients treated with potent p2y12 inhibitors -A validate-swedeheart substudy

BACKGROUND: The clinical importance of intraprocedural stent thrombosis (IPST) during percutaneous coronary intervention in the contemporary era of potent oral P2Y12 inhibitors is not established. The aim of this study was to assess IPST and its association with clinical outcome in patients with myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with contemporary antithromboticmed
