What is Wrong with Extinction?
The aim of this investigation is to answer the question of why it is prima facie morally wrong to cause or contribute to the extinction of species. The first potential answer investigated in the book is that other species are instrumentally valuable for human beings. The results of this part of the investigation are that many species are instrumentally valuable for human beings but that not all sp

Lucian Blaga started to write his drama having a very strong philosophical and anthropological background, at least subconscious if not literary expressed. Thus his aesthetics within the ten plays is influenced by his primary concern to resuscitate a supposed ancestral mentality. The first aspect that strikes the reader is the omnipotence of the sacred, be it divine or demonic. Anyhow, each of his

Emerging tick-borne pathogens: on the ecology of multiple infections in ticks and reservoir hosts
I denna avhandling studerar jag två fästingburna bakMost animals will encounter several more or less severe infectious diseases during their lifetime, and simultaneous infections with more than one pathogen, or several different strains of the same pathogen, are common in natural populations. Ticks transmit a wide variety of different pathogens and can also be simultaneously infected with more than one pathogen. The possible interactions between di

Transient electromagnetic waves and inversion techniques
This paper reviews an efficient inversion technique for complex media utilizing transient electromagnetic scattering data. The approach to solve the scattering problems (direct and inverse) relies on a wave splitting technique and an invariant imbedding technique. The analysis is illustrated by a numerical example.
"Everydays" (A Progression Inspired by Jerome Kern)
Shortly before Christmas 2012, in a Beijing flea market and at a price, I was offered a cache of more than two thousand moth-eaten surveillance (“stake-out”) logs from the early 1950s emanating with the Bureau of Public Security in the city of Harbin, Manchuria. Unable to figure out what to do with them, I turned the offer down. Only later did it dawn on the historian in me that the logs just migh

What are the social positions of adults who were in long-term foster care as children, compared with the general population and with adults who grew up at home in families similar to foster children's birth families? How common is it to have been in foster care? Four approaches are used in this study: - A systematic review of around 50 studies on adult foster children. Conclusions are more pessim
