Geography in sustainability research – Challenges and possible contributions

Twenty years have passed since the Brundtland report launched the goal of “sustainable development” (SD). During these decades SD has become widely accepted and it is today established as a fundamental goal in most policy contexts at the international level as well in many countries, regions and cities. A growing research community focussing on various aspects of sustainable development has develo

High Performance Manufacturing of Advanced Thin Plates ─ Forming of Titanium and Stainless Steel Materials

The increasing demands placed on the quality and performance of products that are manufactured places increasing demands on the manufacturing processes involved. The aim of the dissertation has been to study how a particular forming process used in the production of thin sheet-metal parts of advanced character

Industrialization and inequality revisited: Mortality differentials and vulnerability to economic stress in Stockholm, 1878-1926.

This work combines economic and demographic data to examine inequality of living standards in Stockholm at the turn of the twentieth century. Using a longitudinal population register with occupational information, we utilize event-history models to show that despite absolute decreases in mortality, relative differences between socioeconomic groups remained virtually constant. The results also show

Laughing as participation: A textual analysis of the studio audience of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

This small scale study or pilot case looks into how studio audiences participate; as well as how we can characterize the interaction between host and studio audience in political comedy. The case used is "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (US), as it is widely popular but also has a following in Europe and Sweden. According to Corner et al (2013), political comedy includes satire, mocking, spoofing

Recoil Polarization for Delta Excitation in Pion Electroproduction

We measured angular distributions of recoil-polarization response functions for neutral pion electroproduction for W=1.23 GeV at Q2=1.0 (GeV/c)2, obtaining 14 separated response functions plus 2 Rosenbluth combinations; of these, 12 have been observed for the first time. Dynamical models do not describe quantities governed by imaginary parts of interference products well, indicating the need for a
