Computerization of the Control Function in a Process Industry: A Case Study

Computerization of control room functions changes the work for the operators to a great extent. Their mental picture of the process, their possibilities to control the process for productivity and quality, the work content, the physical and the social working environment are examples of conditions which are changed one way or another. In order to be able to control the computerization process in a

Specifity and genetic control of B cell reactivity in experimental arthritis

Det ska inte bara kunnaCollagen-induced arthritis (CIA) and pristane-induced arthritis (PIA) are animal models for human rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and can be induced in susceptible mouse and rat strains. CIA is induced by immunization of type II collagen (CII), a cartilage specific protein together with Freund’s adjuvant. PIA is induced by intradermal injection of pristane (2,6,10,14-tetrametylpentadecane). In rats, in

Disturbance rejection in autotuners: an assessment method and a rule proposal

Disturbance rejection is a primary objective in many industrial control loops, thus a relevant goal for autotuning controllers. Nonetheless, autotuning has invariantly to cope with a reduced amount of process information. As a consequence, with the standard single-loop structure typically adopted in the addressed context, effective disturbance rejection calls for strong feedback, and therefore the

On coefficient memory co-optimization for channel estimation in a multi-standard environment (LTE and DVB-H)

This paper presents a novel memory optimization technique to exploit the analogy between correlation coefficients in MMSE-based channel estimators across multiple standards. The need for coefficient storage for robust MMSE channel estimators is expensive in terms of on-chip memory. Besides, the memory requirements grow linearly by integrating more standards onto one platform. Thus, it becomes inev

A Meta-Analysis of Bottom-Up Ex-Ante Energy Efficiency Policy Evaluation Studies

Energy efficiency ex-ante policy evaluation is commonly, but not exclusively, concerned with the simulation and modelling of policy instruments and resulting technological change. Using the residential sector as case study, the paper provides a meta-analysis of models and modelling exercises and scrutinise their relevance for the field of energy efficiency policy evaluation. The methodology of stu

Simple tuning rules for feedforward compensators

This paper describes new simple tuning rules for design of feedforward compensators. The problem of feedforward from load disturbances is analyzed, and it is shown that the feedback controller should be taken into account in the feedforward design process. Simple rules based on IAE minimization with restrictions on the process output overshoot and the high-frequency gain of the compensator are the

Pion and Kaon Dynamics at Higher Orders in Chiral Perturbation Theory

För det första, att kunna bestämma de erforderliga lågenergi-konstanter som krävs för att uppnå högre precision i förutsägelserna från denna teorHigher orders calculations of processes involving the pion and kaon pseudo-scalar mesons are presented in the framework of three flavour Chiral Perturbation Theory. The purpose is two-fold. First determining the low energy constants of ChPT that are necessary for higher accuracy predictions. Secondly, testing the validity of the chiral expansion in the strange quark mass, with emphasis on the valu

The World Trade Organization. Free Trade and Its Environmental Impacts

I will start out with an overview of common assumptions on the impact of free trade on the environment – assumptions which, very much like the first part of Lamy’s statement, are all-encompassing and deterministic. From there, I will narrow down the scope of examination to specific and immediate hardware-to-hardware impacts: akin to the second part of the above statement, the emphasis shall be put

Locomotives of Local Growth: The Short- and Long-Term Impact of Railroads in Sweden

This paper studies the impact of railroads on town-level growth in Sweden over 150 years. Our analysis builds on the fact that railroads historically were extended quasi-randomly across towns. Towns that gained access to a rail connection grew larger relative to other towns, with large negative spillovers on unconnected nearby towns. Over the 20th century, we find little adjustment to the initial
