Using Information Criteria to Select Averages in CCE
In the interactive effects panel data literature information criteria are commonly used to consistently determine which of the estimated principal components factors to include. The present paper shows that the same approach can be applied to factors estimated by taking the cross-sectional averages of the observables, as prescribed by the popular common correlated effects (CCE) approach. This shou
Did introduction of pneumococcal vaccines in the Netherlands decrease the need for respiratory antibiotics in children? Analysis of 2002 to 2013 data
To estimate the effect of the introduction of the 7- and 10-valentpneumococcal vaccines in 2006 and 2011, respectively in the Netherlands, we assessed respiratory antibiotic use in one to nine year-old children between 2002 and 2013. Seasonal autoregressive integrated moving-average models were applied to estimate the percentage reduction in respiratory antibiotic use. When compared with the pre-v
An immune score reflecting pro- and anti-tumoural balance of tumour microenvironment has major prognostic impact and predicts immunotherapy response in solid cancers
Background: Cancer immunity is based on the interaction of a multitude of cells in the spatial context of the tumour tissue. Clinically relevant immune signatures are therefore anticipated to fundamentally improve the accuracy in predicting disease progression. Methods: Through a multiplex in situ analysis we evaluated 15 immune cell classes in 1481 tumour samples. Single-cell and bulk RNAseq data
Betahistine prevents development of endolymphatic hydrops in a mouse model of insulin resistance and diabetes
BACKGROUND: Diabetes is associated with inner ear dysfunction. Furthermore, C57BL/6J mice fed high fat diet (HFD), a model for insulin resistance and diabetes, develop endolymphatic hydrops (EH).AIM: Evaluate if betahistine, spironolactone (aldosterone antagonist) and empagliflozin (sodium -glucose cotransporter2 inhibitor) can prevent EH induced by HFD and explore potential mechanisms.METHODS: C5
Internal viewpoints in a governmental organization on two capacity development initiatives
Capacity development in the field of disaster risk reduction is suggested by the Sendai Framework to be the primary tool for obtaining the goals of globally reduced disaster risk. However, ownership in capacity development initiative is often skewed towards the external organization. This thesis aims to understand the perceived success factors and challenges for the personnel in a governmental org
The possibilities of healthcare logistics, a stagnated market with great potential Author: Marcus Oknelid Supervisors: Bertil Nilsson, division of industrial management, The faculty of engineering at Lund University. K2-99 revisited : A non-inflated warm Jupiter, and a temperate giant planet on a 522-d orbit around a subgiant
We report new photometric and spectroscopic observations of the K2-99 planetary system. Asteroseismic analysis of the short-cadence light curve from K2's Campaign 17 allows us to refine the stellar properties. We find K2-99 to be significantly smaller than previously thought, with R = 2.55 ± 0.02 R. The new light curve also contains four transits of K2-99 b, which we use to improve our knowledge o

The K2-OjOS Project : New and revisited planets and candidates in K2 campaigns 5, 16, & 18
We present the first results of K2-OjOS, a collaborative project between professional and amateur astronomers primarily aimed to detect, characterize, and validate new extrasolar planets. For this work, 10 amateur astronomers looked for planetary signals by visually inspecting the 20 427 light curves of K2 campaign 18 (C18). They found 42 planet candidates, of which 18 are new detections and 24 ha
Men viktigast av allt är motivation att med Barriers and solutions to reducing the personal carbon footprint 60-70% of the global CO2-emissions are directly related to our lifestyle and changing our behaviour has a huge mitigation potential. However, many find it difficult to change their lifestyle and the factors facilitating personal behavioural change are poorly understood. This study investigates barriers and solutions to behavioural c
Receptor-specific mechanisms regulate phosphorylation of AKT at ser473 : Role of RICTOR in β1 integrin-mediated cell survival
A tight control over AKT/PKB activation is essential for cells, and they realise this in part by regulating the phosphorylation of Ser473 in the "hydrophobic motif" of the AKT carboxy-terminal region. The RICTOR-mTOR complex (TORC2) is a major kinase for AKT Ser473 phosphorylation after stimulation by several growth factors, in a reaction proposed to require p21-activated kinase (PAK) as a scaffol

Transcription Factor-Forced Astrocytic Differentiation Impairs Human Glioblastoma Growth In Vitro and In Vivo
Direct cellular reprogramming has recently gained attention of cancer researchers for the possibility to convert undifferentiated cancer cells into more differentiated, postmitotic cell types. While a few studies have attempted reprogramming of glioblastoma (GBM) cells toward a neuronal fate, this approach has not yet been used to induce differentiation into other lineages and in vivo data on redu

Effect of psychotropics on the risk of COVID-19 in middle-aged and older adults
Older adults have been markedly impacted by the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, and many reports have cited concerns regarding potential psychiatric sequelae of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), but the actual effects of psychotropics on the COVID-19 are unclear. In this study, multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate associations between the prescription of psychotropics an
ZEAL : protein structure alignment based on shape similarity
Motivation: Most protein-structure superimposition tools consider only Cartesian coordinates. Yet, much of biology happens on the surface of proteins, which is why proteins with shared ancestry and similar function often have comparable surface shapes. Superposition of proteins based on surface shape can enable comparison of highly divergent proteins, identify convergent evolution and enable detai
Google, data voids, and the dynamics of the politics of exclusion
This study deploys a critical approach to big data analytics to gauge the tentative contours of data voids in Google searches that reflect extreme-right dynamics of exclusion in the aftermath of the 2015 humanitarian crisis in Europe. The study adds complexity to the analysis of data voids, expanding the framework of investigation outside the USA context by concentrating on Germany and Sweden. Bui
