Compound Formation in Model Catalysts

In this thesis we have performed a systematic atomic scale characterization of model catalysts under pressures ranging from UHV to atmospheric ambient. By using a unique approach, linking UHV and high pressures studies by combining traditional electron based techniques with novel high pressure in situ probes and ab initio calculations, the surface structure of the different model catalysts could b

Love and Speciesism

The first part of the essay attempts to advance the idea that animals can, like humans, become subjects of genuine bonds of attachment. The second part of the essay examines how interventions to protect, care for, or save animals, interface with various forms of alterity - related to what socially and physiologically constitutes ‘being human’ and ‘being animal’.This essay provides a frame for a di

A dual input-channel software defined receiver platform for GSM WCDMA and Wi-Fi

In this paper a synchronized dual input-channel multi-mode Software Defined Radio receiver platform that we built originally is presented. The receiver platform compatible with the GSM, WCDMA, and Wi-Fi standards can detect and identify the surrounding base stations and access points. It features wide frequency range, high adaptive sampling rate and especially dual phase coherent receiving channel

Generation of synthesis gas for fuels and chemicals production

För att säkra framtida tillförsel av energi och kemikalier till samhället och för att uppnå ett mer klimaMany scientists believe that the oil production will peak in the near future, if the peak has not already occurred. Peak oil theories and uncertain future oil deliveries have stimulated interest in alternative sources of fuel and chemicals. This interest has been enhanced by concerns about energy security and about the climate change caused by emissions of carbon dioxide. The result has been incre

Symbol time offset estimation in coherent OFDM systems

This paper presents a symbol time offset estimator for coherent OFDM systems. This estimator exploits both the redundancy in the cyclic prefix and the pilot symbols used for channel estimation. The estimator is robust against frequency offsets and is suitable for use in dispersive channels. We base the estimator on the ML estimator for the AWGN channel. Simulations of an example system indicate a

T-matrix computations of light scattering by red blood cells

The electromagnetic far field, as well as near field, originating from light interaction with a red blood cell (RBC) volume equivalent spheroid, were analyzed utilizing T-matrix theory. This method is a powerful tool which enables the influence of cell shape on the angular distribution of scattered light to be studied. General observations were that the three-dimensional shape, as well as optical
